Forty five years ago, our family started assembling 400 acres of woods and fields on the banks of the beautiful Androscoggin River. We enjoy actively managing the property for wildlife habitat and tree growth. The diverse landscape includes over 1/2 a mile of river frontage, a 10 acre wildlife pond, rolling hills in the meadows and steep forested terrain with more than 10 miles of multi-use trails running throughout. Tucked among spruce, fir, and birch on Sunshine Island in Deer Isle–Stonington, Four Acre Woods began more than 60 years ago as a small, family-run campground known as Sunshine Campground. Travelers from across the world visited this quiet island forest, drawn to its raw beauty and the peaceful energy that generations before us had loved and cared for.
The campground eventually closed in the 1990s and sat untouched for over 15 years—its trails, clearings, and old campsites slowly reclaimed by the woods. The land waited, quietly, for someone to bring it back to life.
In the years that followed, Caleb, a longtime local operator on the island, took interest in the property. Recognizing both its history and its potential to offer people a deeper experience of Deer Isle’s natural beauty, he began the process of carefully restoring and reopening the land.
Working season by season, Caleb rebuilt the sites, added new infrastructure, re-established utilities, and designed a campground that honors the land’s roots while offering a comfortable, modern, and nature-forward experience for today’s guests.
In July 2020, the property reopened under a new name: Four Acre Woods.
Today, it blends the spirit of the original Sunshine Campground with thoughtful stewardship, simple comforts, and a deep respect for the forest that surrounds it. Visitors once again gather under the birches and spruces—sharing campfires, slow mornings, quiet nights, and the timeless island calm that makes this land so special.

Our camp is located on a quaint pristine, offshore Maine island. We are an easy 1 mile walk from the ferry landing once you arrive.
We have a shared use golf cart for our guests to get to and from camp!
Great Cranberry Island is a beautiful peaceful place where the pace of life slows, nature abounds and the stars are bright.
There is a small well stocked general store,, a museum, cafe and miles of pristine trails and rocky beaches to explore. Bicycles can be brought on the passenger ferries and are a great way to get around and further explore the island.
Our camp is on the site of our former organic farm called Cabin Creek Farm overlooking the ocean (a tidal estuary called the pool), where we grew flowers, herbs and veggies.
You can even kayak directly to us at high tide.
The sites are a combo of a mixed manicured deciduous and conifer forest and open spaces with ocean views.

Come relax on this private 5 acre waterfront escape. A long driveway will open up into a cleared lot. The end of the driveway is a large crushed gravel parking pad which should easily accommodate any RV or trailer (make sure you back in, there's no room to turn around). The pad is mostly flat, but minor leveling on RV's is probably still needed. Site overlooks Flanders Bay which feeds into Mount Desert Narrows. Watch the family of 5 eagles fly back and forth across the cove and bring binoculars to watch them as they perch in nearby trees. The cove is filled with a variety of seabirds and the occasional harbor seal. You will have complete quiet as you listen to the sounds of forest and coastal life.Property is located 11 miles from Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia National park and a quick 35 miles from Bar Harbor. From May through mid November, site includes access to a HOT outdoor shower, well water, a working sink with hot water.
Water is turned off after November 15th until late spring, weather dependent.

No electricity in the Timber Tent, but there are power outlets on the electric pole at the beginning of the driveway. Feel free to bring your tent, camper or stay in the cabin. This site is 10 miles from Acadia National Park (Schoodic side) where there are mountain bike and hiking trails. Want to swim and kayak in freshwater? Good access road for your RV. The amazing views include Owl's Head lighthouse and Matinicus island in the very far distance, sunrise over Ragged Mountain and the Camden hills. To the north the Dixmont, and Bangor areas are visible. Watch the sunset to the west over Sennebec pond and Appleton ridge. To the southwest Mt. Washington may be just visible on a clear day. 75 acres of open fields and woodlands to explore at your leisure.
Among the hidden gems you might find are the original homestead foundation, a vernal brook, a distant field that is totally secluded and an oak tree with a heart! Deer, wild Turkeys, Hawks, Owls and Bald Eagles are frequent visitors. You may even stumble upon wild raspberries and blackberries, if they're in season.
The small town of Union also hosts the Maine Wild Blueberry Festival. The Lobster Festival is nearby in Rockland every August.
No other campers are visible from your site - so you get breathtaking beauty all for yourself - and those with you!
Note: Part of the land is a working Wild Blueberry farm and as such, on rare occasions, the quiet is interrupted to care for the crop. Should that take place we will credit you with a free day's stay.
Note: No Trespassing signs are posted for the farm operation - these Do Not apply to Hipcampers! Please drive past them through the open gate to the site.

Rustic tent site with fire pit, firewood, picnic table, and outhouse. It is a very secluded and quiet site surrounded by birches, spruce, a young maple stand, and some cute fledgling pines.
There's open space to the south with sight-lines toward Frenchmans and Flanders Bay. To the north, east, and west, there's about 70 acres of tree-growth with some old logging trails to casually bushwhack if you feel it. There's a glacial erractic (big big boulder) not terribly far from the site. Please note that it is possible to get lost if you go deep (though unlikely).
There is proper hiking throughout the area, not least of which is Acadia National Park and Lamoine State Park. But there are hikes even closer. Long Ledges is just a couple miles up the road (off Punkinville, right by the high school). And these trails are ambitious, even connect up all the way to Schoodic Mountain, which in addition to being a great hike on its own, is surrounded by Donnell Pond and Tunk Lake. Further trails throughout and amongst the State Preserve are great. Swim, fish (get a license before doing so), boat (plenty of public landings around to put in a kayak), hangout. Biking is probably best on the carriage roads of Acadia, which are island-side on MDI, or over at Schoodic in Winter Harbor (make a loop starting at Frazier Point). Sullivan has a stretch of the sunrise trail, which is an ATV trail, and which is billed as bike friendly but it's not super great for tires narrower than mountain bikes.
Go eat seafood at Tracy's, less than a mile up the road. Eat some ice cream at Shanahan's Sweet Retreat. Dunbar's Store has a good beer selection, carries an assortment of food stuffs including some vegan options-variety is the spice of life. Young's Market has breakfast Sammy's, coffee, pizza, cigs, fuel.
Check out our 70 acres in tree-growth with some old logging trails. Casually bushwhack on if you feel it. There's a glacial erratic not terribly far from the site. Please note that it is possible to get lost, though unlikely!
Please be courteous and respectful of the land and neighbors. Please be mindful that the Maine region is in moderate drought. Pick up after yourselves. Listen for the wildlife, look before speaking. Enjoy!

The cabin was built for me to steal away from the house and enjoy the wildlife, quiet, stars and silence. It is too peaceful to keep to myself so come and enjoy all that Norway Maine and the surrounding area has to offer!

Welcome to Lulu's. Where you can get a little crazy under the moon or you can take in the peace and serenity of the stillness in the woods. Depends on what you are looking for! No neighbors to infringe on your ideal get away. The large cabin has a welcoming front porch to enjoy the amazing sunrises over Streaked Mtn. 100 acres of privacy to hike, watch wildlife and just relax. Cabin has outside facilities. Off the grid-no electric or running water. Cell service is adequate. 1 gallon of fresh well water provided for drinking and 10 gallons for washing/cooking.
Bring your own linens for a queen size bed, twin bunk beds and a full pull out couch. 2 pillows are supplied with a pillow protective cover and pillow case which are washed after each guest. Pots, pans and utensils, are onsite which are washed between campers; trash bags, compost bags, paper towels, dish soap, dish towels and a 2 burner propane stove(green canisters needed) and an older propane table top grill are provided. Camp fire grill on site if you prefer cooking over open flame. There are some battery operated light switches and solar lights in the camp and outhouse. Downtown Norway has quaint shops to browse! Norway Lake has a public beach and boat dock. Many hiking trails nearby-Noyes Mtn, Patch Mnt, Singpole and Streaked Mtn to name a few. Casino, race track and breweries for night life. Oxford Hills has much to offer.

The campground eventually closed in the 1990s and sat untouched for over 15 years—its trails, clearings, and old campsites slowly reclaimed by the woods. The land waited, quietly, for someone to bring it back to life.
In the years that followed, Caleb, a longtime local operator on the island, took interest in the property. Recognizing both its history and its potential to offer people a deeper experience of Deer Isle’s natural beauty, he began the process of carefully restoring and reopening the land.
Working season by season, Caleb rebuilt the sites, added new infrastructure, re-established utilities, and designed a campground that honors the land’s roots while offering a comfortable, modern, and nature-forward experience for today’s guests.
In July 2020, the property reopened under a new name: Four Acre Woods.
Today, it blends the spirit of the original Sunshine Campground with thoughtful stewardship, simple comforts, and a deep respect for the forest that surrounds it. Our camp is located on a quaint pristine, offshore Maine island. We are an easy 1 mile walk from the ferry landing once you arrive.

Great Cranberry Island is a beautiful peaceful place where the pace of life slows, nature abounds and the stars are bright.
There is a small well stocked general store,, a museum, cafe and miles of pristine trails and rocky beaches to explore. Bicycles can be brought on the passenger ferries and are a great way to get around and further explore the island.
Our camp is on the site of our former organic farm called Cabin Creek Farm overlooking the ocean (a tidal estuary called the pool), where we grew flowers, herbs and veggies.
You can even kayak directly to us at high tide.
The sites are a combo of a mixed manicured deciduous and conifer forest and open spaces with ocean views.

Come relax on this private 5 acre waterfront escape. A long driveway will open up into a cleared lot. The end of the driveway is a large crushed gravel parking pad which should easily accommodate any RV or trailer (make sure you back in, there's no room to turn around). The pad is mostly flat, but minor leveling on RV's is probably still needed. Site overlooks Flanders Bay which feeds into Mount Desert Narrows. Watch the family of 5 eagles fly back and forth across the cove and bring binoculars to watch them as they perch in nearby trees. The cove is filled with a variety of seabirds and the occasional harbor seal. You will have complete quiet as you listen to the sounds of forest and coastal life.Property is located 11 miles from Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia National park and a quick 35 miles from Bar Harbor. From May through mid November, site includes access to a HOT outdoor shower, well water, a working sink with hot water.

Good access road for your RV. The amazing views include Owl's Head lighthouse and Matinicus island in the very far distance, sunrise over Ragged Mountain and the Camden hills. To the north the Dixmont, and Bangor areas are visible. Watch the sunset to the west over Sennebec pond and Appleton ridge. To the southwest Mt. Washington may be just visible on a clear day. 75 acres of open fields and woodlands to explore at your leisure.
Among the hidden gems you might find are the original homestead foundation, a vernal brook, a distant field that is totally secluded and an oak tree with a heart! Deer, wild Turkeys, Hawks, Owls and Bald Eagles are frequent visitors. You may even stumble upon wild raspberries and blackberries, if they're in season.
The small town of Union also hosts the Maine Wild Blueberry Festival. The Lobster Festival is nearby in Rockland every August.
No other campers are visible from your site - so you get breathtaking beauty all for yourself - and those with you!
Note: Part of the land is a working Wild Blueberry farm and as such, on rare occasions, the quiet is interrupted to care for the crop. Should that take place we will credit you with a free day's stay.

Rustic tent site with fire pit, firewood, picnic table, and outhouse. It is a very secluded and quiet site surrounded by birches, spruce, a young maple stand, and some cute fledgling pines.
There's open space to the south with sight-lines toward Frenchmans and Flanders Bay. To the north, east, and west, there's about 70 acres of tree-growth with some old logging trails to casually bushwhack if you feel it. There's a glacial erractic (big big boulder) not terribly far from the site. Please note that it is possible to get lost if you go deep (though unlikely).
There is proper hiking throughout the area, not least of which is Acadia National Park and Lamoine State Park. But there are hikes even closer. Long Ledges is just a couple miles up the road (off Punkinville, right by the high school). And these trails are ambitious, even connect up all the way to Schoodic Mountain, which in addition to being a great hike on its own, is surrounded by Donnell Pond and Tunk Lake. Further trails throughout and amongst the State Preserve are great. Swim, fish (get a license before doing so), boat (plenty of public landings around to put in a kayak), hangout. Biking is probably best on the carriage roads of Acadia, which are island-side on MDI, or over at Schoodic in Winter Harbor (make a loop starting at Frazier Point). Sullivan has a stretch of the sunrise trail, which is an ATV trail, and which is billed as bike friendly but it's not super great for tires narrower than mountain bikes.
Go eat seafood at Tracy's, less than a mile up the road. Eat some ice cream at Shanahan's Sweet Retreat. Dunbar's Store has a good beer selection, carries an assortment of food stuffs including some vegan options-variety is the spice of life. Young's Market has breakfast Sammy's, coffee, pizza, cigs, fuel.
Check out our 70 acres in tree-growth with some old logging trails. Casually bushwhack on if you feel it. There's a glacial erratic not terribly far from the site. Please note that it is possible to get lost, though unlikely!
Please be courteous and respectful of the land and neighbors. Please be mindful that the Maine region is in moderate drought. Pick up after yourselves. Listen for the wildlife, look before speaking. Enjoy!

The 100 acre wood located in the hills of Oxford County is a peaceful get away from the hussle and bussle of todays world. Recently selectively logged we discovered views of local mountains and decided to take advantage of the clearings. The cabin was built for me to steal away from the house and enjoy the wildlife, quiet, stars and silence. It is too peaceful to keep to myself so come and enjoy all that Norway Maine and the surrounding area has to offer!

Welcome to Lulu's. Where you can get a little crazy under the moon or you can take in the peace and serenity of the stillness in the woods. Depends on what you are looking for! No neighbors to infringe on your ideal get away. The large cabin has a welcoming front porch to enjoy the amazing sunrises over Streaked Mtn. 100 acres of privacy to hike, watch wildlife and just relax. Cabin has outside facilities. Off the grid-no electric or running water. Cell service is adequate. 1 gallon of fresh well water provided for drinking and 10 gallons for washing/cooking.
Bring your own linens for a queen size bed, twin bunk beds and a full pull out couch. 2 pillows are supplied with a pillow protective cover and pillow case which are washed after each guest. Pots, pans and utensils, are onsite which are washed between campers; trash bags, compost bags, paper towels, dish soap, dish towels and a 2 burner propane stove(green canisters needed) and an older propane table top grill are provided. Camp fire grill on site if you prefer cooking over open flame. There are some battery operated light switches and solar lights in the camp and outhouse. Please remember you will be required to remove trash and outhouse composting bag. Thanks and hope to see you at Lulu's 100 acre wood!
Downtown Norway has quaint shops to browse! Norway Lake has a public beach and boat dock. Many hiking trails nearby-Noyes Mtn, Patch Mnt, Singpole and Streaked Mtn to name a few. ATV trails (also can be used for off-road biking)onsite connect with other towns for many miles and hours of riding. Plenty of lakes/rivers for kayaking. Casino, race track and breweries for night life. Oxford Hills has much to offer.

Plenty to do enjoy. Eagle soaring overhead (sometimes ) . look for colorful rocks on property. Keep in mind on any reviews . This 51 acres project some of it is being reclaimed back to nature . So gravel pit is being mined for materials to maintain whole gravel section of Egypt lane (private road.) It’s 2 miles of gravel road . Then it will be reclaimed also . The pit is not to be explored . Also is not part of the campsites that are booked . There is plenty of flat land to stay safe In the meanwhile . there are sites that are semi complete wooded partly . Until they grow back . Your booking $ helps fund all of these projects that I do . Plenty of acres to explore quiet and peaceful. . Egypt stream flows around half the property .Gated for your security. A lot of nature . Wild life present. please leash your pets there’s porcupines around ! . Peaceful and Quiet! Close to a few parks and Acadia national park. Lemoine state park is very close . Bar harbor also . Campfires are ok no bonfires tho. NOTE: Please do 15 MPH on gravel road occasionally farm animals and baby chickens sometime wander up on road . NOTE: EGYPT LANE IS THE ONLY ACCESS ROAD ! NO MATTER IF GPS MAP REDIRECTS YOU ! Enjoy the bank of the St. John River from this quiet, serene location. This property has our Half Moon Cabin rental and 3 Full RV hook up (water sewer electric) and 2 Partial RV hook up (water and electric). We have an outdoor hot shower house and composting outhouse on site. The path to the water allows you to launch a canoe / kayak or fish from the bank of the river for a muskie or small mouth bass. A hammock chair overlooking the river is a great place to enjoy the peace that this view of river offers. You are only a few miles from 3 North Maine Woods gate entrances. You can easily explore the hiking in the Deboullie Public Lands located about 15 miles from this property. This property has direct access to ATV and snowmobile trails that the area has to offer.

We are a Hobby farm located on a peaceful and remote 15 acres of fields and 20 acres of woods. We raise Jacob sheep and have 5 gentle Halfinger ponies as well as Chickens, dogs and cats. There are walking and horseback riding trails through the woods. Guests here can learn about raising and caring for sheep and horses. They can have horsemanship or horseback riding lessons from a CHA Certified riding instructor on site.
We also offer inexpensive outdoor weddings at our beautiful gazebo in the woods.

We enjoyed this camping place very much. Michael welcomed us and showed us the way to the spot. He is still working the land but our spot was great. Nice fire pit, picknick table and a great view. The sunset was spectacular and stargazing as well.

We enjoyed the beach, and I would highly consider coming back at a warmer time. The campsite we stayed at wasn’t as big as it looked in photos, so there was some maneuvering near the old house to fit our two tiny trailers.
It was an hour to the main Acadia entrance, but so beautiful out there. If camping in tick season, bring spray and check your dogs. We were covered.
Beach was 100/10.

We had the best time at this site. The views were absolutely incredible. We had better sunset views from the campsite than we even would in Acadia. Having the water, electric plug, and bathroom on site was so helpful, too. We ended up tent camping, but the little house was such an added perk, too for storage, spending time together, etc. I can’t recommend this spot enough!!

This is one of those rare finds that you don’t want to leave. Our campsite was on a grassy knoll overlooking the river/lake and surrounded by acres of lawn. We could watch the water from our bed. Just beautiful. My husband enjoyed a chat with the owner and got some of the history of the place. Our dog was in doggy heaven.

My husband and I were visiting Acadia and spent the night at the rabbit run spot. There was firewood and water set out for us and we were given clear instructions on how to get there. Best of all: a bathroom with a toilet and running water!! You’ll be greeted in the morning by chickens, ducks, and their dog Sadie if you’re lucky. If we’re ever back in the area we’ll 100% be staying here again. Thank you Mike and Cheryl!

We absolutely loved our stay at Four Acre Woods Campground. If anything we wish we had stayed longer! The campsite was out on a very quiet island, truly not too far from our outings. We stayed on the primitive secluded site which was absolutely perfect. It was very spacious, with tons of privacy, located steps away from the community cabin. We wish we had more time to enjoy the community cabin as it was warm, filled with books, games, cookware, utensils, lanterns, ice, tea, coffee, local guides and cozy sofas. Our campsite additionally had a private walk way to the bathrooms, which we were pleasantly surprised by for a campsite! The shower was equipped with shampoo, conditioner and body wash if needed, and the bathroom was as clean as you could possibly expect a campsite bathroom to be! Firewood was easy to purchase and bring over to our campsite which we appreciated. The hosts were very kind and helpful and we truly hope to be back again next year to hopefully spend a much longer stay at the four acre woods and get a chance to experience the onsite sauna :) thanks so much for having us! Would 110% recommend. (Ps. Just beware of deer and wildlife on the drive in, it is deer isle after all ;) )

Aroostook & the Highlands
Maine’s mountainous north is the stuff that hiker’s bucket lists are made of. The sprawling wilderness of Baxter State Park is the starting point of the epic Appalachian Trail and home to Maine’s highest peak—the 5,267-foot Mount Katahdin.
