Sunflower Retreat

A humble, 2-acre vegetarian family micro farm.  Home to our family of five, 2 cats, 2 rabbits and sixteen chickens. Beautiful, established flower gardens, fruit trees and veggies.   This is also home to Sunflower Yoga & Mindfulness where yoga and meditation are taught.  The cabin is nestled in the 1 acre of woods behind our home,  protected by large old pines and surrounding acres of forest. Home to many songbirds, woodpeckers, raven, deer, porcupine and the occasional black bear.  A true retreat.Small, rustic cabin with electricity in the woods behind our home in the hilltowns of Western Massachusetts. You are just 300 feet from the house, but while in the woods you will have complete privacy. The woods are filled with songbirds and there is a small platform for meditation. There is no wifi in the cabin, so enjoy the ability to disconnect from it all while connecting within. The hilltown region is rich with rivers and lakes for swimming, boating and fishing and forests for hiking. Black Rabbit Farm



Black Rabbit Farm is not only a beautiful oasis, but a fully operational 10 acre farm. 

Situated at the foot of the Berkshires, the farm is home to a small orchard, vineyard, and garden space. 

We take pride in creating a sustainable environment for all our production, based on what the land has to offer. Small greenhouse spaces create year-round production. Rocky hillside will develop a significant "terroir" for our grapes. Even adopted cats prowl the fields to reduce small animal populations.

The views are to die for and the easy access to Rte 91 and the Mass Pike will make your trip an easy one for all involved.

We decided to car camp, and enjoyed walking up in total privacy surrounded by gorgeous scenery. 

The sites are a short hike in, if your car doesn't have clearance to get to them, the host offered to drive our gear back in their pickup truck. 

There isn't a bad view on the entire property. 

From the sites, you can get gorgeous views of the entire property. 

There are tons of lawn games to play near the ale house. 

Signs at the entrance make the farm very easy to find from the road. 

There are a few different porta-potties around the property that are clearly marked.

Rosy Goat Farm

Welcome to Rosy Goat Farm!!

We are the quintessential family farm/homestead, our farmhouse was built in the 1840’s

Bill and I bought this 13-acre property in 2012, It was overgrown with wild roses. We have worked with a limited budget, and used animals to clear the land. The goats love the wild roses. The pigs dig the roses up. Chickens rake it clean. Win win!

Very interesting place here- lots to tell you, there’s quite a list of things to do and see around here! Did you know that Gilbertville has a covered bridge? It is one of the last covered bridges still in use in Massachusetts!

First- a touch of Hardwick History:

Rev. Timothy Ruggles bought this land from the Native Americans for his family to live on, and to work the land. 

His son, Brigadeer General Timothy Ruggles became unpopular after he introduced the Stamp Act, and was banished to Nova Scotia. 

His daughter Bathsheba became the last woman executed in the United States for the murder of her husband Joshua Spooner. (There’s a book about it called Murdered by his wife, by Deborah Navas.)

For breakfasts and lunch there is The Whistle Stop diner, it was a former Boston & Albany Railroad station. Speaking of railroads, did you know that The Mass Central Rail Trail runs through Gilbertville! 
Rose 32, is a well known bakery that serves tea, coffee and sandwiches. 

There’s Hardwick house of Pizza- for tasty pizza and subs, which also serves beer.  

Feeling fancy? Try Hardwick Crossing Country Club (features a 9 hole golf course), it has a restaurant with a full-service bar, gorgeous scenery! Its a 3 minute drive from here

Mimi’s for your morning coffee and lunch, yum! And it overlooks our beautiful Common!

Also check out Stone Cow Brewery in Barre -has a kids play area while you wait for your meal!

Ware has Mexicali Grill, Theresa’s Restaurant for Italian foods, Bellies Barnyard for traditional American cuisine, and, Pig Park BBQ for comfort food! 

Farmer Mat in North Brookfield has take out meals- there are picnic tables available, beautiful views.

Things to do:
You can kayak, and fish, at Swift River in Belchertown.

Hardwick is the home of the oldest agricultural fair in the US, held every year in August, and, every Sunday there’s a small farmers market on the common.

Hardwick also has a winery- Hardwick Vineyard and Winery, they have all kinds of events, (find them on facebook) and, check out Lost Towns brewery- the name is a throwback to the 4 towns that were submerged to create the Quabbin Reservoir!

Medicine River Pow Wow is in August here in Gilbertville, on River Run Rd.

The East Quabbin Land Trust has birdwatching and fabulous views, and the  Mass Central Rail Trail entrance is located here. Bike it or hike it!  

Quabbin Reservoir is close by for boating and fishing.

There are free concerts in Grenville Park in Ware, (check for dates).

Ware also has Janine’s Frostee ice cream and fast foods- and live music on weekend nights!

Also check out these on line: Ragged Hill orchard and Rock House Reservation in West Brookfield, and Carter and Stevens farm in Barre. The Leicester, and Mendon movie drive-in’s.

Old Sturbridge village is 30 minutes away.

Lake Lashaway has a swimming area in East Brookfield, right off of Rte 9. It’s about 20 minutes from here.

Lake Siog in Holland has a lovely picnic area and beach for swimming. (30 mins South from here)

Wilder Hill Gardens

Wilder Hill Gardens is a working farm nursery.
We grow nursery stock using sustainable methods.
On the land, you might see a robust flock of laying hens, pigs in a portable pen cultivating new ground, plantings of medicinal herbs, and gorgeous
 sun and shade display gardens. A half acre of pick-your-own pears, currants, gooseberries and blueberries yields organic fruit from mid-July through September.

With pristine water from our well and forests all around, you will camp amid our gardens and orchards. Visit the chickens and pick fresh, organic fruit in season. Walk down the country road to the Bear River for a dip or explore nearby Shelburne Falls. 
We have a newly built outhouse. Enjoy a rustic “bucket bath’ or outdoor  shower while looking over the wooded hillsides.

Wilder Hill Gardens is very peaceful, guaranteed you will be greeted by bird song every morning and the evening sky is bright with stars. We are in a lovely rural neighborhood yet centrally located to any number of natural wonders and cultural activities.

There is a limit of two tents
on each site and four people.

Each site has a separate fire pit,
water source, and private camping area. Sorry, but we are not accepting pets at this time.

There are two farm dogs, Viola and Jackson at Wilder Hill Gardens. They are friendly, well trained and mostly work along side me. But they do have free range of the farm and if anyone in your party has a fear or dislike  of dogs this is probably not the best choice for you.

We have PYO fresh fruit, vegetables, cut flowers, eggs, and all of our nursery stock for sale in season.  There is a newly built garden shop and art gallery with a 12 Ft. Mosaic made of thousands of handmade porcelain pieces.
We accept cash or checks or Venmo
but not credit cards. Check out our Extras!

Medicinal Roses hug our property. Here, harvesting Rosa rugosa for heart-medicine. A delectable, awakening fragrance. This variety is apparently ever-bearing, Spring to Fall. Enjoy some yourself! 

Healers' Headquarters

Here, we are carrying out a vision for Global Restoration. This site came through in dreams and prayers. The place to carry out our passions and visions. A place to let our talents rip. Two businesses live here. Mangold Leather, and the World-Repair Nursery.  We have been living here since May 2018. Life can be beautiful and easy. Here, we champion Edible Ecological Restoration. Every year the Native Fruit/Nut Nursery grows, and we spread more important plants throughout the northeast. It's time to restore the Earth.

Come stay in the forests of Shelburne, MA. Our site offers private camping in the woods, and easy-access to meadow, view of a large pond and ever-expanding permaculture gardens. The 'Healers' Headuarters' is our haven, where we grow native Fruit, Nut and Medicine plants, that we sell and use for free public plantings in towns and cities. This is the headquarters where plants are grown for our non-profit planting campaign. Likewise, we run an artisan leather shop, using a roadside barn on site that has been converted into a studio-gallery. Check out our grass-fed bison leather bags, belts, armor and sculptures.

For those who want more, consider stopping in for a leather-crafting class, plant workshop, or, invite house-chef to bring you out an incredible raw smoothie or treat. 

We are perfectly positioned on Mohawk Trail, a premier destination for art, hiking, and scenic drives. This spot is a straight shot to the famed 'bridge of flowers'. We're 10 min from charming Shelburne Falls. We're en route to MASS MOCA, skiing in the winter, and leaf-peeping in fall. 

You might be surprised pulling into our little kingdom, to discover that we are so close to a MAJOR ROAD. 

PLEASE NOTE::: We are ON Mohawk Trail. This high-traffic site allows our work to reach the most people! HOWEVER! If you are sensitive to ROAD PRESENCE, VEHICLE NOISES, PROXIMITY TO TRAFFIC, you might not like this site!!!!

That said,  as soon as one steps to the back behind the property, it is an oasis. The cars are out of sight (but not sound), and it's nothing but grass, plants, trees, birds, pollinators and life!  

We do not recommend having any animals off-leash, as he 50mph traffic on RT. 2 is very dangerous for animals.

Always do tick checks, and to avoid poison ivy, STAY WITHIN RAILS AND CLEARINGS. We regularly maintain all paths and campsites to be free of poison ivy, but if you wander into unmaintained parts of the forest, you might contact poison ivy. 

Like any camping in the northeast, bring bug spray too!

For travelers, this happens to be a VERY accessible location.
