Bristol Woods Yurt

1 site · Lodging13 acres · Bristol, VT
Our cozy yurt is located within minutes of amazing hiking, biking, breweries and much more! Sit around the campfire while listening to our resident owls or stare up at the stars through the dome. Our yurt has a loft where you can climb the ladder to a queen-sized bed. Or you can sleep on the full-sized futon on the main floor. We closed in half of the area under the loft for the bathroom, including a flush toilet, sink and shower. Please note there is a folding privacy screen but no door to the bathroom. The yurt has a small kitchen with a small refrigerator, toaster oven, coffeemaker, double cooktop, sink, pots, pans dishware and silverware. In colder weather the space is heated with a Rinai propane heater. The whole yurt is yours to use as well as the associated porch/outdoor space and firepit. Wood-fired sauna (Available if we're around during your stay. Please let us know if you're interested when you book and then coordinate timing when you arrive. No guarantees however...) Did I mention that our property abuts the 4,000 acre Bristol Cliffs Wilderness Area? Notch Brook and the New Haven River, which are just down the road from us, provide ample fishing and swimming opportunities. Are you interested in sampling Vermont’s famous brews, wines and spirits? We’re 5 minutes from the Bobcat Cafe and 15 minutes from Middlebury where you’ll find Otter Creek Brewery, Lincoln Peak Vineyard and other breweries and distilleries. Are you curious about how maple syrup is made? We’d be happy to give you a tour of our 750 tap sugaring operation and samples of our syrup, candy and other maple confections. Please note that the Yurt is about seventy five feet from our house on a working tree farm in a rural - residential neighborhood. We are generally very quiet and you will have all the privacy you desire. We do have a young daughter that likes to play outside in our yard, we do occasionally run tools and equipment and there is occasional road noise. If you are looking for a true wilderness type experience away from it all, this likely isn't the best option for you.

Scott’s Summit

1 site · Lodging42 acres · Elizabethtown, NY
This property is part of an original hundred acre woods in the Adirondack Park overlooking Lincoln Pond. My grandfather moved an old ice house under the property in 1943 and built the existing camp in 1949. Her family lives in Florida and has continued to maintain and improve the old camp for the last 40 years. After having done selective logging two years ago we discovered a spot in the back of the property overlooking the pond and with the removal of a couple of trees have a beautiful view of Lincoln Pond. The deck with the Yurt is the beginning of an eventual cabin. I live in the main house from late May until late October and decided to share it with like minded nature loving folks. It’s a 1/2 mile hike from the parking lot with total privacy.Learn more about this land:Located on top of a hill on a 100 acre wildlife sanctuary overlooking Lincoln Pond and the Adirondack High Peaks. Private Yurt on wooden deck with solar shower and water pumped up from nearby creek. Access from parking area over old logging road by SUV or ATV or a 12 minute hike from the parking area. 15 minute drive to numerous Adirondack hiking trails. Enjoy starry nights with a Biolite Bonfire. Two twin air beds and one king air bed. Bring your sleeping bags. Glamping at its best!

Private 4 Season Yurt Close to Town

1 site · Lodging3 acres · Montpelier, VT
Our clean, spacious yurt is a unique retreat that guests love in any season. Perfect for the outdoor enthusiast, we are in the country yet just ten minutes to Montpelier and the interstate. Aa beautiful stop on picturesque country roads, and just a short drive to hundreds of miles of trails. Nearby historic sites, boutique shops, and delicious restaurants make your time in Vermont memorable. We are booked nearly year-round: snag your spot now. The yurt is nestled in a private space with fields and forests out the door. If privacy is what you are seeking, look no further. Our house is on the property, but you have your own path to get to the yurt, and cannot see our house. Enjoy morning coffee on the Aidrondack glider, get a good night's rest in a queen-sized bed with beautiful linens, or relax in the loveseat by a crakcling fire. A microwave, electric kettle, coffeemaker, and small fridge/freezer make it easy to prep a meal and heat up leftovers. People love the break from cooking. You are also welcome to use a campstove outside in a covered area with a table. We provide potable drinking water, as well as fair-trade coffee and tea. Inside the yurt there is a handwash station. The yurt does not have indoor plumbing. Guests use a beautiful composting toilet just steps from the yurt, constructed in 2022 and during the warmer months an outdoor sink with potable water. East Montpelier is home to nearly 15 miles of walking trails through rolling farmland and forest. Camel's Hump, Mount Hunger and Mt. Mansfield are all within a half 45 minute drive. The local parks department maintains lovely ski trails with panoramic views, and nearby ponds offer wonderful spots for swimming and boating. If you love life on two wheels, treat yourself to the miles of dirt roads and nearby mountain biking trails. I'm an avid outdoorswoman and will happily point you and your adventurous spirit to the best spots in the area! In addition to being close to several state parks (Little River, Groton, Camel's Hump and Mount Mansfield), East Montpelier hosts a dozen miles of walking trails through woods and fields. Montpelier maintains miles of trails behind the state capitol, along the North Branch River and in fields and forests just minutes away. Part of the charm of a yurt is that you are close to nature. Plenty of natural light pours in, you can hear the birds, and enjoy rustling of leaves. In the spring and fall, evenings can be cool, so you may want to make a small fire in the woodstove to take off the chill. In the winter, we start the fire for you so it's warm when you arrive, and give you clear directions on how to keep the fire going throughout your stay. There is plenty of wood for your use.

Cozy Yurt At Wild Earth Farm

1 site · Lodging143 acres · Randolph Center, VT
Welcome to glamping, aka glorified camping. The yurt is a wonderful and very fancy tent. It's for adventurous spirits who like a little comfort. **The yurt is self-serve. We want to provide an affordable and special experience and have the below guidelines:** 1. Bring your own Queen sheets. A duvet is provided 2. Bring your own towels 3. If you leave dirty dishes, a mess, or don't give the place a quick vacuum, you'll be charged a $30 cleaning fee. Come live the simple life in Vermont at Wild Earth Farm. But with a hot shower and a memory foam mattress. Our 14 foot yurt is a tiny oasis from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Your door looks out over the edge of one of our pastures where you might see our organic cow herd or Icelandic sheep flock grazing. Soak in the sunset from the fire pit and watch the sky come alive with stars. The Wild Earth Yurt is 14 feet in diameter and offers a queen sized memory foam mattress, two cozy chairs, and a bench to place your things. There is one spare outlet for charging electronics. Location: 1. Two miles of Rt 89 2. 9 mins to Randolph with restaurants, cafes, and shops 3. 30 min to Montpelier, 1 hour to Burlington, 45 min to Woodstock 4. 23 min to our favorite restaurant of all time, Worthy Burger! Things to Do in the Area: 1. Our town of Randolph (9 min away) is a hidden gem with cute shops, cafes, and restaurants. Catch a movie at our adorable one-room movie theater. Real butter on the popcorn! 2. Take a class at White River Art Center 3. Get a maple creemee at Silloway Maple (1 mile away!) 4. Jump on the trail system at the back of our farm for a nice hike, snowshoe, or ski 5. Head to Montpelier for the best thai food in the world, or our favorite sourdough pizza. The heating is electric and keeps the yurt quite warm down to about 10 degrees outside. We recommend bringing a nice wool sweater if you run on the cold side. The kitchen/bath house, about 40 steps from the yurt features a composting toilet, shower, sink, coffee maker, microwave, and fridge. BYO towels for the shower. The view from the fire pit is one of our very favorites on the farm. This is a fantastic place to use as base camp for adventures or to just come and fully relax for a few days. Yurts near Rochester guide

Overview

Rochester is a small town in central Vermont situated at the base of the Green Mountains. The White River flows right through town, as it makes its way to the Connecticut River as its longest undammed tributary. Despite its small population, Rochester has a thriving arts and culture scene with several galleries, frequent festivals and concerts, and a theatre company. Rochester’s proximity to camping, hiking, and biking trails in the Green Mountain National Forest and several ski areas makes it a great basecamp for outdoor adventures.

Where to go

Moosalamoo National Recreation Area

Nestled into the western slope of the Green Mountains just twenty minutes from Rochester, the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area offers hiking and mountain biking trails, several camping areas, and plenty of scenic views. The area’s highlight is the Robert Frost Trail, an interpretive trail that commemorates Robert Frost’s poetry and introduces hikers to the area's landscape.

Chittenden Reservoir

The Chittenden Reservoir is tucked into the Green Mountain National Forest about 45 minutes from Rochester. This pristine lake is a popular spot for motor boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and swimming. There’s also several miles of trails around the lake for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snow-shoeing adventures.

Branbury State Park

Located at the base of Mt. Moosalamoo, on the eastern shore of Lake Dunmore about 30 minutes west of Rochester, Branbury State Park is a great spot for boating, kayaking, fishing, and swimming. The park offers 36 campsites suitable for tents and trailers as well as seven lean-to sites for tent campers.

When to go

The Green Mountain National Forest surrounding Rochester, Vermont is open year-round. Summer is the best time for camping, hiking, and water sports as long as you come prepared for mosquitoes and other biting bugs. The Green Mountain National Forest is also one of the best places to see fall foliage in Vermont. The Lake Dunmore area is particularly pretty in fall and colors are best between late September and middle of October.

  1. Rochester has a small grocery store, a few restaurants, and a bike shop.
  2. Many national forest and state park campgrounds near Rochester offer advanced reservations online. Parks typically have a handful of sites on a first-come, first-served basis too.
