Rocky River Play Station is a large, working bush property on the banks of the Timbarra River, about 20 km / 30 minutes south of Drake Village — an old gold-mining community tucked into the NSW Northern Rivers hinterland. This is a place for slowing down, getting muddy, swimming in rivers, watching light change across the hills, and sharing space with wildlife and our resident cows.
Your hosts live further back on the property. We’re close enough to help if needed, but far enough away that you’ll feel properly off-grid.
There is no mobile reception, which many guests find is part of the magic. If you’re craving real disconnection, you’ll find it here.
This is a leave-no-trace property:
- There are no bins — please take all rubbish with you when you leave.
- Campfires are welcome when there is no fire ban. Bring your own firewood, or collect some here.
- Facilities vary by site — please check individual listings carefully and come prepared.
Pets may be possible by request. We love visiting animals, but we also protect local wildlife and our calm, grass-powered lawnmowers (the cows), so approval is on a case-by-case basis.
Rocky River Play Station is also home to evolving creative projects, small gatherings, and the Brushtales Arts Residency. Some guests come to rest, some to create, some to gather — all are welcome, provided you’re comfortable with a living, breathing place that continues to grow.

Campers are encouraged to meander along the continually changing River and explore its many secluded swimming holes and enjoy the abundant wildlife that cohabitates with the Angus/Wagyu cow herd. Direct access to the neighbouring National Parks and State Forests offers an array of day trips to hikers, mountain bikers, or horse riders where they can discover the natural treasures of Basket Swamp and Boonoo Boonoo Falls, Woolool Woolooni, among others.
For those who require a little more comfort, and lets face it we all do at times, the Mindoo Cabin is available. Featuring three bedrooms, open plan living/dining/kitchen,and a shady deck overlooking the River the cabin sleeps eight and still allows visitors to partake in all the adventures that "Mindoo" offers with the benefit of a comfortable rest when the day is done.
Unfortunately horse riding is no longer covered by our insurance policy. You are able to bring your horses, however evidence of your own insurance policy must be provided.
Be as adventurous or as restful as you please as both options are freely available. Mountain Biking, Hiking, or just riding your hammock and relaxing we are sure you will enjoy your time at "Mindoo". All of our river sites are designated and are space apart.
As most of our sites are on the river and have farm tracks to access, if it is wet we may have to move you to a different site. 4wds are recommended for all sites and are required for some site. Please read the listing for the campsite you are wanting to book. Some of our sites do not suit caravans. All roads require high clearance vans.
If you do not like dogs or your own dogs are not very sociable Mindoo may not be the place for you. Daisy the Doodle (Golden Retriever/Poodle) and Paul the Pig Dog (a very gentle Bull Mastif/Catahoula) like to come and say hello to campers at The Park & The Junction.

Branch Creek forms the southern boundary of the property while Tenterfield Creek is the western boundary. The property has a number of granite ridges.
There are many popular wineries in the region, while Tenterfield has some great cafes and pubs, excellent shopping and is home to the Tenterfield saddler. For nature lovers and bushwalkers, Boonoo Boonoo and Bald Rock National Parks are a short drive up Mt Lindesay Road.
Camping areas are accessible by a normal sedan type vehicle. We want our property to provide a peaceful retreat for those using it: - no hunting, motorbikes or 4WDing permitted.
We are an off grid location so campers will need to bring their own shower/toilet/water and take all rubbish out when leaving.

One of the best destinations for hiking, camping, bushwalking, swimming, Kayaking, fishing, mountain bike riding (bicycles only), bird watching, 4wdriving and even fossicking, since the old gold mining town "Lunatics" was not far away from us.
Dogs, men's best friend, are definitely welcome. But if your dog is not friendly will have to be on a leash.
If travelling in a 2wd please contact us before booking, some of the campgrounds have to be reached by crossing the creeks, Girard camp is one of them where the office and the showers are, at times this crossing is under water and is only accessible by 4wd. Other campgrounds are available near the entry gate that don't require a creek crossing for access and toilets are available on some of them.
One side of the property is bound by Emu Creek and the other by Girard Creek, both creeks have enough water with some permanent deep water holes for all year activities.
Sightseeing inside the property we have Girard Falls, a 50m deep waterfall, nature at it's best.
The only entry into the property is by Emu Creek Rd a gravel road.
Emu Creek Retreat is located in the far north-east of New South Wales. We are approximately 200 km from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Gold Coast, 150km from Byron Bay. Tabulam is the nearest town 12km away.
Fuel and groceries are available at Tabulam along with a post office, pub and police station. Casino is 68km away and Tenterfield 78km.
Once a working cattle property, in the 90's was converted into a camping and 4WD park. Since 2017 has been a family own and operated property, pet friendly, we are using the existing large camping grounds to convert it into a camping paradise.
Two properties combined with close to 2800 acres, fronting Paddy’s Flat Rd for 2km and extends 7km to the back fence bordering a 22000 acre cattle property.
The front section is undulating with plantation forest (spotted gum) and bushland, towards the back it has mountains, steep terrain and millions of trees with spectacular views and great hiking tracks.

The Timbarra or Rocky River is an area
of great beauty
southeast of Tenterfield with soaring mountains cradling the river flats and undulating hills below and
is a renowned cattle breeding region.
The Petrie family have been in Tenterfield since 1860 and have owned
properties
in the valley for over 100 years.
Tim’s great-grandfather was known as Rocky Jack because of his extensive holdings.
Cattle are still walked up to the Timbarra Plateau property from the river properties
‘Man From Snowy River’ style.
The Plateau can be seen rising above the valley to the north from the confluence of Demon Creek and the Timbarra/Rocky River.
These flow along the Demon Fault which is clearly visible on a satellite map.
The 3 valley properties ‘Corner Camp’, ‘Boundary’ and ‘’Pavels’ combined with ‘Timbarra Plateau’ total over 25000 acres.
The whole valley was part of 2 earlier large selections averaging 100000 acres
which gradually became broken up in the late 1800s/early 1990s. There is a proud timber history in the valley and the surrounding forested mountains with large sections of State Forest now transferred to
Washpool National Park which abuts both the eastern and western boundaries of ‘Boundary’ (which takes its name from Boundary Creek).
The National Park and Forestland State Forest can be accessed to the west via the Billirimba Fire Trail.
The eastern section of Washpool
stretches across to the Clarence River, the largest eastern river in NSW. Washpool
is where the Cedar King went missing and was never located.
The Timbarra/Rocky River flows into the Clarence at Tabulam and then on to Grafton and out to sea at Yamba. The headwaters of the Rocky are all the way south to the Glen Innes Grafton road so the river can rise quickly if there is a downpour upstream.
Interestingly when
the Chinese gold
miners left the Timbarra Plateau they came down with rickshaws into the Timbarra Valley then scaled the mountains to the west, near Boundary Creek, looking for their next gold diggings towards Glen Innes. The Boundary campsites at Boundary Riverside, The Cockatoo, The China Wall, and the Caves are all suitable for caravans, RVs, Camping trailers, tents and swags as is Timbarra Plateau.
Corner Camp and Pavels are suitable for camping trailers, tents and swags.
Boundary campsites access are all unaffected if the river rises however we will not take bookings at Corner Camp or Pavels in the likelihood of the river rising as we are committed to safety and avoiding inconvenience for guests.
The Rocky is a very special place and we have campers who first came as children and are now bringing their grandchildren.
We expect our guests to treat the area respectfully, and only leave footprints and tyre tracks.
The
valley provides wonderful scenery and settings for bushwalking, birdwatching, photography, painting, bicycle riding,
swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding
and canoeing,
or just kicking back
relaxing by the river, listening to the soothing sounds of the water, birds, and the turtles and platypus splashing,
or being amazed at the mirror like images on the waters surface on a still day or the flickering light of a campfire at night and the stars above.

Lucky’s Ridge is a 120acres property of bush, heavily timbered with straight eucalyptus, situated north NSW, near Tabulam, at the foot of great dividing range. It’s subtropical (summer rain, dry winter usually, no frost).
The primitive campgrounds have two compost toilets and two wood fired hot showers. Camp kitchen has a wood stove/oven, kitchen sink and benches (no fridge). All water taps are on rain water. There is a herb/veggies garden guest are welcome to pick from. Please be aware that there is only 12v power available (usb charging station), and Telstra reception is there but just and Optus is patchy.
I have friendly dairy goats, sheep, cows, pigs and horses roaming on the property, maintaining the grass short and fertilised (watch for the poop!), and chickens, duck and rabbits, all mostly free range in the Permaculture garden and orchards near the house. I'm into homesteading, and I grow and raise (and butcher) most of my food.
I enjoy sharing my land and experience with others, so I’ve recently had a primitive campground approved and open. It was mostly to host seasonal self reliant backpackers coming to pick blueberries at Mountain Blue, so it offers a bit more than just a place to camp, but it stays rather rustic. I’m also keen to host people interested in off grid living and sustainability or whoever wants to come and camp in this quiet, not crowded at all part of the bush. Hipcampers please be aware that from August til December, backpackers may be living at the campgrounds.
If you are interested in a garden tour, feeding the animals, milking the goats and/or pony rides, please let me know in advance.
We also have some mountain bike trails (jumps, etc) for keen riders (work in progress).

Bajimba Eco Camp is part of our stunning family property nestled in the surrounds of Mt Bajimba in the Northern Tablelands of NSW, 40 minutes south east of Tenterfield.
Historically known as a resting point for bullock teams hauling timber from the surrounding forests on their way to a saw mill in the lower valley, Bajimba is now home to Merv & Carey. We are just over 1080 metres above sea level, with 57 acres of eucalypt & grass tree forests, grass pastures, and a small (but mighty) organic farm.
Accommodation options include "West View “situated at our highest elevation with incredible views from the deck, and "Bullock Camp" which can accommodate tents, caravans or motor homes.
When making travel arrangements, note we are in NSW and therefore are 1 hour ahead of QLD during day light savings months. It is encouraged if possible that guests arrive before 6pm to ensure a smooth and stress free check in to camp. Being able to experience the sunset is all a part of your Bajimba stay!
Amenities for both sites include an ablution block with hot shower and composting toilet, with steam sauna and wood-fired hot tub available by appointment. Please call at time of booking if hot tub and sauna facilities are required (especially for same-days bookings). Wood fired hot tubs require four hours to heat appropriately. Also note that all toiletries are provided to ensure that our critical farm ecosystem is maintained.
When staying at “West View”, we supply Tea, Coffee, Muesli, Full Cream Milk, fresh Eggs from our Hens, Salt & Pepper, Olive Oil, Cast Iron cook ware and a portable sink for cleaning Utensils etc. Also supplied are Plates, Knives & Forks etc. Portable Gas Cooker also supplied if not using the Fire Pit.

What a hidden gem of a place. We absolutely loved our stay at the cabin, from the moment we arrived we enjoyed every second. It’s such a private, peaceful spot and the scenery and river were simply magnificent. Both kids and adults had a blast spending the whole day in the river. For off-grid campers we were spoiled and appreciated the hot shower, flushing toilet and water for washing up. Jess was lovely and took the time to come and meet us, bringing some lucerne for the cows. We were also lucky enough to have a resident peacock visit who clearly loved his watermelon treat. So sad to leave and we can’t wait to return.

3 nights at Rocky River Play Station
Really great cabin in an even better location! My partner and I loved our stay in the cabin. There was plenty of space inside with everything you need and we felt very secluded with lots of privacy. There was cows roaming around which you could feed and a beautiful peacock walking about. The property has plenty lots to offer and explore with a walking trail we found and an unbelievable creek which was great for a swim and to explore. Jess was super helpful and friendly too and even checked in on us when a storm rolled through. Would highly recommend!

Great stay as always. Friendly hosts and immaculate grounds. As a bonus for us (less for the owners) there were few other campers when we were there, allowed us to appreciate the peace and tranquility of camping by the Clarence River.

Great place to camp. Hosts were very friendly and with a large number of sites to choose from. Shower and toilet facilities were also great. The river itself is picturesque and kid friendly if you are with them with lots to explore.

1 night at Eden Vale Shearing Shed Camp
This was an epic stay with a cozy fire, everything you could want in the kitchen, a cool river crossing and cows to spend time staring at. Wished we booked more than one night. Everything was super clean and well cared for, only oversight on our behalf was that there wasn’t any reception for internet connection but we didn’t mind we spent the night playing board games by the fire

Surrounded by granite boulders, thick bush and uninterrupted sounds of nature. Absolutely loved our stay here, could not recommend this camp more. Jodie and Rik, our hosts, were so warm and welcoming, always attentive and caring, even helped fix our car without hesitation, bloody legends. Short drive to Bald Rock NP and to Tenterfield. Will stay again next time we are in the area. Thanks Jodie and Rik <3

Hands down best place we have stayed.
Camping here was sensational, very spaced out from other campers so the privacy was great, amenities are spot on and now with the potable water makes it even better as you have drinking water on tap! The slide Ben and Grace have set up for the kids is fantastic, they had a tonne of fun. We explored some of the 4wd tracks around the property which was awesome and also took advantage of the pristine Clarence River water to have a swim and a fish. Overall rating is 15/10 we will definitely be returning in the future. To top ot all off the hosts Ben and Grace were fantastic, friendly and super easy going making our stay even more welcome. 100% will recommend.

A beautiful part of the world and what Steve and Sharon have created is wonderful. The camp kitchens are so well kitted out, there are toilets and hot showers and solar power and everything is so clean.
Beautiful river site and canoes to use as well. It was such a relaxing 4 days we had there and so peaceful.

Ben’s campsite at OTCC is excellent! There are many spots with elevated views of the beautiful Clarence river and additional very spacious sites in the fields back from the river. The amenities are great - clean, functional and well maintained. We understand some upgrades are due early in 2026 too so that is exciting.
We spent our time swimming in the river, collecting firewood for our evening campfire, 4x4 driving including a trip to stunning Finger Rocks and having a blast on the Bush slide when it was running! Thanks so much Ben for your hospitality and making OTCC such an amazing destination. We are already looking for a time to come back and we will be bringing friends!

The views here are stunning. The land to camp on is nice and flat with access to the Rocky River. Colin the steer number 110 is a bit cheeky he'll eat your charcoal from your camp fire in the morning. BYO your everything for an off grid experience and relax.
