Lakes are no exception, and California has some stunners. The crown jewel, of course, is Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada, an all-season destination with boating in the summer and skiing in the winter. Also in the Sierras is Mammoth Lakes, where many small lakes dot the Alpine landscape.Lake Shasta in Northern California and Big Bear Lake in Southern California also sit amid mountain environments. Alternatively, Wine Country is home to three lakes that offer vino lovers a break between wine tastings: Lake Sonoma, Lake Berryessa, and Clear Lake. Further south near Fresno, Bass Lake is a hidden gem near Yosemite National Park. All of these lakes feature campgrounds, RV parks, and cabins either on or near the water, with plenty more options in surrounding areas.

The DINER "Smoke on the Water" is open only Saturday and Sunday. Traveling West on 50 from Tahoe: make a right on HWY 49 traveling north. Follow the above instructions. Welcome to Finnon Lake Recreation Area! Our lovely lake to discover. The night skies above Finnon Lake will reveal stars unseen in California. Enjoy searching for bullfrogs, and watch the flock of Canadian Geese fly in right at sunset as the horizon blends into the watercolor sky. This private lake supports the fire protection efforts of the Mosquito Fire Protection District and the firefighters of this community. Community volunteers manage the lake for the residents and the Fire Station. The primary funding source for the Finnon Lake Restoration is the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, which was signed into law in 2004 with a mission to support “efforts that improve the environmental, economic and social well-being of the Sierra Nevada Region, its communities and the residents of California,” according to its Website. Finnon Lake is also home to a popular 18-hole disc golf course and Mosquito’s only restaurant, Smoke on the Water Diner, which is open on weekends only 530-622-1060. Be near the park, but feel that complete privacy. These sites are very spaced out from each other and are large. No need to cram together! Explore the mines and hang out on our Groveland, California ranch! We have 824 acres on a beautiful cattle ranch with two small ponds. On our property, you'll find frogs, turtles, oak trees, pine trees and stunning views of Yosemite. We have several campsites to choose from including RV camping, tent camping, and a glamping tent. Beautiful natural campsites in the Valley of the Moon (Ojai Valley). Our sites are within an eighth of a mile of walking, running, biking, and riding trails from Ojai to the beaches of Ventura. On many days you can experience Ojai’s famous pink moments. You can hike the trails above Ojai, boat, eat, or picnic at Lake Casitas. Travel to nearby Ventura to shop, fish the pier, or take a deep sea fishing charter or Island charter to Whale watch or fish around the Channel Islands. Please note the aerial view of the camping area recently placed by Hipcamp is NOT AT ALL REPRESENTATIVE of the current camping sites and shows a photo that is many years old when the site was merely land. That photo is without any of the existing amenities or improvements. The actual sites are all Larger than Federal Park and Statepark guidelines, with averages of 20'x30' for campsites and 20'x40' for a long RVCampsite. We have planted many young trees and continue to plant trees and native shrubs around and near the sites. We have picnic tables, table coverings, fire pits, and camping rugs/footprints. There is also an outdoor shower, a shower tent with hot water, and an upgraded porta-potty with a sink. Note: During times when high heat is predicted, we strongly recommend that our Hipcampers bring pop-up shade tents or canopies for their sites. The Hipcamp is adjacent to our working ranch, and any photos of old sheds, trucks, a wood lot, or other equipment are NOT on the Hipcamp, but you will drive past that property to get to the separate Hipcamp area. Wineries, Farmer's Markets, Craft Breweries, dispensaries, and more are within 10 to 15 minutes of our site. Our location allows moments when you may see Hawks, Owls, Geese, Swallows, Robins, Bluebirds, and more. We offer both tent and RV camping. The Majority of our Guests love it here: "Vivian and Dave were exceptional hosts! Easy to contact and find our way to their property. Also gave us a plethora of places to go and things to do in the Ojai area. The area was open and spacious, and many trees and upgrades were in the works to make future stays more user-friendly. Beautiful natural campsites in the Valley of the Moon (Ojai Valley). Our sites are within an eighth of a mile of walking, running, biking, and riding trails from Ojai to the beaches of Ventura. On many days you can experience Ojai’s famous pink moments. You can hike the trails above Ojai, boat, eat, or picnic at Lake Casitas. Travel to nearby Ventura to shop, fish the pier, or take a deep sea fishing charter or Island charter to Whale watch or fish around the Channel Islands. Please note the aerial view of the camping area recently placed by Hipcamp is NOT AT ALL REPRESENTATIVE of the current camping sites and shows a photo that is many years old when the site was merely land. That photo is without any of the existing amenities or improvements. The actual sites are all Larger than Federal Park and Statepark guidelines, with averages of 20'x30' for campsites and 20'x40' for a long RVCampsite. We have planted many young trees and continue to plant trees and native shrubs around and near the sites. We have picnic tables, table coverings, fire pits, and camping rugs/footprints. There is also an outdoor shower, a shower tent with hot water, and an upgraded porta-potty with a sink. Note: During times when high heat is predicted, we strongly recommend that our Hipcampers bring pop-up shade tents or canopies for their sites. The Hipcamp is adjacent to our working ranch, and any photos of old sheds, trucks, a wood lot, or other equipment are NOT on the Hipcamp, but you will drive past that property to get to the separate Hipcamp area. Wineries, Farmer's Markets, Craft Breweries, dispensaries, and more are within 10 to 15 minutes of our site. Our location allows moments when you may see Hawks, Owls, Geese, Swallows, Robins, Bluebirds, and more. We offer both tent and RV camping. We stayed at olancha over christmas weekend we arrived late however our spot was waiting for us when we arrived hook up were well marked and easily accessible. Camp ground was clean lake was clean and nacho was great at maintaining bathrooms and roads during the heavy rain. Views were simply amazing and nights so quiet

This place was huge, cozy, and so cool. There were vintage guitars, lots of rock and roll posters, a cool playboy pinball machine, and incredible views. Unfortunately we couldn’t get the machine to work after plugging it in. The king bed was very comfortable and they had a nice heater in the living room. It was a challenge to get up to the house because of the steep driveway. It was raining. The key is to keep going, don’t stop. We were in a truck so it was manageable. This place is 420 friendly so it did smell like it in the place which wasn’t a big deal. Neither of us smoke but we didn’t mind the subtle smell. The only issue we had was with the coffee maker—it leaked all over the shelf and didn’t dispense through the coffee pod.

We had the BEST TIME! For my birthday, we booked Sites 1 & 2. Both were a great size and had electricity hookup for phone chargers, picnic tables, and running water. We tent camped and the ground was very level for all tents. We went with 11 girls and we felt very safe, comfortable, and ready to camp! Ojai is a quick drive away and we went into town for a farmers market on Sunday! The hosts were SO kind. They were very accommodating & Dave even took us out to pet the goats! The animals were awesome!!! The property was gorgeous. It was the perfect getaway! THANK YOU TO THE HOSTS!

We had the BEST time! We booked both Campsite 1 and Campsite 2. Both were really great. Both had an electricity hookup for a phone charger, running water, and picnic tables. We tent camped and the property was very even, perfect for a throw up tent. Ojai is a quick drive (maybe 15 minutes) & we went to the downtown strip of Ojai for a farmers market on Sunday morning. We celebrated my birthday with 10 girlfriends. We felt safe, comfortable, and it was the perfect getaway. Everyone fit very comfortably and we had so much fun. The animals on the property are so sweet. The hosts are awesome, they even let us pet their goats!!! Thank you so much for giving us the best weekend trip ever! I highly recommend this spot.

We had an amazing time camping at Finnon Lake! We tent camped with our two dogs and couldn’t have asked for a better spot—our site was very close to the water, which made the whole stay super relaxing. Waking up to the lake just a few steps away was perfect. The campground was clean, peaceful, and easy to get around. Our dogs had plenty of space to enjoy without feeling crowded, and the whole area just felt really dog-friendly and laid back. The scenery was beautiful, and being so close to the water made it easy to fish, relax, or just enjoy the view. Overall, it was exactly the kind of quiet, nature-filled getaway we were hoping for. We’ll definitely be coming back!

This was mine and my husband’s first time camping at Lake Olancha and we will definitely be back! The host Nacho was very good at communicating and making us feel welcome and comfortable. We camped at tent site #2 and it had a great view of the lake and mountains along with a picnic table, fire pit and electrical stations on for sides of the tent for charging. It was practically snowing late at night but we were able to plug in our heater so our tent was nice and cozy when we were in there. It was so enjoyable in fact, we originally only booked 2 nights but ended up staying a 3rd night bc we didn’t want to leave lol there is only one public restroom but to our surprise we never had to wait to use it. The water for the shower was hot there was a heater and the toilet paper was always stocked. For the price you really cannot beat the experience and I would definitely recommend to stay here if you’re considering it!

4 nights at Finnon Lake Recreation Area
It's a nice place with beautiful views. The campsites are pretty close together, with many being both RV and car sites. It's not a recipe for a quiet environment, but that's really not expected in these type of campgrounds. I saw several families there, and everyone was having fun (responsibly) and a good time was had by all. The bathroom was clean, as were the campsites. Wildlife was nice in the way of ducks, geese, and very vocal (as always) blue jays. Plenty of woodpeckers as well. My only wildlife complaint might be they have a pretty serious issue with moles tearing up the sites, but it's nothing a fox or coyote couldn't fix.

We camped at tent site #2 which has a lake/Mountain View, picnic table, fire pit and two electric stations for charging on both sides of the tent. Even though it was borderline snowing late at night, we were able to use our heater so our tent was very warm and cozy the whole trip. So much so, we originally only booked two nights but ended up booking a 3rd night bc we didn’t want to leave lol there is only one shared restroom but surprisingly we never had an issue with having to wait to use it. The water for the shower was hot and the toilet paper was always stocked. This was a great experience and I would definitely recommend it if you’re considering staying here!

This is our second time visiting Walden farm. We were snug in our truck camper and our doggies in the back seat. If Emilia the pit belly pig invades your campsite you can leader away just by calling or give her a gentle bump on her rear-end.

Weekend Trip to The Ranch at Lake Sonoma
A beautiful spot to land just a short drive from the Bay Area. The views of the lake were mostly obstructed by low lying fog save for a few moments of sun during our stay. But all good...love the fog too. And during a holiday weekend in November, it was sparse with visitors. Just perfect. This site is one of the more private and larger, level sites. Clean porta potties. Few short hikes right from the site. And a short walk/drive to the marina. We decided not to kayak this time but it was so peaceful on the lake. Probably a rare moment. Not sure I would stay here in the prime camping season as the sites seem very close with little privacy and imagine the lake gets busy with boats and jet skis. But we'll surely be back again for late November through winter camping.
