Glamping near Grasmere with campfires guide

Overview

Tucked into North West England’s Lake District, Grasmere’s high peaks, sparkling lakes, and quaint atmosphere make it an ideal holiday destination. The village sits by the northern shore of Grasmere Lake, where campers can boat or walk along the shore and then camp lakeside. Tent pitches, caravan parks, glamping pods, and treehouses are available around Lake District National Park. Go hiking, biking, and swimming before spending the night under the starry skies. East of Grasmere, view or climb the iconic Yorkshire Three Peaks at Yorkshire Dales National Park. Or stay on a family-run farm to partake in even more water activities at Arnside & Silverdale Area of Natural Beauty on Morecambe Bay.

Where to go

Lake District National Park

Hike, bike, or paddle through Lake District National Park—England’s largest national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. With over 16 lakes, multiple tarns, and a small coastline, the park provides ample opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, and windsurfing. Visit peaceful Northern Lakes where motor boats are prohibited, or walk 50 accessible trails along Miles without Stiles. End the day by stargazing in one of the U.K.’s darkest places. Multiple on-site campsites offer tent and caravan pitches with electricity as well as glamping pods, cabin rentals, and treehouses.

Yorkshire Dales National Park

From highest peaks to deepest valleys to hidden coves and waterfalls, Yorkshire Dales National Park is a non-stop spectacle. Hike the Yorkshire Three Peaks—Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough, and Whernside—a 24-mile circular walk if completing all three in one go. Visit Malham Cove, Gordale Scar, and Janet’s Foss for cliffs, gorges, and waterfalls, or head to Gaping Gill for one of Britain’s largest caves. On-site camping includes cottage rentals, glamping pods, family-run farms, and private holiday parks.

Arnside & Silverdale Area of Natural Beauty (AONB)

Stunning scenery and biodiverse landscapes build the beauty of Arnside & Silverdale AONB. South of Grasmere on Morecambe Bay, Arnside & Silverdale is known for its ancient forests, sandy beaches, and blooming meadows. Campers can book spots at on-site holiday and caravan parks or stay nearby at family-run farm sites and small acreages with tent pitches and glamping pods. Relax and recharge alongside birds, butterflies, roe deer, and sea life that call the area home.

When to go

Despite year-round camping availability, Grasmere’s climate involves frequent rainfall and varying temperatures. October to January sees the most rain with temperatures dropping below 5°C. July and August are warmest, averaging highs around 19°C. It should be noted that summer is busy, so expect larger crowds and be sure to make reservations. April, May, and June are the driest and sunniest months, making spring the idyllic time to camp near Grasmere for comfortable weather and colourful blooms.
