Trapper Arts Camping Retreat

Trapper Arts Retreat in NW Wisconsin has (3) waterfront sites and (1) wooded site. Located on a 1/4 mile long dead-end road (except Bob Lake West) on a 90 acre clear water no-wake lake and only 5 minutes from the Chippewa County Forest! The Chippewa County Forest (over 10,000 acres) Hickory Ridge Trailhead is located about 5 miles away. You can enjoy miles of hiking, biking, ATV or horseback riding trails. Trails wind past small lakes and beaver ponds, as well as spectacular vistas and abundant wild life. LIST OF SITES (all of our sites now include a portable toilet, firewood, fire ring, water, power, picnic table and/or chairs). BIRCH Waterfront is named for the beautiful birch trees that frame your view of the lake that also includes soothing evening loon sounds :) It is our medium size campsite with a level gravel and grass pad with lakefront access via the long wooded dock and an included row boat for fishing and boating. EAGLE POINT Waterfront is a favorite because it is the most private, surrounded by trees and is on a elevated waterfront lot with steps down to a dock. This site has a canoe and a row boat and the best spectacular sunset views. The eagle's nest is in a tall pine tree above the steps! BOB LAKE WEST Waterfront is our only site that is not on this dead end road. It is located on the west side of the lake near the boat landing. This site has a bonus small storage shed which could be a cool kids cabin. It is partially wooded elevated site with stunning sunrise views. WOODED RUSTIC is a non-waterfront campsite for both tents or RV's that has been updated to a level site with power and water and includes access to the lake and a row boat at our common access which is only about 200 yards down the road from this site. RV's can park on the gravel pad and tent guests can setup down the walking trail in the woods. This property was previously owned by Trapper Art who was well known in the area and started several successful businesses dating back to 1967 including Art's Snowmobile, Trapper Arts, and Art's Electric which was quite an accomplishment in the Wisconsin Northwoods!

Explore the greenhouse production of tomatoes, peppers, and ginger growing along with flowers and other hothouse varieties. Maggies Merry Mirror

Rural property that once was a combination of a dairy farm and commercial woodland. It is rare in that it has a 40 acre field, a 5 acre island, a year round creek and over 2,000 feet of river frontage and nearly 40 acres of woods. Learn more about this land: There are over 80 acres of woods, fields and an island to explore. The property has over 2,000 feet of frontage on the Chippewa River. There is also a year around creek that flows through the property to the river. Currently there are three separate sites that are suitable for camping on the bank of the Chippewa. Each site is primitive and has lots of privacy. There are five trails that go through the woods as well as follow the bank of the river. There is a stairway that descends to the river. The river at this point is rather pristine. There are no houses on the camping side of the river and just a few on the opposite side. The river along the property is great for wading, swimming, canoeing/kayaking and fishing. There are over a dozen lakes within a 20 mile radius of the property. Less than 3 miles from the property there are snowmobile and four wheeling trails that connect to trails that extend over 300 miles. The property is less than 15 miles from the headquarters of the Ice Age Trail that stretches from near Superior to near Madison, Wisconsin.

Jeske Equestrian Campground

The first time we viewed this property, we knew we were home. The woods, fields, wildlife, and house (created almost entirely from the lumber harvested from the land) drew us in. We purchased the home and 40 acres in 2018. Since then it has been a labor of love to make it everything we dream. A campground suitable for horseback riding was the goal for W15266. This was where the original homestead stood (firepit area). That home was transported across 95 on Davis road to become an Amish home. This area was overgrown and filled with rubbish, but still had a great deal of suitable plants hidden in the raspberries. We are continually working to groom it, and eventually, hope to better level the drive and sites and cover them with gravel. We need more and better fire pits and intend to have at least one more cabin- perhaps created from a refurbished corn crib? This cabin was refurbished in 2020 from the original homestead’s summer kitchen (where food was prepared to keep the house from getting too warm). Although it may have been easier to demolish and start over, Julie convinced Craig that the history was worth it. ;) I can’t tell you how disGUSTING it was, but we found treasures like the chair upstairs, the ironing board, and items on the walls and cupboards amongst the piles of Asian beetles and mouse chewings. Our current project you see in front is the bath/shower house. It has a toilet and shower and was completed 2021. With expansion, we will add one more toilet on the other side. The old shed in front, is a disaster. We fluctuate the same way we did with the summer kitchen: bulldoze or refurbish? It currently houses our equipment and lumber, but someday, we are hoping to have a small country Tiki bar. Craig has received the liquor license already. We love tucked away country bars with unique flavors, so we hope we can offer this to our customers. Jeske Equestrian is also a boarding/training facility. We built the horse barn in 2019, and last year we put up a 60x180 indoor riding arena. Maintaining and creating trails has been extensive. Keeping up on the signage and the trail map has been nearly impossible since Craig loves creating new ones with the skid steer on a regular basis! We are working on the pond area to be more recreational in our future as well. Thanks again for choosing us. We hope to see you again! Plates, bowls and cutlery are provided along with cooking utensils and a handful of pots, pans, and bowls. Salt, sugar, and olive oil also provided. We provide filtered water and cream in the refrigerator upon your arrival, and for families with young children we have a gate to block the staircase and outlet caps for added security. Twelve chickens are a part of our family, and you are welcome to feed the chickens clover or fresh flowers, and help us plant flowers or pick apples depending on the season! We also have two farm dogs and two farm cats who might want to say hello.

Site 1, Bee Balm is relatively close to the house, shower and toilet, and Site 2, Oak Grove is farther from the house and facilities, but still only about 40 yards from facilities. If you are camping with a trailer we will set you up in the Bee Balm site as there is more space and better access.

6,300 acres of lake, 1,000 acres of forest, 18 miles of hiking trails—Lake Wissota State Park is a serene paradise. Take a dip at their swimming beach, bike, hike and ride along paved and off-road trails, or spend a day in your boat (or rent one there!); Wissota won’t leave anyone behind. Beyond Mother Nature’s adventures, the park offers picnic areas, a large play area, ball diamond and volleyball court. Hunting and trapping are also allowed in certain areas, and if you’re a winter warrior, the park has trails for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling as well as great ice fishing, but be careful—the park does not monitor or measure for ice conditions on the lake.
