With no camping permitted at Anakie Gorge, our property gives you a tranquil overnight stay in direct proximity for an early start to the Anakie Gorge Walk without having to drive home at the end of the day. Choose from 3 carefully selected camp sites and set up base camp to enjoy day trips exploring the local wineries, such as del Rios, walking and cycling trails of the You Yangs State Park, and Serendip Wildlife Sanctuary, or as a convenient overnight stop on your way to explore the Great Ocean Road The camping area is easily accessed from maintained roads, where guests can drive in and park on the spacious lower paddock (no reversing or 3-point-turns necessary). As this beautiful, secluded location is off-grid, guests will need to be Self Contained (BYO toilet/shower) and Leave No Trace. If you would like to enjoy our property all to yourself, simply book two of the campsites, and send us a message and we will happily reserve the 3rd campsite for your group free of charge. Due to our immediate proximity to farms and the Brisbane Ranges National Park the following are strictly NOT permitted: dogs, cats, pets, drones. Strictly NO fires, NO firearms, NO hunting permitted. Fire Danger Period – CURRENT to 1st of May 2024. We are currently in the Fire Danger Period, which means there are restrictions on what people legally can and can’t do with regard to outdoor fires (campfires, camp cooking, fires, BBQs, stoves) or anything that may produce a spark; campers may want to bring food/drink that doesn't require cooking or heating, or use the BBQs at the Anakie Gorge Picnic area IF conditions allow this. For specifics of what people are legally allowed to do or not do with regard to open air fires/cooking etc please read the information on the CFA Victoria website for fire warnings, fire bans ratings and restrictions and the "Can I? Can't I?" section for the Central region. Total Fire Ban Days: On total fire ban days strictly NO flames or sparks, no exceptions. For the safety of our guests, bookings falling on Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating days will be cancelled and campers will be reimbursed. Severe Weather and Bushfire: Please make yourself aware of bushfire or other severe weather warnings (e.g. ABC Emergency or Emergency Victoria) for UP-TO-DATE information, especially during the fire danger period. Safety and Hazards: You are responsible for your own safety and the safety of those in your care. Hazards to be aware of: snakes, uneven ground, trees or loose/falling limbs (it is your responsibility to set up your camp in an area you deem free of hazards). Flash flooding of Stony Creek (this is rare, however, please observe weather warnings at the time of camping). Please make yourself aware of bushfire or other severe weather warnings (e.g. ABC Emergency or Emergency Victoria) for UP-TO-DATE information, especially during the fire danger period. On Total Fire Ban days strictly NO flames or sparks, no exceptions. Other things to be aware of: No mobile phone reception. You might achieve some mobile phone reception if you head back up Gorge Road to Staughton Vale Road, though this is dependent on your mobile phone provider and cannot be guaranteed. Excellent Trout Fishing in large dams on property. Rainbow and Brown trout stocked in both dams. Good sized fish. Old , Rustic Bush Hut at main campsite which has verandah, wooden floor, and can be used for sleeping in or as general purpose area. Excellent yabby dams on property for the kids and adults who want to do some yabbying. Also eels in a another couple of dams on property, so it certainly has something for all anglers. 550 acre property which has 3 different seasonal creeks flowing through it. Six excellent hideaway Camping sites to choose from. Some close to the water. Large sites which can handle 40 campers per site. Good areas of bushland and also a working sheep farm. Very private areas for camping. Campfires available but only in months when fire restrictions are not in force. A wide range of birdlife and duck life, wildlife including kangaroos, possums, echidnas. In wet weather you may need a 4 wheel drive vechile to access some of the sites. You will need to bring all your camping gear as these are tent and vechile sites only. We dont have any huts at this stage. 30 minute drive to Ballarat, 45 Min Geelong, 2 minutes drive to the village of Elaine and The Farmgate Shop which is open 7 days a week with a full range of all groceries, bbq needs, drinks, snacks, etc. 5 minutes to dollys creek, 5 minutes to Mt Doran/Lal Lal, 10 minutes to Meredith. Its a hidden gem. We are happy to take your booking. Sorry strictly no dogs allowed.

It was an over grown mess at the time, covered in broken bricks and beer cans. We've tried to keep the bush aspect while creating a park like surround with plenty of grassy space. We have big plans for our land and hope to build a steam museum in our other area over the creek. Excitingly, we will also be establishing a blacksmiths forge in that area, which was moved piece by piece from an historic farm at Avoca. Chris is an engineer, antique restorer and artisan working from home. I am an actor and artist working in metal, clay and paint. I'm inspired by my flower garden and the bush that frames it. There is Barwon Park Mansion, owned by the National Trust nearby that you can take a peek through or enjoy the river walks in the town center, less than 2km away. Shops, including a supermarket, are in town if you forgot something. There are also some collectable shops you can visit. If you are trying to book and have difficulties, try instant booking. About

Just a 1.5-hour drive from Melbourne CBD, the Brisbane Ranges National Park provides an idyllic escape from city life. Go bushwalking through rocky gullies and forested gorges, gaze out over sweeping foothills speckled with wildflowers, and spot kangaroos, birds, and koalas—the park has Victoria’s highest concentration of wild koalas. The three-day Burchell Trail is a highlight for hikers, while scenic drives and picnic areas are dotted throughout. Campers can choose between the park’s two campgrounds, both of which have pit toilets, tank water, and campsites suitable for tents, caravans, and camper trailers.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for caravans: Fridays campground has ten unpowered sites (two suitable for camper trailers/caravans), with firepits and picnic tables at one of the Burchell trailheads.
  • Best for nature lovers: Boar Gully Campground has seven unpowered sites (one suitable for camper trailers) close to the wildflower viewpoints.
  • Best for backpackers: Burchell Trail Camping offers two hike-in bush campsites along the Burchell Trail, with pit toilets, BBQs, and tank water.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Advance bookings are required for all campgrounds, including the bushwalker-only sites along the Burchell Trail.
  2. You can book online via the Parks Victoria website up to six months in advance. 
  3. Campsites can book up fast during peak season (December-Feb), especially over weekends and school holidays. Book at least three months in advance to avoid disappointment.

When to go

Spring is the most scenic time to explore the national park, when colourful displays of wildflowers bloom throughout the mountain valleys. Summer temperatures can get hot for bushwalkers, so plan hikes for early in the day—the hours after sunrise or around dusk are typically the best time for wildlife watching, too.

Know before you go

  • There are two entry points to Brisbane Ranges National Park—along Glenmore Road at the north of the park or along Granite Road at the south end of the park. The closest town is Meredith, where you’ll find a gas station, general store, and cafés.
  • There is no admission fee for Brisbane Ranges National Park, but camping fees apply.
  • Park facilities include toilets, picnic areas, and BBQs. Bring everything you need with you, including drinking water.
  • Partial or total fire bans are often introduced during the summer months. The risk of bushfires is severe, so keep an eye on the park website and always follow the latest guidelines.
  • There are accessible toilets, campsites, and picnic areas at the national park, and a TrailRider all-terrain wheelchair is also available (advance booking required).

Excellent walking but completely dry, save for tapwater in the scattered picnic spots (and perhaps camping areas, though I'm not sure). Plenty of unique wildlife: I spotted a few birds I've never seen before, a lot of trapdoors at night and possibly two reintroduced long nosed potoroos during the day. Also rock wallabies at dawn and dusk. Overall a very peaceful vibe, notwithstanding the odd human local who sets out to ruin it.
