Never has there been a campsite more aptly named. It took this reviewer 20 minutes and two phone calls to find the place, despite the satnav indicating that I was around 200 metres away. Persevere, though, and the determined camper is rewarded with a brilliant little piece of England to call their own. Our tip is to look out for the sign for Moor Lane Nursery as, rather sweetly, the day-to-day business here is growing and selling gorgeous plants.
What this means is that the whole place is beautifully designed, with stunning plants at every turn. A stroll through the site is a revelation, revealing nooks and crannies peppered with comfy chairs, a barbecue, picnic tables and a wishing well along with essential amenities such as a fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle and so on. Its proximity to Croyde Beach means that it’s a favoured hangout of the surf crowd but, thanks to its tranquil, private vibe, it attracts the more chilled variety of surfer. There’s unspoilt countryside in every direction and you’ll share your stay with butterflies, owls, egrets, bats and dragonflies (plus the lovely Steve and family – this is their home and they'll be on hand to accommodate in any way). Back to nature, then, but with the bonus of the lively village of Croyde just down the road.
This family run campsite is set on level ground away from the main road running into Saunton and Croyde. It's the owners own home - called Secret Spot Camping as there are no signs or roadside clues. Pre-booking online is essential. Based in Devon and near Saunton it's the perfect place to getaway and relax by the seaside!
The campsite boasts beautiful flower gardens which attract birds, butterflies, dragonflies and bees. The Camping Fields looks across open farmland on all sides and to the back of the Saunton Sand Dunes to the West. Onsite there are proper flushing toilets, free electric showers and a communal fire pit area adjacent to the Campers Kitchen. The communal kitchen has washing up facilities, fridges, freezer, microwave, electric kettle and a toaster. There are tables and chairs and comfy sofas etc. and the Campers kitchen is open 24 hrs too which is the perfect setup for chilling out in the evenings. The gardens have various seating areas so you can make a cup of tea and go slt and relax and enjoy the beautiful flowers and scenery.
An added bonus is the well stocked Village Stores nearby (Pixie Dell Stores) and it's also an easy stroll into Braunton with its many excellent Restaurants and shops - including of course the famous Squires Fish and Chip Shop! Pizza is also available delivered on slte.
Saunton and Croyde Beaches are just down the road and it's an ideal location to explore Braunton Burrows, Crow Point and The Great Field.
The Host's - Steve & Jo live on slte of course as lts their own home. Both are proper locals and do everything they can to look after their Guests and help them enjoy the wonderful things this area offers. (Steve offers free advice on the local beaches and all things surfing). They even have their own Surf Shop in Croyde which s now run by their Son Sam. (Croyde Surf Shop - the pink one!)
