Both Anna’s Candles and Washpool goodies make great gifts.There are great places to eat too. O’Mara’s Hotel is not fancy but it’s really good pub food and they make lots of their own goodies. The Country Club Hotel does pretty good pub food too as does the Commercial Hotel. These pubs are in the main street of Stanthorpe. The Aussie Beef Steak House does more than steak but their steaks are spectacular. Hanasaku Japanese and, Orso Thai, both open for lunch and dinner are just exceptional. For something slightly fancier try Varias (it never disappoints), also open for lunch and dinner most days. Try Blue Topaz for crazy good burgers and milkshakes at good prices, or visit blue pot pantry for a casual longer lunch in the countryside. They also have great pickles and jams. Out new favourite is Balancing Heart Vineyard, they do outstanding pizzas, mezze and cheese platters add a bottle of wine and chill out by the lake for the afternoon. Balancing Heart is just minutes from Heavenly Chocolates and Girraween National Park. Hanasaku and the Aussie Beef Steakhouse are BYO wine. We recommend booking in advance for both lunch and dinner.The region has some wonderful national parks to explore. These include Girraween, Sundown and Bald Rock. For a closer and easier “rocky walk” with great views visit Donnelly’s Castle it’s just 8 minutes away. It is very kid/older people friendly and a great place for a picnic. Enjoy rocks, caves and wonderful lookout. Donnelly’s castle is close to Heritage Estate and Boireann Wines and also close to Stanthorpe Cheese.We will consider one dogs per cabin. 9 sites on 251 acres. We have opened our property for totally off grid rustic camping – you must be self-sufficient. No toilets, no showers, no potable water and no cooking facilities provided. Maximum stay 14 days. This property runs cattle and two horses, we also seem to accommodate neighbours goats when they escape their own property. We have an abundance of birdlife, a few hares and the occasional mob of kangaroos like to thunder through the property at dawn and dusk. Free firewood can be collected around the campsites and firepits are provided. Campfires are subject to authority fire bans. Campsites are large enough to accommodate 2 or 3 vans, some more. Day visitors for fossicking/prospecting must book through Hipcamp for insurance reasons. Campsites are slashed areas not immaculately manicured lawns. Most campsites are fairly level but may need some leveling using ramps. We have 7 dams in total on the property and some are suitable for water play and swimming however you will note from the pictures the dams are muddy and they are very deep. The cattle drink from 5 of the 7 dams. No motorbikes allowed however bicycles are allowed on the tracks. Dogs are permitted but must be on a leash at all times for their safety and the safety of the other residents on the property both human and animal. Gold prospecting/fossicking is allowed subject to rules that will be provided if you choose this as an extra option – additional fees apply. No motorised tools allowed other than metal detectors.
