In the heart of the Mancos River Valley, you'll find yourself at the perfect basecamp for all that the area has to offer! It's just 15 minutes to the entrance gate at Mesa Verde National Park, designated in April of 2021 as the 100th Dark Sky Park by the International Dark Sky Association. Other downtown offerings include locally roasted coffee at Fahrenheit Coffee Roasters, and an incredible variety of baked goods and delightful breakfast and lunch options at the renowned Absolute Bakery and Cafe.  Grab take out and sit at a picnic table by the Mancos River or in the park across the street or enjoy their dining area featuring local art.  Be sure to also check out local artists' work in the art vending machines at Fahrenheit Coffee Roasters and Fenceline Cider! RV camping near Durango guide

Overview

Rich history and rich natural beauty come together for RV campers in Durango. Nestled amid the Animas River Valley and the San Juan Mountains, this is a solid basecamp for exploring southwest Colorado, with Mesa Verde National Park less than an hour away. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is arguably the best way to take in the region's natural beauty—while whitewater rafting offers a more exhilarating tour. Or, maybe you will want to sit back in a hot spring and soak in the scenery. Either way, campers will find biking, boating, golfing, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, and off-road UTV riding, and RVers can take their pick from area RV parks, private RV site rentals, and public campsites in the San Juan National Forest and Mancos State Park. RV parks, especially those closer to historic downtown Durango, may have big-rig friendly sites, free wifi, full hookups, laundry facilities, and more, while private RV sites and public campgrounds are likely to be more rustic but private.
