Located on the Fourth Lake of the Fulton Chain of Lakes, Alger combines thrilling activity with stillness and serenity. Canoes, rowboats and motor boats are welcome on the lake. From the edge of a boat or the shore, simply admire the cornucopia of fish—or, cast a line and catch lake trout, brook trout, rainbow trout or Atlantic salmon. There is an impressive trail that winds around the island, that is kept up by the state—we love New York! Lean-to and tent sites are up for grabs. Alger Island will give you the experience of being on a relatively remote island without that whole volleyball bonding thing.

Adirondack Rustic Retreat

As far as we know, this land has been occupied since shortly after the civil war. It is actually two farms, combined into one around 1900. The main farmhouse was built out of the logs they cleared in 1879, and there are old foundations of the other original farm houses/barns as well. All over the property (now woods) there are piles of stones that the original inhabitants pulled from the fields. The second farm house was built in 1901. Most of the total 240 acres were cleared pasture land at that time. During the twenties and thirties the property was owned by an industrious couple from the City that lovingly turned it into more of a "rustic retreat"; damming a pond, planting ornamentals and upgrading the buildings. There have been many owners over the years, but we are proud to say it has been with us the longest. Our family bought it in 1961 and we have been trying to be good stewards ever since. Come and visit our little patch of wilderness!

Our Family has owned this property for over 60 years. Jim & Sue spend their summers here. Our son recently vacationed at some great glamping sites around the country and had a vision of creating one on our property. We are excited to share the experience of what camping in this historic region of Adirondack's is all about.Black Hole & Dunkley Falls campsite is located on an 80-acre old Adirondack farm. The Mill Creek runs along with this property, which features access to the scenic Dunkley Falls & The Black Hole — a cavernous geological anomaly. This famous swimming spot is a perfect place to test your nerve with a backflip off its 20 ft cliffs or just take a leisurely swim in the naturally formed glacier pool. Like to fish? The Mill Creek is also stocked annually with over 3000 w/ brown & rainbow trout. All of this is just a short walk from our property. Onsite: Canvas Wall Tent (16ft X 14ft ) and Outhouse. In addition to the Canvas Wall Tent, we have a canvas bell tent for rent from larger groups. You can reserve this by adding it on as an extra when checking out with us here at Hipcamp.

Welcome to our new little campstite located on our property in Tupper Lake! It's right on Little Wolf Pond and only a minute drive to the public beach and campground. Our property has two buildings on it, both of which are condemned so we've created a little camping spot right near the water! There's a picnic table, fire pit and electricity for you to enjoy. We are still in the process of building the platform to have your tent off the ground but for now you can pick any spot you want to put your tent! We're pet-friendly and have one small senior dog on the property and 2 cats with 2 kittens! My mom is located in the red camp if you ever have any questions. There is a hose for you to use water as well. No toilet or shower however but you can run to the local campground and get a hot shower and toilet use there.

We were a group of 6 friends that camped on Alger Island for two nights in the end of August. The sites here are boat in sites and we have two canoes for 3 people each – we were able to fit all of our camping gear along with us in one go. It was very secluded with great views of the lake from out lean-to. The ground was very big – two picnic tables with enough room for our 8-person tent, and an outhouse not too far away. Our campground was partially shaded so there was enough coverage for when it drizzled a little. During the day we canoed around the lake and in the evening the water was at a nice temperature for a night swim! So far my favorite campsite in NY.
