Lakeside camping in Ventura guide

Overview

Ventura sits on the Pacific Ocean coast, which offers warm air and cool sea breezes year-round. Hikers can stay in primitive walk-in campsites at Emma Wood State Beach for surfing and dolphin sighting, or follow the Ventura River inland toward Lake Casitas for prime lake camping. Lake Casitas Recreation Area, or nearby Foster Park, have lakeside tent and RV camping options, some with dump stations, full hookups, and back-in concrete pads. Then, wake up and fish, hike, bike, or boat along the water. Families can visit Water Adventure, a water park inside Lake Casitas SRA that features a lazy river and splash pad. For campers who want to travel farther northeast, Castaic Lake’s Upper Lake offers swimming, sailing, motorboating, kayaking, and jet skiing. Anglers will also appreciate the bass, trout, and catfish in the lake waters. RV and self-contained tent campsites with picnic tables, restrooms, and firepits are also available at Castaic Lake State Recreation Area.
