We are 9 miles from the mystical Glastonbury Abbey and Tor and directly on a Sustrans 33 cycle path route. We are on the Somerset levels so the sunsets are amazing as well as night time stargazing. We have a private, wooden jetty where you can launch your own paddle board. It’s a perfect get away for campers and nature lovers. Bring your own raised BBQs and logs or buy firewood on site. A family run campsite around 30 miles south of Bristol on the banks of the River Brue, it has a relaxed vibe and we try to keep things simple and straight forward. It’s ideal for doing some day trips nearby, then lighting the BBQ and playing Frisbee (games box you are most welcome to use). Our big sister site is just 4 miles away, and the café bar at 'Wall Eden Farm' serves fantastic coffee, cake, and family-made Somerset cider. I have always loved Sweet Hill Farm. It’s a lovely relaxed campsite with sea views and amazing walks nearby. Also, being able to have a camp fire is fantastic. The showers are brilliant too. The only disappointment for me this year is that the compost loos have been replaced with horrible portaloos! Please bring back compost loos, they are so much nicer!

brilliant place to stay, very relaxed there but if you need anything they was there. me and my partner stayed here with our 2 daughters and our dog and it was 100% one of the best places we have been to, great veiws, great facilities. all in all will 100% be staying again and maybe try the other cabins.

1 night at Sweet Hill Farm

This was my first time camping here and I will definitely return again. Whilst SatNav got me most of the way, the directions on Hipcamp made the last little bit of the journey much easier. I was welcomed warmly at the well-stocked little cafe, and given a map to show my how to get to the field I pitched in. The tracks on-site are full of large potholes - so definitely something to be mindful of, especially if you have extremely low-suspension on your car! However, take it slow and easy and all is well here. I had the most amazing view, from where I pitched up, over to Portland Bill lighthouse. Both sunset and sunrise were stunning. Facilities here are extremely basic - but it’s enough for those that simply need to get away from life for a while and sleep under the stars without all the creature comforts of home. Of course, there is a place for being able to have all the mod-cons available, but this is camping the way it should be done! I wasn’t here long enough to speak to any of the other campers, but everyone seemed relaxed and there was no loud music or anything played into the night, meaning I could drift to sleep easily enough at the end of the day. Thank you all.

Wow, Little Eden is exactly what it says it is. It has everything for a wonderful camping experience. You are totally emmersed in Nature. You can hear the wild life and birds around you. You can use a fire pit and sit outside under the stars, whilst keeping warm. The decor is beautiful, the facilities are great. Showers, toilets, washing machine, fridge and anything else you can think of. I would definitely recommend Little Eden to everyone. Thank you so much Andy, Emily 🙏

Absolutely beautiful spot, even better than the photos make out. Lesley showed us a more sheltered pitch and it was perfect. The walking straight from the site was amazing and the views from littlehangman down into the town were stunning. Paul provided us with a big bucket of logs and we kept the fire going for ages. Would 100% recommend :)

This was my first time ever camping and I had a great time at this site, it's the perfect mix of rural, real camping with local amenities near enough especially for someone doing camping for the first time. Located right near the coast, it's a beautiful view, excellent facilities including showers and cafe. The only downside is that when I did arrive in the evening there was no one to greet us, even though the cafe should've been open at that time but other than that no complaints, wonderful hosts and would definitely go again.

I found Qookey Farm Campsite by accident but liked the sound of not, being close to Wells and Glastonbury. It's quite a find. Each pitch is spacious, with its own power source and refuse collection point. Toilets are close by - the only downside? No shower facility. I'd recommend it to anyone..

My family and I stayed at this picturesque site for 2 weeks and we had an amazing time. Lesley and her husband Paul were wonderful hosts, always happy to chat and a fountain of knowledge about the area. They kept the facilities clean even over a busy bank holiday weekend. There were two flushing toilets and one portaloo (to save those at the top of the site from walking too far), two warm showers, washing up facilities and a lovely converted railway carriage that had electrical points and a fridge freezer. On the few days we had rain this carriage was a great space to eat or play board games. The site has outstanding views overlooking the valley with combe martin bay. Alongside it is a public footpath taking you to great hangman and further Exmoor trails. You can walk to combe martin from here but it is a steep hill back up so bear that in mind if you take a lot of stuff to the beach. Also being up so high you get the spectacular views but it can be windy on occasions so bear the weather in mind when choosing your spot (you are not assigned a specific position so you can move if the weather changes). What i really liked was that the site was not overcrowded even when fully booked as the hosts keep numbers low. This meant it was not noisy and you did not feel like you were on top of anyone. We would definitely come back here.

Where to go

South Devon AONB

Salcombe is within the South Devon AONB, which stretches along the coast between Plymouth and the River Dart. The attractive, protected area is renowned for its sandy beaches, rugged coastline, estuaries, patchwork farmland, and historic villages. Coastal walking trails and ferries link some towns, essential for walkers wanting to cross some of the estuaries. Salcombe is an ideal base for campers wanting to explore the AONB.

Dartmoor National Park

This large area of wild, open moorland, rare wildlife, and deep river valleys is a must-visit place for outdoor enthusiasts wanting a rugged adventure. Backpack camping is allowed in some areas of open moorland for one or two nights as part of long-distance walking expeditions, but this must be done out of sight or settlements or roads, and campers must follow Leave No Trace principles. Parking your campervan or caravan overnight isn’t allowed within Dartmoor National Park. There are designated sites for motorhomes.

Bodmin Moor AONB

Northwest of Salcombe and over the border in Cornwall, the large granite moorland of Bodmin Moor contains some of Cornwall’s highest peaks. Once densely populated in the Bronze Age, the bleak, heather-covered moorland contains archaeological sites today. It’s also still used as a grazing site for livestock. A highway runs through the moor, so it’s easy to visit on a day trip from Salcombe. Hiking and cycling trails through the area make camping closer to Bodmin Moor worthwhile.

When to go

As a beachside resort town, Salcombe is best visited in summer. The weather will usually be warm, relatively dry, and the days long—ideal for tent or caravan camping. Outside of summer, opt for cabin or cottage accommodation around Salcombe instead. Because of Salcombe’s southern location, some of the outdoor attractions nearby can be enjoyed beyond the summer, too.
