Description

The Pacific isn’t the only aquatic attraction in the Santa Barbara area. Mere steps from the Santa Ynez River, Sage Hill Campground offers a quiet alternative to coastal camping. Just 30 minutes north of Santa Barbara, this flat campground affords fishermen prime pickings: carp, bluegill, and catfish make their home in these waters, while the occasional directionally challenged bass finds its way into the river from Cachuma Lake, about 7 miles west. Hikers and equestrians will find something to love at Sage Hill Campground, too: The Aliso Canyon Trail begins here and leads to the 18-mile Santa Cruz Trail. On hot summer days, be sure to snag one of the sites that sits beneath the area’s large oak trees.

We camped here with my entire 6th grade class one year! I remember spending hours catching frogs in the river - such a fun spot for kids! But, in the late spring when we went, it was hot and there were a lot of bugs so bring repellent!

Sage Hill offers a good/accessible space for larger group events -- more picnic tables and spit barbecues.
