1 night at Terra Vivus

The space was awesome. I slept so well. Dark. Quiet. Yes it was windy but I was sleeping in my car so no issue there for me. One of the "wild" dogs came by the say hello but was friendly and didn't stick around too long. The Joshua trees were truly beautiful. Masons place was easy to find and only a short drive off the paved road. Would absolutely recommend.

I had such a wonderful time at this absolutely stunning spot. The views were fantastic and the neighbors dogs were so sweet. I also had the opportunity to spot some nocturnal wildlife so that was great!

Weekend Trip to Rosemead 12 miles to DT Los Angeles

I used this space as a safe place to spend the night before a morning event in downtown LA. The description and comments gave me a good idea of what to expect, which was fine for me given my willingness to sleep in my vehicle and my prioritizing price. I had trouble accessing a couple of the amenities, but the host was responsive to get me the right wifi password.

We loved the privacy and the view! For a Hipcamp we were very impressed with all the extras. Nice firepits, great shower, and the site was very clean.

Did a group trip with friends here for the night and it was a beautiful getaway for my friends and I during our spring break. We really enjoyed the outdoor shower and privacy we had considering the hosts were on the land nearby. Host have farm animals which were not a bother at all and entertaining to watch when nearby. Campsite comes a table and fire ring (firewood can be bought on site.) Other campers were distance away but this is also because the campsite next to us was not booked. Overall is was a lovely site and Site 3 adjacent is closed to the restroom and shower. The location also has a gaint oaktree with space in the middle (there is was our chill spot with a hammock). Plenty of farm animals but also wildlife that was around, mainly birds and frogs. Check in and out was smooth and accommodating for our needs. Hosts are quick to respond. The only thing which was off was a surprise visit from one of the host after dark (this was due to a delayed zelle payment on our end and he came over to our site during our late dinner).

1 night at Rosemead 12 miles to DT Los Angeles

Host was very quick to respond to my questions, kind, and accommodating. We just needed a nearby last minute place to park our campervan while visiting friends in town. Host responded quickly and we were glad to have that peace of mind! We have a Ram Promaster 2500 high roof van (156" wheelbase) and fit fine down the driveway. It is a little tight and steep so make sure you are comfortable with your driving capabilities and are within the recommended size range for camping at this site. They are doing some construction to improve the site so there are some construction vehicles there, but nothing in our way. There were other campers when we stayed and everyone was quiet, kind, and respectful. There are also a lot of RVs being stored at the site. We didn't have a problem with this, just needed a good spot to sleep. It is an urban area so there is a little road noise, occasional dog barking, etc but nothing too disruptive, we slept fine in our van. There are nearby street lights on all night so make sure you have curtains or window covers. Overall we enjoyed our stay, just needed somewhere to park last minute for 2 nights and Richard was responsive and accommodating! Great price for the location and having amenities like a bathroom, water, etc.

This is the best campsite I think I've ever stayed at. Hot shower, friendly hosts, close bathrooms, even trash and recycling. Can’t ask for much more. Be ready to wake up to a rooster, love all the animals in though.

Our backcountry hiking plans got delayed due to weather and this was a great last minute place to sleep before we attempted our trip again. We appreciated the hot shower in the morning. Hosts were kind and helpful. Hiking close by. In fact everyone we talked to in town was extremely kind and helpful.

Clear directions, great site with an amazing landscape. Be prepared for high winds and a little bit of light pollution, but still an amazing view of Joshua Trees and the Tehachapi Mountains!

We had a great time staying at the ranch. Luckily it was as only us so was quiet at the campground. We wanted something close to Ojai and this location worked out great since it’s only 10-15 minutes from town. Hosts were welcoming and friendly. We didn’t use the shower but is a nice touch and worked great when we tried it.

Beautiful spot with a just-the-right-size cabin for two. Lots of space outside to sit and take in the beautiful surroundings. The alpacas and donkeys right in front of the cabin add something really special to the experience.

Fantastic view of the hills and mountains, fun there were some animals as well! Host was helpful and friendly, RV spot had water and power, it was a good distance from the cabins to provide some space. Would stop in again, if pulling an RV I’d suggest using 4WD up the hill

Wonderful place and very kind hosts. We came in mid-week in February and had the place basically to ourselves which was lovely. Site 3 has a nice shady area right next to it. And walking to the river from RV site 2 was really fun and easy. Really enjoyed having a fire in the provided firepit. And they had firewood for sale on site which was super convenient. We came with our dog and had all had a great time!

Beautiful natural campsites in the Valley of the Moon (Ojai Valley). Our sites are within an eighth of a mile of walking, running, biking, and riding trails from Ojai to the beaches of Ventura. On many days you can experience Ojai’s famous pink moments. You can hike the trails above Ojai, boat, eat, or picnic at Lake Casitas. Travel to nearby Ventura to shop, fish the pier, or take a deep sea fishing charter or Island charter to Whale watch or fish around the Channel Islands. Please note the aerial view of the camping area recently placed by Hipcamp is NOT AT ALL REPRESENTATIVE of the current camping sites and shows a photo that is many years old when the site was merely land. That photo is without any of the existing amenities or improvements. The actual sites are all Larger than Federal Park and Statepark guidelines, with averages of 20'x30' for campsites and 20'x40' for a long RVCampsite. We have planted many young trees and continue to plant trees and native shrubs around and near the sites. We have picnic tables, table coverings, fire pits, and camping rugs/footprints. There is also an outdoor shower, a shower tent with hot water, and an upgraded porta-potty with a sink. Note: During times when high heat is predicted, we strongly recommend that our Hipcampers bring pop-up shade tents or canopies for their sites. The Hipcamp is adjacent to our working ranch, and any photos of old sheds, trucks, a wood lot, or other equipment are NOT on the Hipcamp, but you will drive past that property to get to the separate Hipcamp area. Wineries, Farmer's Markets, Craft Breweries, dispensaries, and more are within 10 to 15 minutes of our site. Our location allows moments when you may see Hawks, Owls, Geese, Swallows, Robins, Bluebirds, and more. We offer both tent and RV camping. I am in the process of building a tree/shrub wind block. There's about .4 miles of dirt road to get to the property, there are some dips to watch out for but I come out here in a little Prius so it's manageable. Overall, there is an element of seclusion but occasionally people do drive by on the dirt road. I would rate the cell phone service a 7/10, it's pretty solid but can go out at times.

Gem of the Bend (Horses welcome)

The Chumash called the peak of Mount Piños the center of the universe, or center of the world depending on the translation. This campground is at the southeast base of this mountain. The San Andreas fault is just about 8 miles away, and many other faults meet nearby. The mountains here are full of geological signs of the Forces that ripped away Santa Barbara from the North American plate as it was flipped upside down. This is the entrance to the Enchanted Forest. Learn more about this land: Lockwood Valley is so close to Los Angeles and other urban areas, but feels 1000 miles away. Our neighborhood is a gem within Lockwood Valley. The community has less than 20 residences so it is very rural, but neighborly. There are horses nearby, you will hear some roosters in the distance, and if you are lucky, you may hear the African lions or wolves from the next canyon over where there is a (fully contained) wildlife sanctuary called Steve Martins Working Wildlife (not the funny guy). Great secluded spot for a fully contained RV. Easy entrance from a good dirt road. The actual property of the site is 1/8 of an acre and is surrounded by forest and fields. A picnic table is nestled in a grove of trees next to a steel fire pit ring. Bring your hammock to relax under big shady piñon pines. The site is about 200 yards from the entrance to the Los Padres National Forest with great hiking, mountain biking, birdwatching, hunting, etc. There is currently no privacy barrier between the campsite and the dirt road, but the traffic is extremely minimal. There are two 12’x24’ horse corrals on the property. This area is ideal for horseback trail riding and the campsite location makes for the perfect base camp. This is a superb stargazing spot, far from the city lights. Many amateur astronomers come to this area for the dark skies. At a mile high, nights can be very cold, and in the winter it is possible to get up to a couple feet of snow. Weather conditions such as heavy rain or snow can make the roads and campsite impassable at times so cancellations are possible in this case (this happens a lot less than we would like, of course, because we need the precipitation!).
