Waimanalo Farmstay

5 sites · Lodging, RVs5 acres · Kailua, HI
This is a breathtaking space that our family has poured many decades and multiple generations into. We are surrounded by jungle, with a freshwater stream running through the entire property and unobstructed mountain views. You are welcome to explore the grounds and enjoy the land. Chickens roam freely, with the occasional pig sightings in the evening. We do have a fair bit of bugs and geckos. If you’re especially sensitive to mosquitos, this might not be the place for you! Waimanalo is a small agricultural town filled with nurseries, horse stables, and a high concentration of Hawaiian homes. It remains mostly undeveloped and authentic, and we aim to keep it that way. While nestled against the mountains, we're just a five minute drive from the beach. We are fifteen minutes from Kailua town, where you'll find several grocery stores, shops, and restaurants. There are so many great beach and land activities nearby, and I'm happy to lead you in the direction of whatever you might be interested in! We are very protective of this land and town, but would love to share the space with respectful travelers looking for an authentic experience. While we are very hospitable, we are not in the business of hospitality. This is a working farm. I am happy to accommodate travelers, but I am not here at your beck and call. If that is the experience you are seeking, I think you would be happier elsewhere. We appreciate all of your bookings, and profits go directly back into farm infrastructure and new fruit trees. Thank you for looking!

Secluded Mountain Farmstay

3 sites · Lodging, RVs10 acres · Waimanalo, HI
This exquisite and secluded property is located at the base of the Koʻolau mountains in Waimānalo. Surrounded by breath-taking views that will captivate and invigorate your spirit, this private property offers an experience that is one of a kind. With over 10 acres to explore, this regenerative farm is home to many fruit trees, indigenous plants, wild chickens, and other beautiful birds that you will likely spot while taking a stroll on our nature path. We have worked really hard to care for this ʻāina (land), and we are happy to share it with respectful travelers looking for a quiet, authentic, farm-stay experience. Camp Koʻolau provides bathrooms, a warm-water outdoor shower with an amazing view, and parking. Our farm is only a 5-minute drive to the beach, and 15 minutes from popular, Kailua town. As a working farm, we do have insects and geckos hanging around. So, it's not uncommon to encounter them. Also, we often have visits from wild pigs that come down from the mountain, so you may see them as well. Although we are certain you will love this place, please keep in mind, it takes a lot of hard work to maintain it. Thus, you will probably hear farm equipment and activities buzzing about (typically on the weekends). And, we want you to respect, love, and care for this place as much as we do by leaving it better than you found it. For an added fee, we also offer: An exclusive adventure on our Hawaiian sailing canoe to Nā Mokulua (Twin Islands) or around Mānana (Rabbit Island). For more information or to purchase one of these added features, please contact me prior to your arrival.

8 sites · Lodging, Tents5 acres · Haiku, HI
WE CAN ONLY ACCEPT ON-THE-GROUND TENT CAMPING RIGHT NOW. DUE TO NEIGHBORS, WE CANNOT ACCEPT VEHICLE CAMPERS/CAR-TOP TENTS. There is a place to park your vehicle away from the forest, where tents are set up. Full outdoor kitchen, WiFi, lit common space for evenings. WE ALSO OFFER LODGING IN OUR LIBRARY ROOM. MAUI FIRE UPDATE: WE ARE IN HAIKU, WHERE IT IS STILL GREEN AND BEAUTIFUL. WE STILL WELCOME GUESTS WHO ARE LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO ENJOY MAUI'S NATURE BEAUTY. Prayers to all Maui 'ohana suffering losses. Losing Lahaina and its people is devastating for us all. Please be generous in any way you can to help monetarily to our Lahaina Tree Fund. We have joined forces with a number of organizations and WE ARE PLANTING TREES!!! $150 gives the resources to plant 2 trees with enough water resources for one year to establish its deep root foundation. Volunteering with any number of organizations, including ours, contributes to helping Maui be whole again. Mahalo! WE HAVE MADE IMPROVEMENTS SINCE THIS SUMMER, WHEN WE FIRST OPENED. We hope you will find it delightful to camp here! SUMMER CHECK-IN IS AFTER 3 PM AND CHECK-OUT IS BY 10 AM. WE ARE RGHT ON THE WAY TO HANA! Super convenient location! You feel like you are far away in amongst trees, gardens and the sound of the wind. The acreage gives the feeling of spaciousness, yet we are close to Haiku town and Community Center. CHECK-IN MUST BE BEFORE 8 PM UNLESS YOU CONTACT HOST AND REQUEST OTHER ARRANGEMENTS. NOTE: We may have other campers here, as well farm workers and student interns. YOU MAY BE CAMPING OR PREPARING FOOD IN OUR OUTDOOR KITCHEN WITH OTHER PEOPLE. This is an operational farm. Evenings the area is less crowded and tables are clear for your use. One of our proudest offerings is our free range chickens produce high-quality eggs. You can purchase these delicious eggs right here at the farm to enjoy for your breakfast. In addition to our chicken operation, we are also proud coffee producers. Our coffee is carefully grown and harvested on-site, ensuring a rich and flavorful cup every time. When you visit our farm, you'll have the opportunity to relax and unwind in our main hangout Pavilion. This cozy space is the perfect spot to rest, soak in the peaceful surroundings, and truly appreciate the beauty of the farm. However, it's important to note that the Hamakua Coast is known for its lively rooster population. So, while you'll have a serene and tranquil environment during the day, be prepared for the sounds of roosters greeting the morning. One of the highlights of our farm is the stunning waterfall located near the property. Guests are welcome to hike down to this natural wonder and take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear swimming holes. It's an experience you won't want to miss. At this time we are only taking bookings for FRIDAY, SATURDAY and; SUNDAY until the end of June when we will transition in to our new offerings. We apologize for any inconvenience. ................................. ............................................................................................... . We are located in the middle of dense jungle far away from the city. The beauty of the outdoors includes the home of the animals and creatures we share the land with. The winter brings its own crab spiders (not harmful), and all year long we have geckos, mosquitos, wild pigs and dogs in the surrounding neighborhood that are beyond our control. Also please know that we currently have a friendly guard dog and two sweet cats living on the property. PLEASE STAY WITH US BECAUSE YOU LIKE THE OUTDOORS and are not only staying because you canʻt find anything else affordable. Yes, we offer many amenities from home in our Clubhouse, but we are by no means a hotel. Yes we charge more than the state campsites but we also offer more. OUTDOOR provides two separate lighted tented areas. 1. The BYOB Jungle Bar, and 2, The Jungle Lounge area with seating, internet reception, and a makeshift kitchen equipped with cooking wares, propane camp stove, and potable county water (all supplied). We have a small fire pit when the winds are calm. Bring wood, or you can try and salvage from the jungle when dry. INDOOR COMMUNAL SPACE referred to as our "Clubhouse" boasts a partial ocean view. Here you will find a living room area, dining table, game room with some old school video games, (Centipede, Asteroids, Galaga) and collection of board games. (UNDER CONSTRUCTION) Our SHOWER ROOM has a large bamboo enclosement with propane instant hot water with great water pressure. The second INDOOR KITCHEN is stocked with cooking wares, toaster, coffee grinder, vitamix, tea kettle, stove top, fridge and sink available for guest use 5AM to 10PM. CAMPER VANS / POP UPS: THE ONLY FLAT SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR CAMPER VEHICLES ARE THE BANYAN SITES. These spots have a gravel rock bottom and are not suitable for pitching a tent. We get this question all the time so let me try and clarify here. ALL OTHER PARKING SPOTS ARE ON A HILL AND NOT FLAT. TENT SITES: - ON PAUSE CURRENTLY You will NOT be able to drive to the TENT ONLY sites. You have to park your vehicle in the designated parking area and then walk to and sleep in the tent with your sleeping gear from your van (About 100 feet away from parking area). Included in every reservation at the BAMBOO or OCEAN VIEW / TENT ONLY Sites you will find a 4-6 Man Sleep Tent, Mattress and 13 Foot Popup Canopy Tent for extra rain protection over the sleep tent. This is already set up and waiting for you! If you need a sleep setup you can add it upon HipCamp check out for an additional $25. This includes: one xlarge blanket, set of full sheets, 2 pillows, pillowcases, 2 towels and lantern. MORE THEN TWO PEOPLE / KIDS: Because ONLY TWO PEOPLE PER SITE ARE ALLOWED per reservation. You have two options. Option 1: IF YOU HAVE FOUR PEOPLE - BOOK TWO CAMP SITES. Option 2: ADD YOUR 2 ADDITIONAL PEOPLE UPON CHECK OUT and contact me so I can block off the second site. This is because we have limited resources (Space, Kitchen, Bathroom, Shower etc) so we have to be mindful of how many people we are hosting in one night. IF YOU SHOW UP WITH MORE PEOPLE THEN BOOKED - YOU WILL BE CHARGED $44.00 PER ADDITIONAL PERSON. If you have a children 6 years and younger there is no charge but we would still like to be informed that there will be extra people in your party. Please contact us and get permission before you just show up with extra people. CHECK IN: Between 5-7pm. We currently request quiet hours at 8pm to be courteous to our neighbors and campers. And lights on a timer go out at 10pm. The sun and moon will rise over the ocean in front. HANA PREPAREDNESS INFO: The East side of the island is considered the rain forest. It typically rains almost every night and during the day at some point or another. And sometimes very heavy rains. This keeps it lush and green with running waterfalls, but with that, Hana does have mosquitoes too, (worse in the summer) so plan accordingly. We have a few mosquito nets (first come first use) if you need them for your car/van just ask. The jungle also has its own wildlife like spiders, geckos and also wild pigs that activate the neighborhood dogs at times so bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to noise. The Hāna Highway is one of the most magical roads in the world and we appreciate when you let the locals pass. If you have any requests or concerns, just let us know. We aim to please and look forward to hosting you! And be sure to make a reservation to visit the State Park Waianapanpa Black Sand Beach at their website. That is the only park in Hana that requires advanced reservations and it is a must see! The 7-10AM slot is the best for less crowds. FOOD: Be sure to, stock up on groceries before you come out as choices are very limited in Hana and the town closes down early @7pm. We have one gas station (open later) and two small general stores. You will find food trucks in Hana town open later when business is good but its hit or miss what will be open when. 1/2 mile walking distance to camp we have Acai Bowls, Thai Food, and Hana Farms. Every Friday and Saturday nights is Pizza night at Hana Farms and a popular meeting spot.

Farm camping in Hawaii with wifi provided guide

Overview

Although Hawaii is around 2,000 miles from the continental U.S., it's definitely worth the flight. While this tropical island chain is known for its large resorts and sandy beaches, it’s also an incredible place for hiking and camping, not only because of its year-round warm weather, but also because of its sheer diversity of landscapes. Here you’ll find towering volcanoes, tropical forests, massive canyonlands, and historic sites where you can learn about the history and cultural traditions of the islands. And if you don’t want to stay in a resort, you certainly won’t have to: there are many places to set up your tent, from beachfront campgrounds to private retreats.

Where to go

Oahu

Oahu is the state's most-visited island. While many visitors head straight to Honolulu's sandy Waikiki Beach, the island offers plenty to experience outside the big city, with gorgeous beaches all over, plus tons of hiking trails. If you want to camp, you’ll find options at Ahupua'a 'O Kahana State Park and Bellows Field Beach Park, both on the island’s eastern shores.

The Big Island

The Big Island's size isn't its only claim to fame. It's also known for its tasty Kona coffee and for its abundance of volcanoes, including Kīlauea and Mauna Loa, both in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, one of four national parks on the island. There are also lots of places to camp on the island, including at the Kalōpā State Recreation Area and the Kīholo State Park Reserve (weekend camping only).

Maui and Molokai

Maui is well known for its large resorts and gorgeous scenery, especially in the emeraldine ʻĪao Valley State Monument and from Haleakalā National Park, the best place on the island for a sunrise hike. Reservable campsites can be found at both Wai'ānapanapa State Park and the Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area. The nearby island of Moloka'i is a quiet alternative, without the big development found on other islands. Camping is available in the island's Pālāʻau State Park.

Kauai

Dubbed the "Garden Isle" for its numerous gardens and overall lush landscapes, Kauai feels quieter and more laid-back than Maui or Oahu. Its best-known hiking areas include the pristine Nāpali Coast (only accessible by foot or boat) and the vibrantly hued Waimea Canyon State Park, often referred to as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." You can camp in the Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park, provided you obtain a permit in advance, or in Kōke'e State Park and Polihale State Park.

When to go

Hawaii only has two real seasons: a hotter, dryer summer season (April–October) and a cooler, rainier winter (November–March). The resorts and tourist destinations across the islands are at their busiest during the summer and winter vacation months, and hotel and flight prices tend to soar during these periods. Late spring and early autumn are ideal for avoiding rainfall and crowds. Flights from the mainland are generally at their cheapest between January and March.
