My family settled on this plot of land at the turn of the century, moving west in a covered wagon. And aside from a brief time in the late 80's it has been in our family ever since. For most of the 20th century the property was a small farm, grazing cattle and mowed for bailing hay. We are trying to rejuvenate the property and breathing some new life into this old plot of land. Learn more about this land: The Hill, aptly named, is a hilltop that slopes down to a large pond that divides the twenty acre property in two.  With plenty of room to stretch your legs you can enjoy a nature walk. The property has 2 ponds and you can watch the sunrise in the morning and the sunset in the evening without moving. Campground Rules & Expectations We want every guest to have a safe, peaceful, and enjoyable stay. To help with that, please observe the following: Alcohol is permitted in moderation for guests 21 and older. We ask that you drink responsibly, respect other campers, and observe quiet hours from 10 pm to 8 am. Excessive partying, loud music, or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. All containers—especially glass—must be properly disposed of. Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property due to fire risk. This includes cigarettes, cigars, vaping, and other forms of open-flame or heat-producing smoking. Illegal drugs are strictly prohibited. Any use or possession of illegal substances will result in immediate removal from the property and may be reported to law enforcement. Fires are allowed only when permitted by local guidelines and must remain in designated fire rings or pits. Never leave a fire unattended, and fully extinguish it before leaving or going to sleep. Pets must be kept on a leash at all times, and please clean up after them. Some areas may be off-limits to animals for safety or environmental reasons. Pack out what you pack in. Base Camp was my first experience with my new-to-me camper and Hipcampers and it was a great experience! Base Camp is set up very well...easy to get in and out of - especially for anyone with little experience. The pull through spots are very wide. Although I didn't get to use the free to use bicycles or canoes on this trip I did check them out and they are very well taken care of. The Camp was peaceful and although it's just off the roadway it was very quiet with very little road noise. I will be back!

We really enjoyed our stay! The campsites were nice and level, making setup easy. Campers have access to a beautiful pond surrounded by trees — perfect for relaxing. The paddle boats and provided life jackets were a fun bonus, and we loved having bikes available and easy access to the nearby bike trail. A couple of things could be improved: the grounds could use more frequent mowing, and a larger trash receptacle for campers would be helpful. Overall, it’s a peaceful and enjoyable spot, and we’d definitely come back!

My wife and I loved it. We were passing through and needed a spot for the night . Found Base Camp on HipCamp and loved it. We had the property to ourselves, after dinner took a walk around the very well kept grounds. There are bikes and canoes for use to people staying and about 8 little cabins for a glamping getaway. Would definitely stay again only next time longer. Jon was great with communication too! Thanks Jon for a relaxing stop.

Base Camp was an amazing weekend getaway and we wished we had another day there! The bathrooms were amazing and bike repair building is a great amenity which also includes a room with pool table, couches, and kitchen. We met Jon and his wife during our stay and it was evident they love having this space for people to enjoy, great conversation and stories! The pond was a great place to sit and enjoy coffee in the morning & dinner in the evening. Our doggies also gave this two paws up for the open space to walk around and explore.

Kansas isn’t exactly known for watery wonderlands, which is why Pearson-Skubitz Big Hill Lake is such a gem of a find. It’s one of the clearest lakes in the state, well known to trophy anglers and locals. Come and enjoy all your favorite wet and wild adventures, including swimming, fishing, boating, and waterskiing. There are three campgrounds, beautiful equestrian trails, and a sandy beach for all your summertime relaxation needs. Pack a picnic and unwind for the day, or extend your stay at one of the full-service campgrounds. Trail riders can make use of primitive camping facilities when they’re out horsing around. Great spot to camp and relax. This is a COE managed campground and it is popular so reservations during camping season is recommended. For tent campers, make sure you check out the pics of the site before booking. There may not be a space to setup the tent at the site on grass.
