5 miles south of Hilo on Highway 11, Nämakanipaio Campground is a large open grassy area at 4,000 feet of elevation featuring tall eucalyptus and 'ōhi'a trees. The weather can be highly variable with many cool and damp days. Daytime temps are usually in the 60s or 70s and nighttime can be anywhere from the 30s to low 50s (Fahrenheit). It’s highly recommended you use a tent with a solid rainfly, and bring comfy clothing for cool days, evenings, and the inevitable cuddle puddle.

Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. The property is located on the Kilauea Volcano at about 2700 feet in elevation and in sight of the majestic Mauna Loa volcano rising at the peak at 13,680 feet. Both volcanos have been active recently. There are several trails at the National Park nearby; trails and several species of birds live on the property including Japanese Pheasants. On clear nights the skies provide excellent ambient viewing of the moon, planets and constellations. The campsites and cottage are located in the woods near a shower and flushing toilet and the property is off grid with the goal to establish an example of sustainable lifestyles and ecosystems. Camping equipment is available upon request and the cottage is furnished with a basic kitchen. The grounds also include a screen room with a grill, tables, chairs and a fire pit. Local fruits and vegetables are grown on the property and the greenhouse provides food. Solitude is available for those who seek silence and immersion in nature and a number of state and county beaches are within a forty minute drive. The focus is providing a quiet environment and an opportunity for solitude away from the distractions of urban lifestyles. Beaches are about forty five minutes and the drive to Hilo is about 25 miles.

We are a small 5 acre farmstead located on the beautiful Hamakua Coast. Our farm is home to a variety of animals and boasts numerous fruit trees. One of our proudest offerings is our free range chickens produce high-quality eggs. You can purchase these delicious eggs right here at the farm to enjoy for your breakfast. In addition to our chicken operation, we are also proud coffee producers. Our coffee is carefully grown and harvested on-site, ensuring a rich and flavorful cup every time. But coffee isn't the only thing we grow here. Our farm is also home to a diverse selection of fruit trees, including Jack fruit, Lychee, Longans, Avocados, Bananas, and Tangerines. When you visit our farm, you'll have the opportunity to relax and unwind in our main hangout Pavilion. This cozy space is the perfect spot to rest, soak in the peaceful surroundings, and truly appreciate the beauty of the farm. However, it's important to note that the Hamakua Coast is known for its lively rooster population. So, while you'll have a serene and tranquil environment during the day, be prepared for the sounds of roosters greeting the morning. One of the highlights of our farm is the stunning waterfall located near the property. Guests are welcome to hike down to this natural wonder and take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear swimming holes. It's an experience you won't want to miss. For your convenience, we offer an outdoor shower and a flushing toilet for our campers. We understand that comfort and cleanliness are important, even when enjoying the great outdoors. Arnott's Lodge

Our campground is located by our main lodge, Arnott's Lodge, which has been in operation for 30+ years. We have been hosting campers on our lawn for a long time, and are able to offer wifi, parking spaces, charging stations, bathrooms and showers, coin-op laundry, and a small outdoor cooking area, all in a safe location. Our check-in hours are between 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.

This town was established in the sugar cane plantation era and remains today boasting some wonderful gift shops, two restaurants, a coffee house, and the Island's best Zip Line Tours. Guests have access to our open air full bathroom with running water and a stunning rainfall shower (located at the main house). They also have access to our covered outdoor kitchen with grills, a sink, prep space, dining area, dishes, cups, silverware, and cookware (also located at the main house).

Captain Cooks Lava Tube Camp/cabins

Touring the Lava Tube is free with a paid Camp reservation. All Items brought in, must be taken back out. The showers and toilets are brand new comfortable and very clean and maintained multiple times a day. The property is very well laid out for campers to have their own privacy and access to the facilities and lava tube. The star gazing here is phenomenal and the lava tube is one of the biggest on the island at 450' long with a 50' ceiling and about 50' wide.. going in on a nice staircase to a groomed path is a breeze. Leaving is just as spectacular. I call it entering a new world by maina Loas creation. The paths are lit up by hundreds of solar lights and all building have automatic lights to assist your navigation of the property.

We have a great paved ocean view area for camper vans and many options for pitching tents or parking under the trees. We love to share our abundance with others and opening the property to travelers that love to camp seemed like a perfect addition to our current program. Please, outside pets are not allowed. We stayed at the great cabins but would have been just as warm in our tent and would camp next time. The trees smellled sooooo good there. I’d camp again just for that.

Pretty good camp. Spots were medium sized not too much privacy but not cramped. Fire pit level parking and ground, clean restrooms and sink station. Information easily available. Paying was a little tricky but only because I couldn't find a pen or didn't have exact cash...
