Our property contains the first road in and out of Colo - the original road is supported by hand built dry rock walls some of which are over 3 m high. Often referred to as convict built, but more likely built by freemen who were former convicts.  The property housed the load master's residence who controlled the cargo boats that docked to collect the valley’s produce. This was then transported back down the Colo River which flows into the Hawkesbury river and leads to Broken Bay following the coastline down to Old Sydney Town. The beach diagonally across the river was landed upon by members of the First Fleet’s exploratory scouting party on the lookout for quality farm land - some of which is still in production today.  Our property is on the uppermost reach of freshwater but with tidal influence. This deep water allows swimming and canoeing all year round. Our property is adjacent to the only council built canoe launching facilities on the Colo River.

Peaceful farm setting on a working horse property. Offering limited, laser levelled fully turfed sites, to allow space. The large lake is a feature of the property and abounds with bird life of many species. This campsite suits fully self sufficient campers with own drinking water and toilet/shower amenities. Pets are welcome by arrangement, especially your horses (please contact us to arrange holidaying with your dog or horse before booking). In summer you may see mumma swan and her baby cygnets, as well as lots of ducklings. Drop in your paddle board or kayak for a leisurely paddle. Take a relaxed stroll around the property and depending on the season you might spy a wylie fox or a turtle laying eggs. Deer occasionally visit and echidnas and wombats, although nocturnal animals sometimes are a precious sight. There are platypus in the creek and fish in the lake.k Pre-booked riding lessons available. We have a state forest over the road suited to bush walking or mountain bikes. Ammo the horse who galloped out in the Sydney 2000 Olympics opening ceremony is buried here at Lakestead Farm. We love to speak about our Olympic experience. Please note these campsite are for 2 people with one car only (children welcome to visit with adults). NOTE: There aror showers - campers need to BRING their own. We love our pristine environment so no bush poos allowed. We are located minutes from the M1, easy to break your journey, 40 minutes from Wahroonga and Newcastle exit. Just 5 minutes drive to Wyong Centre with shopping centre and good restaurants, and 20 minutes drive to beaches. Off the ground fires are allowed outside bushfire season. Wood to be supplied by campers. Our property is designed to welcome small groups of people who want a quiet getaway. Because we like to keep it more intimate, The property is not designed for large groups of 10 or more wanting a social gathering or party. We are an easy 40 minute drive to the Hunter Valley wineries and concerts in the vines The Lake can be fun to swim or paddle around but all visitors must wear life vests whilst in the water. Locally we have some great festivals to visit the Glenworth Food and Wine festival, Yarramalong valley Spring fair with Scarecrow comp, Wyong Love Lanes festival, Harvest festival, Ratmines Catalina Festival, Brisbane water Oyster Festival to name a few. IMPORTANT PLEASE READ. Camping toilet At Lakestead Farm we pride ourselves on our beautiful environment. We have lots of wildlife around. We are very upset when visitors to the Farm dig holes and poo in them. Leaving toilet paper on top. This is so unfair to us and future campers on our sites. Because this has occurred we will only allow campers with camping toilets. In order for us to accept your request you need to confirm you have a toilet. Don’t say yes if you don’t have one, Checks will be done, if you don’t have a portable toilet you will be asked to leave and your fees won’t be refunded. We are sorry if this offends anyone, we love to share our property but only with people who will love and respect it.

Sally and Brian invite you to enjoy camping on their beautiful property, surrounded by Yengo National Park and Crown land. Earthways is 134 ha (330 acre) property near Wollombi. All separate for your individual group- you won't see anyone else. 25minutes from Wollombi or Broke. Come and enjoy the noises of the bush and the clear night skies with no close human neighbors. Great for couples, families or larger groups or just come alone to enjoy the bush. We (Brian and Sally) have been re-vegetating the land and living here sustainably being “Off Grid” for over 45years, surrounded by bush with 3km of Stockyard creek meandering through the valley. HOT and dry summer so the creek is not flowing at present. We would love to share this paradise with those wanting to get away from wifi and the hustle and bustle of city life. (for emergencies we have satellite phone) Children under 4yrs are free. Dogs welcome but kept on a lead during the evening. No leeches and No ticks in this area. NO close neighbors. Perfect spot to pitch your tent or set up your camper in the valley. Lots of sunshine and lots of shade. Easy dirt road access (6km) Some sites require/recommend 4WD -some 2WD is fine. Check with us before booking if needed. Come and take advantage of the Wollombi Valley's beautiful scenery and atmosphere. Sit and relax or get adventurous and explore the area. The historic village of Wollombi is only 25 minutes away, and has cafes, shop, museum and the Wollombi Tavern. The popular Broke and Pokolbin wine regions are a short 25-40 minute drive away in the opposite direction. Yengo National Park has some wonderful look out spots-great to drive to Finchley lookout to watch the sun set or check out Aboriginal art sites. No guarantee but...You may see wombats, kangaroos, echidnas, goanna's, kookaburras, bower birds, lyre birds, superb blue wren, gang gangs, black cockatoos and so many other native birds/creatures. Stunning rock features, caves, diverse ecosystems with abundant native fauna and flora. We are situated in a valley. Each of our camp sites are for your own private space.

What an awesome place to have a break! Hosts are brilliant, we were taken to our super secluded site in the middle of the bush, with its own toilet 👍🏻 and fire pit! We also purchased some of their delicious resident honey. We will be back for sure!

We enjoyed camping at Brian and Sally’s place. Felt very relaxed nestled in amongst all of the beautiful trees. Very private and quiet area. Was handy having the pit toilet available and great to be able to take our dog along. Wish I’d packed the antihistamines as unfortunately we encountered a few ant bites and a brush with some stinging nettle!! Despite this we all had a lovely time an would recommend to other campers

1 night at C Colo - just beautiful

I stayed at Steve’s camp recently and really enjoyed my time there overall. The location is great—nice and close to Sydney, with a good hike just up the road that makes it easy to explore the area. Steve himself was an absolute legend! His brownies, stories, prizes, and local knowledge really added a special touch to the stay and made the experience more personal and fun. A few things to note for future campers: the map could use an update as it was a bit hard to read, and the campsite is fairly close to the road, so you’ll hear some road noise at times. There’s also a bright streetlight that stays on all night, which might bother some people depending on which site they’re in. The walk to the bathroom at night or early morning can be a little awkward since it goes through other campsites. Overall though, it was a great stay with a friendly vibe, good amenities, and an unbeatable location for a quick getaway from the city.

We loved our short stay at Fig Tree Hill. The site we had was tucked away in a beautiful spot a short walk from river. Steve was a great host and very knowledgeable about the area. I would absolutely stay at this site again. Helped to have a higher clearance vehicle to drive in closer to the particular site we were staying at

My family and I had a great time relaxing at the campsite. Steve was a brilliant host and we loved the brownies he brought us! There is a bit of traffic on the road nearby but not too disturbing. My only wish would be that the river access be made easier, the path down to the water is quite overgrown and steep, and the actual waterside area is not particularly inviting.

Always amazing to camp at the Colo River.It was for the second time i went there, and it is always great. Steve is incredibly friendly and welcoming , the brownies are absolutely amazing, and canoeing on the Colo River is hands down the best part. Such a beautiful, relaxing experience would definitely recommend!

The place is ok overall. The kayaks were working well right next to the river, the view is nice but the quality of the camping site is regular. The bathroom is a latrine and campfires are not allowed. Is works well to get disconnected close to the city for one day.

Really nice spot! Sandy & Janette provided really good info on the local area. Instructions were easy to follow. The spot itself was really nice by the lake. Heaps of birds cruising about, happy horses & a friendly pup that came to say hi a couple of times. You also feel well out in the country but are still super close to shops and local attracations. We will definitely be back.

The hosts were very helpful generous with tips /maps etc for the surrounding area. Having onsite canoe/kayaks available for hire was such a bonus. Steve made sure we had all the safety equipment needed for our kids.

We had a great time at C Colo. Danielle and Steve provided a fantastic space for everyone. Steve gave us some great tips for our kayaking trip and the kayaks we hired were really good as well. Would definitely recommend anyone staying here and will hopefully be back!

We had a great time with just two of us at C Colo but can see it would also work really well for groups too. There is variety between the campsites and we found a perfect little one to suit just us. Steve and Danielle were great hosts and we enjoyed a good chat. It rained on arrival but the land dried quickly and it wasn't an issue at all. We will absolutely come back to explore more on a longer stay soon!
