The cabins at Elk Creek Guard Station are located in a magnificent mountain meadow.

This remote area is interspersed with Douglas fir and lodgepole pine trees and has become somewhat of a haven for winter sports fanantics. There are over 30 miles of groomed trails near the cabins, but since deep snow can blanket the area in winter months, visitors should be prepared to snowmobile, snowshoe, or ski at least 15 miles to get there. Just think of it as your future “uphill, both ways” story. The cabins are equipped with the appliances and utensils you’ll need to cook a mean feed, but please plan on supplying your own water, lighting, and bedding. Firewood is available in the shed, but you may need to pull a Paul Bunyun and split it using an axe. You got this!

It is situated just across the lake from Tamarack Ski Resort, with tons of hiking and biking trails, boating, and fishing nearby. The lot is a quick .4 mile walk or drive to the Boulder Creek State Park boat launch and beach area. The towns of Donnelly and Cascade are just a short drive away as well. There are two RV spots available as well as space for tent camping if needed. This listing is for the entire property. **NOTE: there is electric and water hookup for ONE, and sewer hookups for TWO. The power on site includes one 30 amp outlet and one 110v outlet that may also be used with the proper adapter. **We have one extension cord available for your use if needed. The address to the house next door is 519 MiddleFork Rd, Garden Valley, ID 83622. That will get you to the property. The property is right after 519 it is a large open lot that leads down to the river. There is a black military vehicle parked on the very end close to the house. So there are two sections 1st is a flat section where you have plenty of room to set up tents and RVs. It is right off the road, and any car can get to the site with ease. The 2nd section is more wooded and has access to the river. You are welcome to tent camp here it is just getting an RV down there and out can be a challenge I don't recommend it. Also, the bridge across the river is the neighbors and so is the property across the river. There are roughly 4 campsites on the property but can camp where you want really. Large flat spot above the river that has access to the water. Half of the property is a flat spot for RV's and tents the 2nd half is more green, woody and has access to the river. There is a deeper spot in the river that is 3-4 feet deep and is perfect to lounge in during the hot parts of the summer. Please pack out what you pack in and keep the place nice for the next camper. The Sawtooth Monkey is a fictional character who lives in the Sawtooth mountains in Idaho, this creature is a crossbreed of a salmon and baby Bigfoot. Breeding and divine intervention took place circa 1989 when the 1989 fire hit the SF region of the Payette river. Baby Bigfoot had no where to go but the river, he was saved by a school of salmon who by Deus ex machina and the Idaho river God, Beeraspirits transformed Bigfoot and the Alpha 15 pound papa salmon into the Sawtooth Monkey. When SM hit puberty he developed a skin condition and an appetite for coconuts. He is currently friendly but a nuisance, because of his skin problems he is known for stealing ointment, lotions and sunscreen. Also, because of his love for coconuts, he is known for steal those too. Should you confront or come in contact with this elusive creature, please don't feed him anything but coconuts.

Magical pools of warmth are found just a short hike down the trail from the parking area. One of my favorite hot springs in Idaho. Rafters and kayakers often stop on their way down the river to warm up.
