This woodland retreat, just 40 minutes from Downtown Toronto, provides a perfect escape for those seeking a break from the ordinary. Welcome to Our Handcrafted Oasis: Immerse yourself in rustic charm at our handcrafted cabin, where every detail tells a story. I personally built this entire cabin, pouring passion into every nail and beam. Much of the wood material was sustainably sourced from the surrounding forest and milled right here on our hobby farm. The roof and flooring, crafted with care, echo the natural beauty that surrounds you. Sustainability: I used as much recycled, and reclaimed materials as possible in the build instead of new materials. Even the wood floors and ceiling were milled from trees that died naturally in the very same forest the cabin is located. The cabin is totally off grid, and relies on a small solar panel to power the electronics of the incinerating toilet. Cozy Interior with Forest Views: Inside, a warm and inviting interior awaits. The open-concept living area features a wood-burning stove, ensuring cozy evenings. Large windows frame panoramic forest views, bringing the outdoors in as you relax in comfort. Well-Equipped Kitchenette: Prepare delightful meals in the small, but well-equipped kitchen, complete with a gas stove. Share your culinary creations in the dining area, surrounded by the beauty of the woods. Or if you prefer, order in from the many restaurants and Pizza joints in town. Upstairs, a loft-style bedroom boasts a queen-sized bed, while the lower level offers a cozy futon for additional sleeping space. Drift off to sleep to the gentle sounds of the forest. Please note you must be able to climb a ladder to access the loft. Modern Amenities in Nature: Our commitment to sustainability includes a modern toilet in a separate washroom building. Please note our toilet relies on solar power, during the winter and long stretches of cloudy weather, the battery may become depleted. We have battery back ups available so please let us know of any issues and we can rectify them right away. Board Games for Cozy Nights: Take your games night to the next level with our selection of board games. Whether you're a strategic mastermind or a casual player, enjoy quality time with friends and family in the warmth of the cabin. Outdoor Bliss: Step outside to explore the hiking trails that wind through our forested haven. With direct access to over 100 acres of public forest, every hike is a new adventure. As well as our newly added family of sheep followed closely behind by our livestock guardian dog, Nala, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all our animal friends. Here, you'll find a charming array of shops and restaurants, many of which are highlighted in our guidebook. Indulge in local flavors and discover hidden gems in this vibrant community. Your Hosts: As advocates for sustainable living, we're here to ensure your stay is memorable. Reach out for assistance or local tips during your woodland getaway. Book Your Forest Retreat: Escape the ordinary and reconnect with nature. Welcome to your private cabin with forest trails and stars at night! Privacy and wildlife only an hour from Toronto and less than 45 minutes from Brampton, Orangeville, Guelph, Cambridge, Milton, and Kitchener-Waterloo. The cabin has a queen-size bed and cozy living room. Open-air kitchenette on the covered porch with propane camp stove and basic kitchen supplies. Forest courtyard with fire pit, cooking grill and picnic table. 20-second walk to a VERY clean and private outhouse. Cabin is solar powered. Electricity for lights and phone charging. Firewood and water for drinking and washing all included. The forest cabin has walls made of straw bales covered with plaster. It feels like you're inside an adobe building in southwest USA. Deep window sills with curved corners. Built in 2002, it's one the first straw bale buildings in Ontario. It's as gorgeous today as the day it was built! Our 50-acre slice of heaven has it a bit of everything for your private retreat. Trails, forests, fields, meadows, rolling hills, and panoramic views. We live at the front of the farm property, pretty far from the cabin. So you have privacy, but we're available by text or phone if you need us. Want some quiet time? Looking for a slow down space? Kick back in the cabin or take stroll on the quiet forest trails. Interested in local food? Explore our organic vegetable fields, check out the greenhouses, or hang out with our happy chickens and sheep. Ready for a unique dinner experience? Cedar Creek Forest Camping

11 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents97 acres · Tay, ON
Welcome to Cedar Creek Forest Camping! Voted second best campsite in Canada in 2021 and ranked number 2 in Ontario in 2022. I have 97 acres of very private camping. The forest is a bird watcher’s and nature lover’s paradise. I have developed miles of flat groomed trails and a 3-acre pond (plus several bush ponds). The sites are spread around the pond and are close but not right beside it. There is an abundant amount of wildlife to explore: birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects and mammals call this home. There is a small swimming hole on the island but otherwise the pond is full of aquatic life. The sites and trails are maintained all year long and the forest is quiet and beautiful. I have planted over 3000 trees with the help of the Severn Sound Environmental Association. The forest is registered as a managed woodlot with the province and habitat preservation/restoration is the priority goal. Please DO NOT bring firewood for your visit. I have large bags of cured firewood that was sustainable harvested from the forest available. Invasive insects and disease can be transferred from imported wood. Guests are welcome to quietly explore the forest trails but are asked to stay on the trail. Many birds and animals nest in the forest. My campsite is family-friendly (and pet-friendly), and 420 friendly too. Guests can easily drive up to and park at all campsites. My camp site is tolerant and respectful of all humans, animals and things. The Yurtle structures were built from Hemlock trees that were cut from this forest and processed into boards, then engineered into unique camping huts. Large windows capture the glory of the surrounding forest and sun sets, while wood stoves warm campers on those cold days/nights. Guests are asked to remove excessive garbage and recycling when possible. Thanks for viewing and visiting, cheers and peace, Dave

La Finca

3 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents49 acres · Owen Sound, ON
We are fortunate to call this ecologically diverse and extremely private piece of land home, and we are excited to welcome you here to explore the magic for yourself. Our 50 acre parcel would have comprised much of the maple bush for the original 400 acre farm property. The stone fence rows and laneways lined with large boulders are remnants from the days or horse drawn carriages, likely put in place hundreds of years ago. In addition to the maple bush there are several acres of cedar bush, open wild flower meadows, as well as fields dotted with larger shade-giving trees. A small half acre of the property is used to farm fresh cut flowers which you are welcome to visit. We also have a kitchen garden, 10 egg-laying hens, 2 very friendly outdoor cats, and our black lab Abby who will likely greet you with a bark (she is very friendly). In the summer months you can enjoy a handful of lakes for swimming and boating all within 10-15 minutes of our property. We are happy to share details and locations. We are conveniently located just off of Highway 10, ten minutes north of Markdale and 25 minutes south of Owen Sound. If you are headed north to Tobermory, we are a perfect mid way point if coming from Toronto, with Tobermory just an hour and a half north of us.

Heartwood Farm & Cidery

3 sites · Lodging42 acres · ON
"This place is magical!" Since moving here in 2004, Val and Brent have worked with the natural diversity of this 42 acre farm to create an ecological haven. Heartwood has always welcomed friends to experience the joys of a regenerative farm life -- our overnight farmstay program offers an adult-focused retreat experience. When you arrive, we’ll give you a warm Heartwood welcome, invite you for a glass of cider on the woodland patio, and provide enough of a farm orientation to be able to create your own adventure. Cuddle the piglets, explore our woodland and pasture trails, hang out in the barn for some farmyard therapy, pick fruit while walking the forest garden labyrinth, and if you're curious about the life of a farmer, tag along with Val to do the chores and dig deeper into the wonder of regenerative agriculture. We have three separate sites for our canvas platform tents. Sunrise Suite and Orchard Oasis are nestled between our pastures and orchards, offering farm life immersion. Spruce Sanctuary offers more seclusion and privacy in one of our farm's woodland zones. All of our tents come fully furnished with a super-comfy queen-sized bed, bedside tables, and furnished patio. There is also a fire-pit, with firewood supplied at your site for your evening campfire and stargazing.
