Description
William B. Umstead State Park is not far from some of North Carolina’s major metropolitan areas, but it is worlds apart. The campground offers shady tent sites tucked into the peaceful hardwood forests, all amidst the parks three lakes and numerous trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. A sweet day would include renting a canoe from the boathouse and paddling around in style. Why not let the pressure of city life fade away for a while and sleep under the stars this season? You won’t regret it.

Not a great campground for rest. Super noisy. You hear jets overhead and the highway nearby. Not particularly pretty or unique, but a nice place to camp near the city. Rangers do the rounds at night with firewood.

Great park for camping, often not crowded. Easy 20min access into downtown Raleigh. However, right under flight path of RDU airport, so expect planes low overhead until 9am and after 6am.
