That’s right, the Amazon River!! Wait a second...? Ok we were just pulling your leg. The Rio Grande is, indeed, correct! Just beyond the river bank, this 100-site campground with flush toilets, picnic tables, grills and running water is set among a large grove of cottonwood trees. Four group sites are also available by reservation, with capacities between 9-20 people for sites A and B, and 9-40 for sites C and D. Any less and it’s not a real party; any more and it’s an all out rager! So if you do decide to have an epic blowout, just make sure to reserve multiple sites.

Every night the coyotes would cross the road and come for a visit..Thus the name Coyote Crossing.. When arriving at night it will be very dark.. very few lights in use, dark sky's are protected in Big Bend.. so it may be hard to find. but we are directly on the highway on the west side of 118. Trash Dumpster up front for your use. No collecting rocks, cactus or wood to burn... NO TRACE, leave it as you find it..

Paisano Azul Ranch is on 30 acres located by Terlingua Creek. The property is just minutes from the Terlingua Ghost Town and a short 3 mile drive to the Big Bend National park. Come pitch your tent or park your camper amid the peaceful desert hillside with views of plateaus that lead to the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park. There is a fire pit on site for you to toast marshmallows or cozy up near, and you can enjoy a bite to eat at the picnic table provided at each site. The picnic tables are placed beneath shade sails. There are two nice and new desert tan flushing Porta-Potties on-site, as well as showers for guests to use. These come in handy after a long day hiking. We hope you'll enjoy the beautiful open sky sunsets, sunrises, and stargazing as much as we do. We are located just 3 miles from the entrance to Big Bend National Park. There are plenty of opportunities to get out and explore - you can hike, bike, canoe camp; kayak, off-road, swim, go horseback riding, visit hot springs, as well as visit restaurants, galleries, and listen to great music in Terlingua. There is something for everyone to feel free to bring the whole family. DIRECTIONS: Once you are on Road Runner Circle, go past the house on the left with the Christmas lights on. Please continue down the road and follow the road around the curve to the left. The campsites will be on the left and side behind the rock walls. The campsite number that is booked is the campsite you will stay in. Additional details to note: - We now have an above ground pool to keep cool in during the summer! Covered with a shade sail the water stays nice and chilly. ($10 fee/person) - You can stay connected if you'd like to, as cell reception and wifi are both available on our property. Feel free to unplug during your stay though. - Seeing other campers on your trip at the campsite is very standard, as the sites are far enough apart to feel like they are yours, but they are not private. - Potable water is provided on-site. We have an artisan well on property that has been certified as drinkable. It is double filtered to give you the best drinking water. Just 2 miles before the western entrance to Big Bend National Park We have 10 acres of room for tent camping and boondock RV camping-only spots in the roadside spot in downtown Study-Butte Texas. Come and stay near the Big Bend National Park! An intimate campsite (not too far off the grid) A campground just outside Big Bend National Park where you can relax and recharge. Short walk to Cottonwood grocery ONLY 1000 FEET TO WALK East crossing over the bridge to mile marker 538 just 1000 feet walking distance from Rough Run Creek Bridge to Cottonwood grocery store and supply. The camping area is about one mile past the intersection of Highway TX-170 and TX-118 approximately one mile South on the left at the Rough Run Creek Campground. Heading only 3 miles further to the gateway into Big Bend National Park, Texas at the Western entrance following on State Highway TX-118 South. Big Bend State Park is to the West on Highway TX-170 approximately 29 miles from Rough Run Creek Bridge past the town of Terlingua, Texas 79852 Rough Run Creek Bridge Camping 53737 TX-118, Study Butte, Texas 79852 - Ten 10 acres of creekfront property This campground is a roadside camping area, directly on Highway TX-118 at the Southeast end of Rough Run Creek Bridge On the East side of the highway. Enter the property between the Rough Run Creek Bridge and the large black mailbox which also marks the South property line of the camping area. The South property line runs 800' feet deep from the roadside of highway TX-118 along the creek bed of Rough Run Creek. At the East end of the campground, you will find an old camper shell near the Southeast end of the campground and the property corner. There are 10 acres in the "dispersed" #BYO everything camping area, #BYO Sleeping bags, #BYO Tent Shades, and #BYO Gas grills, unfortunately, for now, you have to #BYO toilet. Rough Run Creek Bridge camping area includes the creek bed itself, with beachfront camping. The best location to stage an early morning hiking trip from locations for campers visiting Big Bend National Park which is only 2 miles away. Please leave nothing but your tracks when camping or leaving the area for the day. Each night campers must make bookings by 11:00 AM for check-in and out on a ticketed day pass. For showers and bathroom facilities, we recommend the bathroom showers provided at the Big Bend Motor Inn where they have coin-operated shower facilities for visiting tourists. If you need to dump any trash the Big Bend Motor Store and gas station will let you pay $5.00 to use their dumpsters. Please honor the BURN BAN (no open fires). Propane cooking stoves are okay.

The Tierra del Sol Basecamp is an open desert camping area located within Terlingua Ranch, 3 miles off of Hwy 118, 19 miles north of Study Butte and 22 miles to the entrance to Big Bend National Park. This region of far west Texas is well known for its remote ruggedness and beauty rapidly becoming the go-to place for those wanting to get away from it all, without having to spend a fortune to do it. It’s one of the last frontiers of North America and One of the only two National Parks in Texas. The Basecamp will reside on the 40 acre property. In the center is an area of approximately 6 acres flat, with rising limestone ridge lines to the east and west, open skyline to south with a view of Bofecillos Mountains, an area characterized by volcanic deposits of lava and ash-flow tuff and sedimentary deposits of conglomerates and sandstones. The four mountain tops; Packsaddle, Hen Egg, Panther and Agua Fria Mountains provide an amazing view during the day and at night, breathtaking night time views of the Milky Way and the multitudes of stars to gaze upon unlike any other place in North America. The morning sunrise over the eastern mesa brings its own spectacular views. Surrounding the 40 acres are many things of archaeological wonder. A Rock Hounds dream of minerals, stones and fossilized prehistoric microorganisms, as well as, the potential of finding the fossils of large prehistoric aquatic mammals. Yes, you are free to take a small sample of the thousands of quartz and calcite stones found in huge abundance. As you come to then end of Mailbox Rd., you'll see a residence to your left. This is "The Field Lab", owned by the well know sustainable engineer John Wells. If you'd like to pay him a visit, please contact him in advance.

Bring your own food! Limited selection at the camp store. Note that there is a generator-free area of the campground, spots 21-27 odd, 40, 41-49 odd, 94-100 even.

Close to river. Service station close by for supplies (ice, food and bev, laundry, shower). Restrooms nice. Neighbors are pretty close, in sight. Far from Main entrance (1.5 hrs!), but close to border crossing (must have passport!). Covered table area allows hammocks to be easily strung. Nice bear proof storage.

$16 to stay, even though there are no hookups. There are a couple of restrooms, and water spigots. Close access to several trails, including the Hot Springs Trail. General Store nearby with wifi connection (no service in the campground). Close to port-of-entry to Boquillas, Mexico. Worth the trip across the river ($5 row boat).

Honestly this campground is about a 45 minute drive to many of the iconic hikes and sights at Big Bend so if camping here it's important to account for the travel time when planning out hikes. All of the campsites are very close together and sound carries so it's important not to get too rowdy (as our neighbors did and kept us up most of the night on multiple occasions). The sites are located in a basin and so the sunsets and rises are very attractive and the chance to see jack rabbits is at peak. Reserving sites can be tricky as this is a very large park without a lot of camping areas so if you want to camp there you need to reserve months in advance.

We recently stayed at the Rio Grande campground because the Chisos Campground was closed due to a fire. The campsites were a bit closer to each other than we prefer, but thankfully we had quiet neighbors. It can be close to 50 degrees hotter here than in the Chisos, so be sure to get a site with tons of shade. Make sure you hit up the hot springs just down the road!

Rio Grande Village has the most openings and largest sites if you drop in to Big Bend National Park without a reservation. Less busy than Chisos Basin sites. We were planning on backcountry camping--which is first-come, first-serve--but were not able to get passes the first two nights. Winter is their busy season (the desert gets hot!), so go to Rio Grande Village first to nab a spot. It is by Boquillos Canyon (where you can cross the border to the small town), with the Sierra del Carmen range as a backdrop at the camp sites. Boquillos Hot Springs (a must after-hike soak) only a quarter-mile hike from a mile unpaved, but low-clearance drive off the main road. Expect to find handmade Mexican gifts there and petroglyphs.

Rio Grande Village is similar to Cottonwood Campground but offers more sites. There are Javelina warning signs on every picnic table so make sure to keep your food stored in the car or bear box offered at each site. Nearby attractions are Boquillas Canyon, Hot Springs and Rio Grande Village Nature Trail.

We stayed here on Oct 29, 2014. They water the area by floor so make sure you pitch your tent on high ground. We saw javelina out and about most of the night. You also want to make sure you keep your smellables either in the car or bear box to keep the javelinas from visiting your tent. Rio Grande Village is an interesting close quarters mix of tent camping and RV sites. The Tent camping is in the far east side of the site and has good wind cover. If you are tent camping, be sure to set up inside the "no generator zone" so you're not kept up all night by the RV campers. This site is super windy as it sits in a large valley. Typical wind speeds of 15mph or higher.
