Better Farm is a 65-acre organic farm, animal sanctuary, artist colony, and retreat space. The property features forests, rolling hills, open fields, a pond, sauna, various paddocks for the rescued farm animals, organic gardens, a two-story Art Barn with local FM radio station, gallery, studio and recording space, and a second barn used for events. This second-generation property began as a 1970s commune that since 2009 has been revived and renovated to provide overnight lodging, event space, residencies, and educational opportunities for the curious and creative. The farm is 10 short miles from the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands of Northern New York. The area is a naturalist's paradise, with countless outdoor opportunities to enjoy from boating and swimming to snowshoeing and hiking. There are more than a dozen lakes within 10 minutes of the property, with cute towns to explore including Sackets Harbor, Clayton, Alexandria Bay, and Wellesley Island.

Birdhouse Cabin
Birdhouse Cabin
What a great place to get away! The Farm was the perfect combo of “roughing” it and glamping! Check in included a nice tour of everything there. The farmhouse has two full bathrooms (one with a clawfoot tub) and a kitchenette. There are lots of places on property to hang. They had bonfires both nights (I was too tired to join in.) The birdhouse Cabin didn’t have any power because the storm had knocked it out l, but they supplied a battery powered fan, and two Lanterns. There isn’t a lot of ventilation in the cabin, so the fan was a life saver. I would 100% bring my family next time!

Great experience!
Went here for the eclipse! Great vibes. Cool, friendly hosts. Great communicators. Cool how they let us choose our tent-pitching location from many different areas on the property. The weather made things a bit muddy, so I'm glad I brought my rubber boots! Beau the turkey was particularly fascinating to meet! If we had more time I would have loved to go on the farm tour or join for the morning breakfast. At first, I was nervous about being close to a two-lane road because of noise, but there was VERY little traffic.

We had a fantastic time at Better Farm! We had an entire eclipse celebration, played with the animals, had fun campfire discussions and learned a lot about the other guests. Would absolutely recommend coming to Nicole and David’s place.

Unique camping location. Hosts are very helpful and accommodating. My first time using a compost toilet. Amazing how it doesn’t smell like other portable options. Favorite thing was the outside kitchen with all the lights to make cooking after dark super easy. Thanks for everything.

Rustic Tiny Home Cabin
Worth a drive from any city!
This was such a lovely experience! I stayed for one night with a few friends for the eclipse in the Rustic Tiny Home Cabin - it was very comfortable and cozy! Nicole was a fantastic host and even helped get my car out of the mud when I first arrived. She hosted an Eclipse party that we went to as well, which was a ton of fun and really added up to an incredibly memorable experience! Better Farms is a six hour drive from Boston but I would absolutely make it again, and hope I get a chance to visit in the future!
