Jashee Creek Campground

With no shortage of scenery (including a sparkling lake and wildflowers), this is a wonderful spot to tread on two wheels. Trails here are best suited for mountain bikes, with Spatter Cone Loop and Lava Springs being great options.

Ahjumawi is a wonderful place for a boat ride. In fact, the park is only accessible by water, making a love for boats absolutely necessary for any and all visitors. The best place for a boat launch is called the “Rat Farm.” Power boats are not allowed in all of the parks waterways, and on Big Lake the speed limit is 10 m.p.h. This park isn’t ideal for speed demons, but slow goers who can enjoy the scenery while gliding through the water will absolutely love this boating opportunity.

Since this park is only accessible by boat, it makes sense that this is the park of anglers’ dreams. The park’s best fishing spots include Ja She Creek, Horr Park, Big Lake and Crystal Springs. Some fish that can be caught here are Rainbow Trout, Sacramento Squawfish, Largemouth Bass, Rough Sculpin, Tui Chub and more. For particular fishing rules and regulations, check with the park.

Hiking at Ahjumawi is a welcome break from the usual walk in the woods. Trails throughout this park take visitors through an interesting array of environments such as marsh, brush, hillsides, lava tubes and pine forests. The park boasts 20 miles worth of trails and is truly an adventure waiting to be had. Your hiking experience will differ based on which boat landing you land at, so research carefully! Our favorite trail is the Spatter Cone Loop.

Since visitors literally have to make their way to this park by boat, this is a great spot for those who can’t get enough of paddling. Paddlers can launch at Big Lake or another boat launch nicknamed “Rat Farm.” Most of the waters in the park stay relatively warm and provide a great place for calm, clear and smooth sailing (read: canoeing and kayaking).

The park’s waters stay fairly warm throughout the year, making it a refreshing (but not bone-chilling) place to jump in! Ja She Creek is our favorite place to take a dip, so if you’re looking for a swim, the nearby campground would be a great place to set up shop.
