Thornhill Broome Campground

Thornhill Broome Campground offers beachfront camping at the northern end of Point Mugu State Park.

This is a perfect spot for pitching your tent on the sand and watching the sunset over the ocean from camp. You'll have a view of Mugu Rock and the distant Channel Islands from the beach, and campers can also hit the nearby trailhead for hiking.

Thornhill Broome's pet-friendly tent and RV sites have picnic tables, fire pits, and vault toilets, but the campground is fairly primitive with no hookups or showers. The park's Sycamore Canyon Campground offers a dump station, but that campground's hot showers are reserve for Sycamore Canyon campers only. Campers should consider bringing a wind-proof shade structure, as Thornhill Broome campsites offer little shade.

Tips for Snagging a Campsite Reservation

  • All campsites at Thornhill Broome Campground are reservable 6 months in advance.
  • Sites can be reserved online or by calling 1-800-444-7275.
  • Thornhill Broome Campground is a popular destination during the summer and on weekends, so book well in advance for camping trips during these times.
  • When to Go

The Thornhill Broome Campground is a choice spot for summer camping, when highs in the 70s are typically much cooler than inland temperatures. Fall, winter, and spring camping is also good, but come prepared with cold weather gear for nighttime lows in the 40s. In winter and spring, you may be able to spot migrating whales right from camp.
