Teach your toddler how to build a dam in the shallow creek. Read. There are no visible neighbors, no ambient light or sound. The air is clean and clear and the water is potable from an artesian spring on the property. No electricity at the sites, no generators allowed. (Charge your electronics at the farmhouse.) My aunt and uncle bought the property in 1947 from the first European settler, Paolo Gabrielli, who immigrated in early 1914 from northern Italy with slips of his grapevine in the lining of his coat. (The grapevine still grows over the back deck.) Paolo's wife Felicita and their three children stayed behind; they were to follow within the year. In the country outside of Ferndale, California, Paolo purchased the property one mile from the ocean and built a Tyrolean-style house, a chicken house (with a grappa still under the main floor), an outhouse, a corral, and a barn. He purchased 7 cows. And then, it was August 1914, and the War to End All Wars broke out in Europe. Felicita and the children, living in their village on the Austrian border, were interned in a prison camp in Austria with the rest of the village's residents. The Gabriellis' young daughter died there. Six years passed before Felicita and her sons, Virgil and Louis, were able to join Paolo in America. In 1938, Virgil--Fr. Gino--became the first Ferndale boy to serve Mass in his hometown church. Felicita died in 1940, and Paolo closed the dairy and moved into Ferndale. In 2013, we invited the people who had been children in the 1920s and '30s and who had come to this ranch after Sunday Mass to gather with other Italian families for polenta, wine, and music. These old-timers came to our house with photographs and maps and Mass cards and diaries, and shared their memories of a childhood in this place that still embraced them. What can you expect? Lovely 5 acre property in the wilderness of Trinity County, ideally suited as a retreat setting far away from city living for an individual or a couple. Nestled in a tiny town with little traffic, no cell phone reception and nature as far as the eye can reach, the property butts up against the wild and scenic South Fork of the Trinity River. Here you will be able to unwind, relax and make the space your own for just a few days or up to a month. The 2 houses on the property are about 80' from the RV spot. Enough plants are grown around each house to provide privacy in the summer/fall. The property has a farm vibe. There are large vegetable gardens, fruit trees and I raise Duck and Lamb meat. MOST IMPORTANT: There is no cell phone reception in town or anywhere near it, however I do provide unlimited WIFI via a booster. This place is not suitable for children, pets or cigarette smokers. Babies/Toddlers are ok. The property is adjacent to a country road and though you can hear the traffic as it goes by, the amount of cars is small in this town of 250 people. There are 2 neighbors that are quiet and considerate and far enough away to enjoy your privacy and nature retreat. The property is 5 Acres and borders the South Fork of the Trinity River and Hayfork Creek. There is a short little trail near the house for walks or jogs, and plenty of pristine swim spots/holes all over this area. We have a small Post Office and one small General Store that offers some basic non organic food items/supplies, gas and propane. I grow my own produce and will be happy to share any excess produce during your stay. However, it is important to arrive well prepared with food and supplies before arriving at property. The next closest town with more amenities is Hayfork, and it's about a 40 minute drive. No hospital or police station in town. Next services are in Weaverville CA. Nearest place to get all groceries is in Hayfork, a 35 min drive from Hyampom.

The Pacific Crest trail can be partially hiked from the top of Scott Mt. to our western town of Etna (just 4 miles up the road) established during the gold rush in 1853. My hay fields are being grazed by 20 pairs of cows to replenish the soil at present. I grow organic vegetables and fruit trees, where I welcome my guests to help in the garden. Blackberry picking in the summer is a game to beat the birds! Many species of birds call my farm home. Many heritage apple trees planted by Johnny Appleseed grace my front lawn and lower pasture. Fall is apple picking time. The farm was started in 1926. My 100-year-old haying barn is in the process of being restored, keeping the unique feature of a stream running through it. Quiver, my horse, is the sole occupant with visits from Mr. Cream, the feral cat and my faithful rescue German Shepherd, General Rommel. I am also remodeling the 100-year-old farmhouse with a modern kitchen where soon I will have a cooking school. Lovely 5 acre property in the wilderness of Trinity County, ideally suited as a retreat setting far away from city living for an individual or a couple. Nestled in a tiny town with little traffic, no cell phone reception and nature as far as the eye can reach, the property butts up against the wild and scenic South Fork of the Trinity River. Here you will be able to unwind, relax and make the space your own for just a few days or up to a month. The 2 houses on the property are about 80' from the RV spot. Enough plants are grown around each house to provide privacy in the summer/fall. The property has a farm vibe. There are large vegetable gardens, fruit trees and I raise Duck and Lamb meat. MOST IMPORTANT: There is no cell phone reception in town or anywhere near it, however I do provide unlimited WIFI via a booster. This place is not suitable for children, pets or cigarette smokers. Babies/Toddlers are ok. The property is adjacent to a country road and though you can hear the traffic as it goes by, the amount of cars is small in this town of 250 people. There are 2 neighbors that are quiet and considerate and far enough away to enjoy your privacy and nature retreat. The property is 5 Acres and borders the South Fork of the Trinity River and Hayfork Creek. There is a short little trail near the house for walks or jogs, and plenty of pristine swim spots/holes all over this area. We have a small Post Office and one small General Store that offers some basic non organic food items/supplies, gas and propane. I grow my own produce and will be happy to share any excess produce during your stay. However, it is important to arrive well prepared with food and supplies before arriving at property. The next closest town with more amenities is Hayfork, and it's about a 40 minute drive. No hospital or police station in town. Next services are in Weaverville CA. Nearest place to get all groceries is in Hayfork, a 35 min drive from Hyampom.

We've been carefully tending and nurturing this forest for just over two years to mechanically remove invasives like scotch broom, himaylayan black berry, English ivy, Pampas grass, bull thistle, and non-native onions while reintroducing native species. He purchased 7 cows. And then, it was August 1914, and the War to End All Wars broke out in Europe. Felicita and the children, living in their village on the Austrian border, were interned in a prison camp in Austria with the rest of the village's residents. The Gabriellis' young daughter died there. Six years passed before Felicita and her sons, Virgil and Louis, were able to join Paolo in America. In 1938, Virgil--Fr. Gino--became the first Ferndale boy to serve Mass in his hometown church. Felicita died in 1940, and Paolo closed the dairy and moved into Ferndale. In 2013, we invited the people who had been children in the 1920s and '30s and who had come to this ranch after Sunday Mass to gather with other Italian families for polenta, wine, and music. These old-timers came to our house with photographs and maps and Mass cards and diaries, and shared their memories of a childhood in this place that still embraced them. What can you expect? A beautiful 70-acre farm located in the heart of Scott Valley along French Creek, where you can go swimming, but no fishing. Alpine lakes close by in the Russian and Marble Mountain wilderness areas for hiking and fishing. The Pacific Crest trail can be partially hiked from the top of Scott Mt. to our western town of Etna (just 4 miles up the road) established during the gold rush in 1853. My hay fields are being grazed by 20 pairs of cows to replenish the soil at present. I grow organic vegetables and fruit trees, where I welcome my guests to help in the garden. Blackberry picking in the summer is a game to beat the birds! Many species of birds call my farm home. Many heritage apple trees planted by Johnny Appleseed grace my front lawn and lower pasture. Fall is apple picking time. The farm was started in 1926. My 100-year-old haying barn is in the process of being restored, keeping the unique feature of a stream running through it. Quiver, my horse, is the sole occupant with visits from Mr. Cream, the feral cat and my faithful rescue German Shepherd, General Rommel. I am also remodeling the 100-year-old farmhouse with a modern kitchen where soon I will have a cooking school. Relaxing on the lawn swing looking south to the snow-capped mountains of the Trinity Alps wilderness area is a perfect way to end the day!
