Description

Heading out onto the great Mt. Whitney trek? The one-night-only Mt. Whitney Trailhead Campground is your basecamp before you venture deeper into the wilderness. This walk-in campground is buzzing with backpackers in the summer months hoping to make it to the top of the seriously majestic Mt. Whitney. But let’s be real… this trailhead campground ain’t so bad itself. With wildlife teeming between the many trees and shorter trails leading through the John Muir Wilderness, there’s no shortage of picture-perfect spots to visit. This is Inyo National Forest, after all.

Great spot in the late spring and fall! Very busy in the summer and hard to get a site.

This walk-in backpackers campground is the perfect spot to acclimatize and stage your Whitney summit. Make sure to store all of your food and toiletries (including toothpaste) in the bear lockers & canisters. Whitney bears don't mess around!
