Upper primitive campsite 3
We stayed here over Thanksgiving weekend and really enjoyed our time. Entry: Apple Maps took us straight to the campgrounds without any issues. Just make sure your route goes south of Alpine, Texas (via TX 118) and then east on Terlingua Ranch Road. Tip: Avoid the route that goes south of Marathon (US Highway 385) if you're eager to get settled in. It allegedly has a long road that requires a high-clearance vehicle. Check-In: Check-in was quick and easy. The staff was friendly, helpful, and gave us all the info we needed to make the most of our stay. Stay: We stayed in the primitive upper loop, which was perfect for our setup. There was just-enough space for two vehicles and a tent, and the site came with a picnic table and a firepit. Just keep in mind that fire bans might be in effect depending on the county’s regulations. Very quiet and dark. Amenities: The cafe was cozy and served delicious food and drinks—just what we needed after a long day exploring Big Bend. It felt like an oasis in the middle of the desert. Facilities: The bathrooms and showers were clean and well-maintained, which was a nice touch for a camping area. Overall, this was a fantastic base camp for visiting Big Bend National and State Parks. The combination of great facilities, friendly staff, and beautiful surroundings made for a memorable trip. We’d absolutely recommend this spot.

Upper primitive campsite 3
I loved camping here it was my first time and my boyfriend first time too it was an awesome experience this campsite was close to a hike trail they have right there. Just be aware everything is very far the closet gas station was 30-40 minutes away. Other than that it was the perfect little trip we both enjoyed.

Lower primitive camping--Site 1
Tent camping was awesome and this place also has super cute cabins. The location was exactly what I wanted, remote, beautiful dark skies and we even heard a rock slide from the mountains! Javalinas were wandering around and the place was extremely clean and wonderful, friendly people. Excellent experience!

Lower primitive camping--Site 1
My rating is based on 1) access to resort is via 3 miles of dusty gravel road. 2) campsites are hardpacked gravel with no shade. 3) toilets were not cleaned our entire stay. The positives are 1) good food in on site restaurant 2) camp fees were very reasonable

Rough road to paradise
Pros: It is a beautiful setting surrounded by mountains and the night sky is amazing, with a clear view of the Milky Way. Having a restaurant, bathrooms, showers, laundry, and pool all within walking distance is a huge plus. The primitive camping is on the highest tier of three tiers, with RV's on the second tier, and cabins on the first. Voices carry, but for the most part, people are honoring the quiet hours. The very real Con: The three mile final stretch of road is a washboard dirt road. I usually like to stay a few days and explore the surrounding area, but I did not want to drive that road until I was ready to leave and decided not to extend my stay for the same reason. Off-road vehicles would probably be fine.
