#7 The Walnut Grove - Remote
Great place to camp with great views. Friendly hosts supplied wood, firestarter, and eggs. They also provided a table and chairs, which we weren’t expecting. Unfortunately we didn’t have a chance to avail ourselves of their kayaks, but they were available for our use, and the hosts even offered us free transport to/from the boat launch.
We ended up staying in the main site near the barn (I think it’s labeled site #1) for convenience since we were the only guests there. The big grassy meadows can get hot in the sun, but there are good breezes up on the top of the hills, many trees around for shade (or for hanging an additional shade canopy like we did), and nice forested parts right nearby that you can walk through that are much cooler. The nearby porta-potty was very clean and convenient, and the water hose/sink was also not far. Our site was also near the barn porch, which is nice for watching the sunset or escaping the rain. The shed with the showers is a bit farther from where we were (5–10 min somewhat steep walk), but the water heater there provided good showers (not crazy hot, but the warm water kept coming consistently even throughout long showers), and there was one outlet where we could charge a phone.
Cleveland VA is located between about 45 minutes and 1.5 hours from a lot of the places we were interested in like the Great Channels trailhead, the Devil’s Bathtub, and Abingdon and Damascus. When planning your routes from the “center” of Cleveland, budget an extra

Really beautiful property and friendly animals (baby goats especially)!! Helpful hosts—the gravel road is tricky but the host drove it up for me and my 2WD made it up no problem.

#1 Weaver Creek RV/TT Site
Beauty on top of the mountain !
We were joyfully greeted by our hosts and escorted to our site on top of their gorgeous mountain ! Words and pictures don’t do it Justice ! Beautiful scenery! Cattle and donkeys in the near by fields. Shower house with hot water. And a clean cedar chip out house. We slept so well with only sounds of birds and critters ! We hiked the mountain top to see the old homestead and barns still standing . On the way down the next day the black sheep greeted us. It was a wonderful place to camp. We look forward to coming back!

Wonderful campsite
Absolutely wonderful place. The farm is very well kept and the owners are extremely nice. They provided all my firewood for the three days I was there and continuously checked on us. I stayed over Easter weekend and they even invited me to their Easter breakfast at their church.
The road to get up was a little tricky, but my Honda civic made it up with little issues and if you don’t feel comfortable driving up, they will take you and your stuff up in their car.

#8 Spring Peeper Serenade
This is one of the best campsites I've ever been too. We had the whole 160 acres to ourselves and it is very private. Daniel , the owner is great and his parents ,the hosts were amazing. They made sure we had wood and brought us bread and fresh eggs. I can't say enough and we are already making plans to return. The only negative is the road up the hill to the campsite but we made it. Thanks to Daniel and his parents.

#8 Spring Peeper Serenade
We ended up setting our campsite up at the gathering grounds next to the old house and it was nice and quiet. Short walk to the shower house, rustic but great showers.
Host were super welcoming and brought us wood for the fire each night
We met all of the animals and wandered around the property
