Great stay here for a couple of nights. Stars were great with the new moon, campsite was perfectly tucked away. If you have a lot of gear or a heavy cooler, be prepared to haul it in as the trail to the site is off and down the road from parking. Tons of animals roaming around the place. Firewood is available. Perfect stay and thanks again to the hosts!

Come 4 the stars stay 4 the cats
This place is such a gem. Tucked away from everything right on the river. My gf and myself were treated to clear night time sky views of stars and a roaring fire.
The most important thing though…the animals.
We had two of the cutest cow ‘friends’ who were eager to see what we were doing. Always greeting us in the morning.
Now I don’t know if you believe in the cat distribution system but we learned it’s real. We had both day shift and night shift companions. Both the sweetest companions and best campground guards you’ve ever met.
I would suggest this space to anyone looking for a quick getaway and a great time. Close to city life if you need a night away from the tent but perfect for just sitting at the river and watching things pass with a cat on your lap.
Just don’t book on a day we decide to come back, haha.

This was our first Hipcamp so we honestly didn’t know what to expect, but it exceeded our expectations! Britt was very responsive and provided clear instructions allowing us to find the property and site with no problems.
Parking is spacious and we were able to park 300 ft from our site. There is a well maintained path through the woods that leads to the private site.
The site itself fit our 4 person tent with no problems and being next to the river was amazing. The neighboring highland cow pasture was amazing and we loved watching them pass by.
Bathrooms were a short walk, and were clean and thoughtfully decorated (and equipped with all necessities). My husband really enjoyed the outdoor shower!
Firewood and charcoal was available to purchase.
This is a working farm so you can hear sheep and cows, as well as we got frequent visits from dogs and cats:).
We would def come back. You can tell there is much care and thoughtfulness to make the property welcoming.

Peaceful on the Pecatonica
I so enjoyed the couple nights I spent at my very peaceful, private spot along the Pecatonica River at Brittany’s place. If you’re an animal lover this place will make you smile for sure! Dogs, cats, a litter of kittens while I was there, sheep, chickens, cows, horses and a duck for good measure!
The site I had is right on the river’s edge surrounded by tall grasses and wild flowers with fantastic views of the gorgeous twilight and dark night sky. There’s no shade, however, which was fine as I happily left before the sun got too intense to explore nearby towns and nature during the day and appreciated settling back in here in the late afternoon/evening.
It’s not a full car camping site per se in that my car, like the bathrooms, were up on the main part of the property which is about a 5min walk. That proved not to be much of an issue as they were happy to help me transport my gear back and forth on a 4 wheeler… a fun little addition to the experience for this city girl!
It’s close to the tiny town and you can hear noise from cars flying down the country road not too far in the distance, so it’s not entirely remote but still kind of feels like it is.
Fantastic experience overall! Can’t wait to see how this place evolves if I’m lucky enough to return.

Island in the grass
The host is friendly, helpful and has welcoming dogs. Bathroom is nice and the outdoor heated shower is pleasant. The tent campsite is like an island in a meadow of tall grasses and wildflowers alongside a small slow moving river. You share the location with bunnies, toads, a plethora of songbirds and hummingbirds. It’s very quiet and the tall grass provides a lot of seclusion.
The campsite is a three minute hike from the road through a mowed grass path that can be wet with morning dew. It is an additional two minute walk to the bathroom, shower and parking area. As the site is in a meadow, there is no shade and mosquitos are prevalent. If you are planning an extended mid-summer stay, consider bringing a pop-up canopy for shade that also has mosquito netting. Fishing poles may be fun as the site is on the river.
