Besides being out on the water, you can go hiking in the mountains that surround the lakes and explore the attractions in town, which include historic sites such as the Belknap Mill and several restaurants, including classic diners. Weirs Beach, around a 15-minute drive north of Laconia, is the most popular beach in the Lakes Region, offering multiple attractions along the beach’s boardwalk, including the Scenic Railroad, the Winnipesaukee Pier, and the Weirs Beach Drive-in Theater. Gunstock Mountain, a 15-minute drive east of Laconia, is an all-season destination that is home to one of the longest ziplines in the United States, as well as many miles of cross country and snowshoe trails. Castle in the Clouds, in the Ossipee Mountains of Moultonborough and Tuftonboro, a 45-minute drive from Laconia, encompasses over 5,000 conserved acres with trails, waterfalls, and excellent views of Lake Winnipesaukee and the surrounding mountains. The area is named for Lucknow, an Arts and Crafts-style mansion built in the mountains in 1914. Sabbaday Falls, in the White Mountain National Forest, and a stop along the scenic Kancamagus Highway, the three-story Sabbaday Falls drop 45 feet in total and are reached by an easy trail.
