Arapahoe Basin Ski Area
Ski resort
Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, known to locals as A-Basin, is renowned for its extended skiing season, often starting in October and lasting until June or even July, thanks to its high elevation and advanced snowmaking capabilities. The resort boasts an average snowfall of around 350 inches, providing excellent conditions for skiing and snowboarding. The terrain at A-Basin is diverse, offering something for everyone, from long groomed runs for beginners to challenging steeps and deeps for experts. The resort features several terrain parks with a variety of features for freestyle enthusiasts. While A-Basin does not have its own backcountry areas, it is known for The Beavers and The Steep Gullies, which offer advanced skiers and riders lift-served access to some of the most extreme terrain in the area. Cross country skiing is not available directly at A-Basin, but nearby areas cater to Nordic skiers. There is no night skiing at A-Basin, but the lift system includes a mix of high-speed quads and older, slower chairs, providing access to all levels of terrain. The views from the resort are spectacular, with panoramic vistas of the Continental Divide and surrounding mountains. A-Basin is considered a down-to-earth, family-friendly resort, with a welcoming atmosphere. While it may not have the extensive off-slope amenities of larger resorts, visitors can enjoy snowshoeing trails. There are no designated ice skating, snow tubing, snowmobiling, or sledding areas at A-Basin, but its focus remains on providing a pure mountain experience for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts.
