In the heart of the Smoky Mountains surrounded by Cherokee National Forest lies Standing Bear Farm, a turn of the century multi-generational farmstead including the original homestead, barns, outbuildings and farmhouse. The outbuildings have now been converted to a bunkhouse and cabin where we offer rustic lodging to hikers and others interested in stepping back from today's hectic lifestyle to a time in America's past when life in rural back-country Appalachia was considered the "good life". Road closure notice in the wake of hurricane Helene: PLEASE READ! Currently, we are accessible by road only via I40 East. You take Waterville Road Exit 451 and go underneath the interstate and up the gravel road (going around the road closed signs) to our hostel which is the first building on said road. We hope that I40 will open back up here soon with two lanes going in either direction, but as of now we do not know when that will be (though we hope soon!). We will post updates on our webpage and Facebook as we learn more and look forward to seeing everyone's smiling faces during the 2025 hiking season! We are first-come, first-served in Northbound thru hiking season (March 15 through May 15), however, reservations are available at all other times of the year by contacting us via phone 4234870014 (Call) or 4236080149 (Call or Text). Hike or drive-in. Business hours: 8am-8pm. Open year round and on holidays. Call ahead if arriving early in the morning or late at night. We offer shuttles to various locations on and off the trail. Please call or text us for prices and scheduling or you may email to get a price quote. Price varies based on party size, distance, and road conditions and closures. Give us a call to inquire about our kenneling and shuttle service for your furry friends that are not allowed in the GSMNP. We have trail-foods and ready-to-make foods available on site for all your hiking needs. We also have a camp fuel for sale as well as toiletries and other trail essentials. Restock on essential food items to get you on to Hot Springs (northbound) or through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (southbound). We also have items to cook on hand such as pizzas, burgers, and much more! Looking to quench the thirst built over many hard trodden

The perfect Smoky Mtn getaway
I feel so lucky to stumbled across this place. It was so peaceful and served it’s purposeful as a Smoky mtn place of rest. I spent two days in the creek house, reading, listening to the stream run under my room, and watching the summer thunder storms roll through. Maria has created a very special sanctuary that is so unique and has very cool design and layout. It’s family vibes where you can socialize and eat on Maria’s porch which I loved. The food was great and all of the amenities made my stay a joy!

Hit the spot!
Beautiful, well maintained hostel/campground that caters to hikers on the AP. Rolled in on a motorbike for one night and had the best time meeting the staff and hikers. Hospitality was top notch and paid extra for a meal cooked by staff that was healthy and hearty! Highly recommended if you are in the area!!!

Smokehouse in the Smokies
I absolutely loved Standing Bear! Maria and her staff are beyond kind and helpful, and the land is gorgeous. It is a little mountain paradise. I stayed an extra night because it was so wonderful. This place isn’t for everyone but it’s definitely for me. The communal kitchen, laundry, and fire pit were great, and I was so comfortable in the little smokehouse cabin on the creek. Very cozy annd private, and a fan kept it cool in the summer heat. Thanks for everything. I hope to come back again soon. ❤️
