Relax in this peaceful, family friendly campground, nestled in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and nearby Mount Elliot. Enjoy the 70 Acres of shady grounds with plenty of wildlife, including pretty faced wallabies and abundant birdlife. On arrival simply pick a spot you like and set up camp. We do have internet reception. Occasionally reception can be weak depending on what the network is doing. Generally, it is not a problem. The 20-acre dam is full from all this rain we are having early December. Bring Mosquito/sandfly spray especially if camping by the lake. Settle down of an evening sit back and enjoy the spectacular starry night sky. Campfires allowed. Fire rings are available scattered about the site, just roll one to your camp site. Wood for sale, $10 cash per milk crate, from camp kitchen. Please be honest and place cash in the 'honesty box'. Thankyou. Located conveniently 45 km South from Townsville and Magnetic Island ferry terminal, 45km north of Ayr, 8km north of Giru. Pet friendly. All dogs must be on a lead and under owners' control at all times. Dog poo must be picked up. No one wants to step in your dog's poo. Powered and unpowered sites available. Separate men and women's toilets and hot showers. Camp kitchen with shared fridges, gas rings x2, large gas BBQ, toaster, kettle, microwave and picnic tables. BYO cooking gear, plates, cups, utensils. Washing up sinks x2 -cold water only. Laundry tubs have hot water that can be used in kitchen sink. Coin washing machines available. ($2 x 2, BYO coins)

Campsite by the Creek is situated in a quite area at the edges of Mount Elliot section, Bowling Green Bay National Park. Backing onto freshwater Alligator Creek. Located 28 km south of Townsville and 59 km north of Ayr, Spot by the Creek is only 2.6km off the Bruce Highway making it a very convenient stopover for a weary traveller. Encounter a variety of local wildlife. Listen for the birdcalls of kookaburras, flycatchers, honeyeaters and cuckoo-shrikes. Spot large jungle perch cruising in the creek or watch wallabies feeding on the grassy open spaces. Take nature walks, canoe and swim or just relax by the campfire with the cooling mountainous breeze. Great for self-sufficient travellers wanting to visit Bowling Green Bay National Park that have pets and want to camp by the fire. Spot by the Creek is a private property and is suitable for self-sufficient campers. There are no amenities, so you need to bring or hire your own. Dogs permitted, however please be mindful there are no fences. Also be mindful of neighbouring properties and abundant wildlife. Campfires permitted. Portable firepits preferable. In the small rural town of Millaroo, you will find nestled around sugar cane, horses & a small herd of quiet cattle, a laid back bush camp in a paddock by two dams on the bank of Millaroo Creek. Here you can bird watch, take leisurely walks down to the creek, enjoy a spot of fresh water fishing/red-clawing, launch the kayak where you may spot the odd fresh water crocodile or sit and relax in tranquility on the creek bank. During harvesting season you may visit regular cane fires in the local area, and may be even lucky enough to catch the burn straight across from the campground! The local Millaroo Social Club is a short ten minute drive, where meals are served most Friday nights. The Burdekin river is also a short drive away where you can access the river closer to the township of Millaroo by 4WD for an afternoon barbecue & fish! Campground offers plenty of fresh water for drinking & filling tanks, does requires campers to be self contained & is pet friendly providing they are supervised at all times.

The region is a well-known fishing mecca, with access to Barramundi, mud crabs, other estuary species, and off-coast reef fishing. Alva is also the closest point to the world-famous SS Yongala wreck. Ranked as one of the top ten dive sites in the world.

Donnington Airpark is a 160-acre privately-owned airfield located at Woodstock, 40 km from Townsville on the Flinders Highway. It is home to a number of private aircraft and a couple of flying training organisations from Towsville use it for touch-and-go circuits, first solo etc. A monthly Social Fly-In Breakfast is staged (4th Sunday), which features visiting aircraft, occasional car/bike club displays, market stalls, hot food and coffee van plus special attractions or guest speakers and presentations (when available). There is ample level ground available for campers. Sunsets can be glorious (depending on the time of year). Kangaroos and wallabies visit daily, as does a variety of birdlife - crows, hawks, ibis, magpies, willy-wag-tails, pee-wees, finches, parrots, doves, kookaburras to name a few. The airpark is easily accessible from the highway and Townsville is only 40 km away for shopping, restaurants, Magnetic Island trips. Fuel is available at Caltex Calcium, 13 km towards Charters Towers. Donnington can be used for an overnight stay or base yourself here for a few days and radiate outwards to Townsville, Charters Towers, Ravenswood or the Burdekin.
