Weekend Trip to Madden Farm

Our campsite at Madden Farm was very well kept, quiet and beautiful. Our two young kids really loved looking at the chickens and playing with the dogs and kitten. We really enjoyed sitting at our campfire and listening to nothing but crickets. We plan to come back. Thanks for the wonderful hospitality!

Great little piece of land. It had lots of little things other places don’t have, like hammocks and floats for the creek. Access to the swimming hole and pebble beach are down some pretty steep embankments, but there are ropes there to pull yourself up, if you’re so inclined. The shelter over the picnic bench was nice too, though rain wasn’t a factor for me. I didn’t time it, but it’s about a 60-90 second walk from the parking area to the campsite. Carlos has a cart there for hauling your stuff to the site. Instead of making 4 trips carrying things, I made it in just one trip with the cart. Wanting peace and quiet on my solo trip, I was a little concerned about road noise due to the proximity to the road. It ended up being a non-issue for me, as the road was sparsely traveled during the day, and almost no overnight traffic (that I noticed!).

Weekend Trip to The McIntosh Pines

One of the best campsites we have been to so far. Back in the woods nestled on the side of a hill with a view of the ravine and creek. We loved that it was the only site on the property and was very private. Having a campsite stick out is hard because they are a lot of times very similar, but the large fire ring, trash bag lift, wood chopping logs, plenty of flat tent spots, and great view really make this place stand out. We can’t wait to come back and explore more. Thanks for hosting us

Campsites 29-30 are mostly shaded by the pines. Deer & turkey travel thru here. Located at the back corner near the woods & 34 acres of hiking trails.

The owner was marvelous. You could just tell she wanted you to enjoy her space as much as she did. There was a pollinator garden (we need so many more of these), Monarchs everywhere, a trail through some woods, fire rings and a porta potty. What more do you need? Well apart from a tent. Will 100% stay again and 100% recommend if rustic is your bag.

Site 9 was absolutely serene. From the drive in all the way to the site. Peaceful, nostalgic, timeless. A beautiful spot away from the rest. I hung my hammock and just let go of the whole world. Plenty of room for the truck, tents if you had a few, and the picnic table was great to setup on. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed the large campsite and the peaceful environment at the Pleasant Valley Farm. We appreciated the availability of flush toilets and potable water in the barn, as well as having firewood for purchase. It was a good experience and we plan on returning again! Jim and his wife are friendly, welcoming, and helpful hosts!

There is nothing not to love about #5 Woodside at Pleasant Valley Farm! Jim was there to greet us, even though we arrived near dark. Firewood was offered, directions to the site were given, and the signage was clear but unobtrusive. Once at #5 Woodside, we gazed upon a small meadow ringed in trees, featuring natural beauty and seclusion, along with a picnic table, a stone fire ring, and a perfect spot for our pop-up. The Saturday walkabout revealed old farm buildings, a lovely, large pond, and walking paths deep into the trees. It was a near-perfect day cooled by an evening shower. I hesitate to let all you Hipcampers know how nice this place is for fear that I will not be able to get it again. If you are in the Mansfield, Lucas, Lexington, Ohio area looking for a peaceful camp away from the state park, this is it.

This campsite is GORGEOUS. Acres of land to wander, multiple great sites for hammocks and tents. Incredibly secluded, far from the owners' house and tons of trees for privacy. The stream was mostly dry thanks to the recent drought, but we still managed to get water for emergency fire extinguishing. There were a couple benches, a good table, a really nice fire ring, and even a little shovel (the site is truly primitive, you might need that shovel). We could hear Route 62, but it was quiet overnight and the sleeping was excellent. 10/10 will book again!

Beautiful location and quiet (with the exception of the Canadian geese that landed on the pond at 11pm). Scenic and well maintained. Richard and Ruby (their retriever) were very nice and quick to respond on Hipcamp. I don't think there was a bad site to camp, trails for hiking, not too far out of town but far enough to be secluded. Can't wait to go out again!

We had a great time on our stay to celebrate a night away from the kids for my husband's birthday. From the late night s'mores to the early morning fresh farm eggs we enjoyed the ambiance of camping with modern comfort. The air conditioned dome was great for an uncharacteristically hot September night and we enjoyed a quiet night away from the kids under the stars.

The Flying J Farm is 250 beautiful rolling acres including 100 acres of forest, 6-acre lake small pond, three streams, and numerous fields for crops and pastures with cows. The owner bought the farm in 1998 for his retirement from a faculty position at the Ohio State university. Two buildings, the farm house and old barn, are original dating back to 1831. These have been restored for current use. The mission of the farm is to restore health both in people though the products produced and in the land by farming in a sustainable way with no conventional chemicals, antibiotics, and use of GMO. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables. The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner. Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures). Trash. This sustainable farm has no garbage hauling, please carry away your trash.

Our family oriented outdoor recreation facility offers primitive camping, PYO produce during the growing season, homesteading activities & nature-based programs. The peaceful 20-acre country farm has food gardens, a frog habitat pool, a barnyard for the chickens & ducks, a bluegill fishin' pond, a pollinator maze, a prairie garden, and an outdoor stage. After crossing a winding creek into 10 acres of woods, you may see deer, turkey, fox, coyote, mink, eagles & barred owls. In early spring, the peepers are peeping, wildflowers are abundant & the vernal pools welcome the wood frogs, salamanders and fairy shrimp. Summer brings on the bullfrogs, butterflies, dragonflies and fireflies. Fall is a great time to pull grapevine to make wreaths & to build stick forts in the woods. We cater to the tent camper so that we can hear frogs & owls instead of generators. But, there is an RV section up front for those with quiet generators with several feet of gravel under the grass to hold the weight of your camper. We charge by the carload & there are different rates for driving back toward the woods for camping depending on the number of wheels & the weight of your vehicle (a factor on the wear & tear on the land). We believe in going outside to play, growing & eating fresh food, strengthening family bonds and promoting the awareness of our natural resources. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: 1) The speed limit is 5 mph as soon as you enter the property (kids & dogs are quick to dart in front of you). 2) As a state registered campground, it is mandatory that you check in at the house to fill out a Registration Form before heading to your campsite. 3) No glass allowed anywhere on the property (we don't want our feet or paws cut open and can do without flat tires). 4) Children under 18 must be attended to at all times for their safety (the frog pool is 10' deep, the pond is 8-10' deep depending on rains, and the creek can turn into a churning river). Grocery stores and restaurants are nearby, with a gas station and mini market just half a mile down the road. Columbus city center is about a 45–50 minute drive. The drive here follows scenic country roads, so please be mindful of winding turns and local wildlife along the way. While visiting, you may hear or see our chickens and pups, though they stay close to the house.

Dogs are harmless but do bark when they do not know you... City of Springfield is less than three miles away. A Sheets and Loves Truckstop are 300 yards away with the Loves having a dump station. Next door to this property is a BP Station and Carryout. The Loves Truckstop has a Wendys, Subway, and dog park. Sheets also has a food court. All within walking distance. Great location as Columbus is 30 min to the east, Dayton is 25 min to the west. 13 min to I 675 and 20 min to Interstate 75 N/S. I 71 N/S Columbus is 35 min away in downtown Columbus... NOTE: Little over a quarter of a mile off of Interstate 70, and on a State Route, If looking for absolute silence and desolation, this is not for you. Back off of the road but all the sounds carry.....
