Set at the base of the mountains on a beautiful valley floor, located in wine country in the lower Hunter Valley, Cranky Rock gets its name from a 25 tonne sandstone rock that graces our home. The 120 acre working beef and horse farm is situated a scenic 2 hour drive North from Sydney or 1 hour East from Newcastle. Whether you chose to stay of one of our campsites or in our pioneer-style cottage, all visitor being awoken to the natural bush sounds of lyre birds and cooling their heels in the crystal creek at the bottom of the property.  On your way in or out, be sure to check out the boutique village of Wollombi which is just 10 minutes from Cranky Rock, where you'll enjoy wine tasting, fresh produce and quaint cafes. Other must-see's in the area include the Olney State Forest and the Wattagan National Park. The property is located just off a scenic drive, over a 2wd accessible creek crossing. It is peaceful and secluded. Campers can used shared kitchen and bathroom facilities located at the top of the camp area. Dogs are welcome, but as it's a working farm, we ask the remain on leash at all times.

Cranky Rock Cottage
Step Back in Time
Lindsay and Pam have created a unique cottage set among the fields and mountains near Wollumbi. Lindsay has used his particular knowledge of historic building techniques to create a space that takes you back to the mid nineteenth century, with pull cord electric lights and hewn logs throughout. One of the highlights for me was the abundant bird life. The native vegetation planted around the cottage brings past a host of scarlet browed finches, wrens and black cockatoos. Well worth slowing down with a cup of coffee on the veranda.

Good
This place was beautiful, it had toilets and individual paddocks with a beautiful little stream. Unfortunately the night i stayed there were 4 different groups and we were all placed next to each other, i got woken up in the early hours by a screaming child, i go to these places to get away from crowds and to me this was a big turn off when there were heaps of other spots where we could have all been separated. So unfortunately i didn't have the best stay due to this. Otherwise it was a nice spot.

Stayed a couple of nights. Host friendly and welcoming. Shower a good walk from site but we didn’t mind. Lovely scenery and close to wineries we wanted to visit.

Cranky Rock
We love Wollombi and have visited a few times. This camp is central to the town and the pub! Easy to find with the instructions provided (follow the directions given in the message, as the map link will send you the wrong way.) We loved that each gate had signage with what lot we were. The camp was very quiet when we arrived with lots of privacy between camps. Overall we enjoyed our stay, however we wish there was some photos of the amenities or better description so we knew what we had paid for. No area to wash hands after using the long drop toilets. We also brought own fire pit and logs, however we didn’t realise we weren’t allowed to collect the gum tree sticks on the ground from the felled trees right next to our camp.
