The 38,000-acre Lake Lanier is the largest in the state, popular for its beach, boating, swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and its close proximity to Atlanta. Fort Yargo Lake and High Falls Lake are other Atlanta area options, both year-round destinations with plenty of trails for hiking and biking.
