Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. Both volcanos have been active recently. There are several trails at the National Park nearby; trails and several species of birds live on the property including Japanese Pheasants. On clear nights the skies provide excellent ambient viewing of the moon, planets and constellations. The campsites and cottage are located in the woods near a shower and flushing toilet and the property is off grid with the goal to establish an example of sustainable lifestyles and ecosystems. Camping equipment is available upon request and the cottage is furnished with a basic kitchen. The grounds also include a screen room with a grill, tables, chairs and a fire pit. Local fruits and vegetables are grown on the property and the greenhouse provides food. Solitude is available for those who seek silence and immersion in nature and a number of state and county beaches are within a forty minute drive. The focus is providing a quiet environment and an opportunity for solitude away from the distractions of urban lifestyles. We have a hidden exotic fruit orchard tucked away through rolling green hills, perched over the Hamakua cliffs, overlooking the pacific. We sell our fruits ripe and cut ready to eat at our roadside fruit stand, open 10-6 daily including holidays! We serve local fresh juices and machete open coconuts to drink ice cold. We grow mango, durian, lilikoi, star fruit, chocolate sapote, buddhas hand citrus, finger limes, tangerines and tangelos, jackfruit, tree grapes, mangosteen, white pineapples, mountain apples, berries, spices and much more. We are home to dozens of rescue animals, many who came from Puna during the 2018 lava flow. Meet peaceful sheep, lambs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese and a lovable pet pig. Not to mention our friendly farm cats. We are a community of a few passionate farmers and fruit lovers. There’s a family- myself Rose, my partner Matthew and our daughter Mela, plus several awesome guys and girls who help out in different areas to grow our lives together!

Enjoy the country life in Kau on the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 19 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there, but you don’t need 4WD to get to our place, but you do need to rent an SUV or truck with high clearance. No sedans. Go slow the road is rough and bumpy in places.. Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot! The silence is golden and the stars are amazing. Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water. Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is a gas grill and propane single burner. Bathroom has manual flush toilet,. This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. You can charge your phone and have a lamp in your cabin. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and T-Mobile work here also. The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing! Our glamping cabins are in the front 3 acres. The back 17 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.

We grow mango, durian, lilikoi, star fruit, chocolate sapote, buddhas hand citrus, finger limes, tangerines and tangelos, jackfruit, tree grapes, mangosteen, white pineapples, mountain apples, berries, spices and much more. We are home to dozens of rescue animals, many who came from Puna during the 2018 lava flow. Meet peaceful sheep, lambs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese and a lovable pet pig. Not to mention our friendly farm cats. We are a community of a few passionate farmers and fruit lovers. Enjoy the country life in Kau on the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 19 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there, but you don’t need 4WD to get to our place, but you do need to rent an SUV or truck with high clearance. No sedans. Go slow the road is rough and bumpy in places.. Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot! The silence is golden and the stars are amazing. Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water. Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is a gas grill and propane single burner. Bathroom has manual flush toilet,. This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. You can charge your phone and have a lamp in your cabin. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and T-Mobile work here also. The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing! Our glamping cabins are in the front 3 acres. The back 17 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.

The 6 acres includes Josanna's Organic garden, a WWOOF farm experience. This space has hosted thousands of people over it's 45 year history and we welcome people to our island and to the district of Puna. We look forward to introducing you to the diverse and delicious fruits of the jungle!

Weekend Trip to Lava Rock Cabin ~ Off Grid Hale
We had two of three houses on the land. The houses are powered by solar with kitchens, hot water showers and bio pump flush toilets. The surroundings are lush and beautiful. About 20-25 minutes to Volcano. Lovely stay.

we loved our hammock cabana stay here! it was very peaceful, the shared spaces were great, everyone was friendly, and there were amazing views from all around the property. the walk into town took about 20 minutes and we had the BEST breakfast and coffee from The Hive!

We loved every part of our stay. From the start, the communication was excellent and friendly, to the night of our stay we enjoyed the adorable cabin. In the morning our boys were even treated to getting feed the local pets:) We would absolutely stay again.

Weekend Trip to 🌈 Rainbow’s End Farm & Homestead!
We enjoyed our comfy bed and deck perch in the jungle. The open kitchen was lovely to cook in. Wendy was away, but communication was excellent, and the caretakers were available, helpful and welcoming. We were driving a Honda Fit with very low clearance, so we drove the rocky road VERY slowly, and planned to come and go only once a day (we spent two nights). I would stay there again for sure, but only if I had a vehicle with higher clearance.

We absolutely loved staying at Hale lo! We arrived at night so the property was very dark, enough to have really good stargazing. Looking for the cabin in the dark was an adventure in itself! As we were walking around, the coquis were singing and we could hear the river running next to our cabin once we found it. The beds were comfy. My son especially loved sleeping in the loft bed! The waterfall is stunning and we wished we had time to spend a few days and explore the land a bit more!

This was our second early-December stay here. The property is in an excellent location above Naalehu, is easy to find, and has spectacular views of the surrounding hillside and ocean. Brian, the onsite manager, was responsive and friendly, and made us feel welcome. The cabins are cute and clean, and the crickets and coqui frogs serenaded us to sleep. The outdoor shower is private and clean, and has plenty of hot water. This is a simple little gem of a place, and we would definitely stay here again.

1 night at IO's NEST LOOKOUT on the Hamakua
We loved Krystle's IO's Nest! It was comfortable, adorable, and atop a hill with spectacular views of the hillside looking down to the ocean from the spacious deck. The sunrise was incredible! The private outdoor shower was amazing and had mood lights, soap/shampoo, and flowers peaking under the bottom of the walls. It was an easy 20 minute walk to Akaka Falls, and there was a fruit stand just outside the first gate where we bought star fruit and coconut from the neighbor. The place was easy to find, and Krystle was an excellent host. She answered all our questions promptly, and made us feel welcome and comfortable. The Nest had electricity, cell service, wifi, an electric kettle and tea, coffee maker with coffee and filters, and a large charging station with USB and AC outlets. There was also a covered parking area right next to the Nest for our motorcycles. We would definitely stay here again!

Thomas was incredibly accommodating as we booked this cabin last minute so that we could spend more time on the east side of the Big Island without having to drive back to Kona. He was there to greet us in the evening when we arrived after a day at the park, and was there to send us off as we continued on our journey in the morning. This cabin provides more of a camping feel as the property is off the grid, but you'll find all the essentials such as a full sized bed, linens, warm shower and a toilet. If you're like me and attract mosquitos, bringing a mosquito net may be useful as well.

Weekend Trip to Affordable Hawai'i
Loved the campsite, cozy tent and even a bit of ocean view. Host was welcoming and kind, left us local fruit and warm tea. Bonus for flush toilets and a warm (indoor) shower! Great location, remote and quiet but a close drive to some nice local spots. Great middle ground if you're traveling from Kona to Hilo and sightseeing along the way. Last bit of the route is a bit rough though, make sure you're ready for dirt roads.

I loved treehouse living at Rainbow’s End. This is my happy place! Waking up to birds talking, surrounded by greenery and trees, in a (very) comfortable bed (with mosquito net) is one of my very favorite things. Super relaxing, great getaway. I will definitely be back! Thank you! ♥️🌈

We loved staying at Wendy’s! She was an incredibly generous host and communicated really well. As soon as we landed in Kona, she let us know that a volcano was fountaining, told us to head straight there, and had no issues with our late check-in as a result! Literally a once in a lifetime opportunity we would have missed if not for Wendy. The space itself was beautiful. Wendy’s property is gorgeous and she gave us a lovely tour of all the fruit trees she’s planted. The little cabin we stayed in was cozy and we loved having breakfast out in the deck. If we’re ever in the area again, we’d stay at Wendy’s in a heartbeat.

We booked this room to extend our trip, and it was perfect. The space was both spacious and cozy, with thoughtful touches like a fridge and toaster oven that made our stay extra comfortable. The view from the room was incredible — a beautiful breeze and scenery we could’ve enjoyed for hours. Our host was truly the best. Their local recommendations were spot-on and added so much to our trip. We’re so grateful for their kindness and hospitality. Highly recommend this stay!

This is our second time at Hamakua House (last time 8 years ago) - we love the vibe and the caretakers are really nice and generous. A bit rustic, as expected for hammock cabanas, but very cute. A short drive to Hilo and beautiful countryside location. We would stay again (hopefully sooner than 8 years!)

We had such an amazing experience here! The sunset views alone made this stay unforgettable — truly some of the most beautiful we’ve ever seen. Our host went above and beyond, from sharing wonderful local recommendations to graciously allowing us to extend our stay when we weren’t ready to leave. The property was peaceful, well cared for, and perfect for unwinding. We loved having a place to dry our towels and swimsuits after long days outside, and the fresh tangelo from the garden was such a special touch. You can really tell how much care and intention goes into making guests feel welcome here. We’re already talking about coming back. Highly, highly recommend this stay!
