The homestead was built in 1911 and was one of the original postal pickups in the area. The ranch is located between Mesa Verde National Park, Hovenweep National Monument and backs up to Canyon of the Ancients National Monument. Our family has lived in McElmo Canyon for over 40 years and the campground has hosted camping and outdoor educational groups since 1965. We are a family run ranch with an operating hay farm, horseback riding business, and carriage shop.
Unfortunately we had an emergency and didn't get to stay. But they were very understanding and got us our refund. We hope to stay here in the future when we return to Mesa Verde because they were very nice and communicated well beforehand.
Man, what a beautiful space to call "home" for a few days! The solace alone gives this spot a 10! Great communication from camp hosts, when meeting us and when needed, without our prompting! Thank you Rodney and Jessica!
You're within 40ish minutes from Mesa Verde NP and the campsite is within walking distance to Canyons of the Ancients hike! AMAZING! The visitor center is so worth the visit before venturing out - about a 40 minute drive from the campsite. This spot is already tugging me back!
Wow Canyon Trails is amazing! Rodney and family were very welcoming and the camp setup is great, with all the amenities you need, but with a feel of wild camping. We really enjoyed the chuck wagon kitchen for cooking meals. Would also recommend a trip to the Sutcliffe Vineyard down the road, amazing wines and close enough to walk back to camp! Would love to come back some time soon.
My husband and I, plus our two dogs, loved tent camping at Canyon Trails Ranch! We were able to meet and talk with Rodney and Joe, who were both so kind and welcoming. It was great having a place to shower on site, and the chuck wagon cooking area was a fun place to whip up some meals. Would highly recommend!
We stayed in the Conestoga wagon during a heavy rain and wind storm and enjoyed the sound of the storm. The wagon is warm, and welcoming and very roomy. The views from the front door are lovely and we were able to take a long walk on the private road. Rodney and family were so very kind and friendly. I would highly recommend staying in this quiet haven.
This was a beautiful location. Rodney and Family were great. It was early season and we were the only ones here and it was super special to have the place to ourselves.
