Kookaburra

3 sites · RVs, Tents20 acres · Jerrawangala, NSW
Step into tranquillity and get ready for a truly authentic 'bush' experience at Kookaburra, a charming 20-acre farm tucked away between Ulladulla and Nowra on the NSW South Coast! Just under a three-hour drive from bustling Sydney and Canberra, Kookaburra offers a peaceful getaway that'll make you feel worlds away. Imagine setting up camp in our open paddock or nestling under the shade of our tree canopies! As an added bonus, there's a serene creekside just a short bushwalk away. Our area is home to a variety of wildlife, including friendly kookaburras, adorable wallabies and even the occasional wombat! It's definitely a haven for nature lovers! At Kookaburra, we ensure all our guests enjoy privacy and space. However, do bear in mind you're in a shared space and you might see other groups around. We operate on a self-sufficient model, so please remember to dispose of your rubbish responsibly and, of course, leave no trace in nature. Our farm family includes curious and friendly cows, free-roaming chickens and a delightful pig – they might even come say hello when you first pull in! Come join us at Kookaburra for a weekend getaway or an overnight stop. You're always welcome to drive in, pass the house and park in the back paddock. We're generally around if you need anything, but a simple wave is enough! Please note that if you plan to arrive after dark, do let us know in advance so we can provide any necessary arrangements. We allow fires (subject to Fire Danger Ratings), and you can even cut your own firewood! We love pets too, so bring them along, remembering to supervise them around the farm animals and wildlife. Remember – at Kookaburra, phone reception is limited (pretty much non-existent), so be sure to come prepared. And although a 2WD vehicle generally suffices, adverse weather may require a 4WD. Don't forget to bring pest repellent, watch out for those wombat holes and keep an eye out for tree stumps and snakes! We can't wait for you to experience the magic Kookaburra has in store! See you soon!

Scribbly Gum secluded bush camping

11 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents50 acres · Northangera, NSW
This property is in Northangera with the Mongarlowe River running along the boundary. It's covered in trees and provides a pristine environment amongst the "Scribbly Gums". It has flat areas with plenty of free timber for the designated fire pits. I have tried to create a haven for wildlife including Kangaroos, wombats, echidnas and platypus. I cherish the cleanliness of the river and surrounds and wish to be able to share this special environment with others who care to preserve all it offers. You can explore the property along the tracks, paddle, swim or fish in the river, enjoy the fauna, wildlife and birdlife. Located not far from Braidwood, a town steeped in history, with good shopping, coffee shops and great food. Sloping to flat land amongst the Scribbly Gum trees offering a number of sites and walks through the property. It provides both sun and shade. Access is good for vans of any size along a track through the bushland. Lovely swimming spots in the Mongalowe River, beautiful clear water, and several lovely bushwalks around the property. We offer four sites and the maximum stay is 7 nights.

Maddara.Organic.Farm.and.Art

9 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents120 acres · Yass River, NSW
Once a much larger property, we purchased our 120-acre (50-hectare) in 1984 as a means to live sustainably and raise a family. Living in our shed whilst we prepared the garden, put in watering infrastructure and built our house which we finally moved in when our daughter was 6 months old in 1990. Over the ensuing years we have continued to increase biodiversity on the property and set it up so we can live sustainably, harvesting our own water, electricity and food. If your lucky you could get a hamper of our product when there is sufficient in season. With the increased biodiversity you will find that in the mornings and evenings kangaroos and wallabies will visit with the occasional echidna, rabbit and hare; and to forget the large array of bird life - that may wake you early in the morning with the songs. This campsite is set on lovely grassy open areas interspersed with gum trees. The sunrise looks spectacular near the dam, when the trees give off a lovely glow. The main paddock has a Geodome, a shared space for relaxing in. With all that space you can park and set up camp anywhere in the paddock. There is access to drinking water, toilets, and a hot shower. Around the dome is a firepit, drinking water and a camp kitchen. The firepit features an Argentinian BBQ and a plate for cooking. The kitchen has plates, cups, cutlery, and other bits and pieces for you to use. We also allow for your pets to stay onsite, this also includes horses. If you want exclusive use of the paddocks - refer to Group Bush Retreat.

Wombat Hollow

3 sites · RVs, Tents100 acres · Budgong, NSW
100 acres of secluded paradise with a kilometer of free flowing pebbled creek. Bound on two sides by the craggy escarpments of the Budgong and Morton National Parks there is ample grassland to give a feeling of space yet an abundance of trees to wander through as you engage with the tame wildlife and magnificent birdlife. (I run 5 sites across two venues so if you send an enquiry - please specify the Property and the Campsite) Bring your mountain bike, fishing rod, swimmers, hiking boots, climbing gear, horse riding gear, or tennis racquet, and leave the kids in the play area while you sit by the creek and listen to the water tumbling through the rocks. If you are as intrigued by rare animals as we are, then this is the place for you. 63 Bird species, 24 mammals, 16 reptiles, and 12 amphibians have been sighted in the area (Clarke 2012) and this includes many rare and endangered species including the Brush-tailed rock wallaby, Giant burrowing frog, Gang-gang cockatoo, Glossy black-cockatoo, Koala, Little Lorikeet, Platypus and the Yellow-bellied glider. We only have three campsites at present, so you will be guaranteed peace, space and privacy. with a minimum of 400m between all sites. Please note, that your group must be self-contained, with their own camp toilet, however fresh drinking water is available. Access is into a valley on a well maintained unsealed road and there are some minor causeways making it unsuitable for busses. An ordinary sedan will do for Billabong and Dad's camp sites but you will need some power for towing and a 4x4 to tow out in any rain. Riverbend site is only suitable for 4x4's and off-road camp trailers. You are a 40 minute drive from the sea (try the Shoalhaven 100 beach challenge https://www.shoalhaven.com/100-beach-challenge/ ) and just 15km from the historical town of Kangaroo Valley with its myriad of water activities, golf, wine estates, and quaint shopping. ttps://visitkangaroovalley.com.au/see-and-do/ Our neighbor offers horse riding experiences that are absolutely amazing. River, stream, or creek camping near Goulburn with fishing guide

Overview

Goulburn’s legacy as Australia’s first inland city is on proud display at numerous historical sites. Must-visit spots include the Riversdale Homestead and the Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre, while a selfie with the Big Merino is a nod to the city’s wool-making heritage. Outdoors lovers have plenty of reasons to stick around, whether fishing along the Wollondilly River, playing a game of golf, or exploring the surrounding Tablelands, where activities range from wine tasting to rock climbing. Check into one of the caravan parks in town or enjoy bush camping in the nearby national parks.

Where to go

Northern Tablelands

North of Goulburn, the verdant Tablelands climb up into the southern Blue Mountains, and there are several national parks within day-trip distance. Swim and camp along the riverside in the Abercrombie River National Park, escape the crowds at backcountry campsites in Nattai National Park, or discover Wombeyan Caves.

Bungonia

East of Goulburn, the soaring canyons, rocky gorges, and dense bushlands of Bungonia National Park provide challenging terrain for explorers. Hike to scenic lookouts, venture into underground caves, or get your adrenaline fix canyoning, rock climbing, or abseiling. Campsites are located in the park and along Shoalhaven Creek.

Canberra Tablelands

A patchwork of lakes, farmlands, and tree-lined valleys stretch southwest of Goulburn, all the way to the Australian capital. Sample cool-climate wines in the Yass Valley, spot birds around George Lake and Bathurst Lake, or enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and camping in the forests of the Tallaganda National Park.

When to go

Goulburn has four seasons, but the weather rarely hits extremes, and outdoor activities are possible year-round with the right clothing. Summer (December through February) can get busy, so book campsites well in advance, especially for the surrounding national parks.

Know before you go

  • Goulburn has bus and train links to Sydney and Canberra, but having your own transport is recommended for exploring the national parks.
  • Goulburn has a small selection of shops where you can pick up camping gear and stock up on supplies.
  • A permit is required to camp within NSW’s national parks, and campsites must be booked in advance.

Nearby attractions

A popular sport and recreation destination, Windamere Dam is just several hours inland from Newcastle and is a great day trip for those camping near the Blue Mountains.
