Sleepy Hollow Campground

22 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents5 acres · Grantsville, MD
This property and farm has been in our family for 3 generations. In 1964 my grandfather started the campground due to limited camping at New Germany. My father tells stories of it being filled with guests all summer long! Over the years there was few upgrades and now it's in need of a facelift. Landscaping, electric upgrades and bathhouse remodels were completed Spring 2021. We will continue to renovate in phases it's been a labor of love, but you can still see the beauty of this rural location and enjoy the peace and quiet. Hope you enjoy your stay. Lots of trees, shade and nature. It's located near New Germany State Park, 1.5 miles by car, less than a mile by foot. The state park has a lake and hiking trails. Garrett County has so much to offer, waterfalls, lakes, hiking, skiing, Amish gifts, history, fresh air, beautiful scenery. The campground was first started in 1964 by my grandparents, we are currently completing renovations in phases.

Abrams Creek Campground/Retreat

31 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents20 acres · Mt. Storm, WV
Abrams Creek is like camping in a nature preserve, rather than in a commercial campground.  On our campground, there are no generators, loud electronics, or other things that would distract from appreciating the sights and sounds of this pristine natural environment.   And this is always a great place to beat the heat! We have a mountain climate; the peak temperature most days in the summer is in the high 70's or very low 80's, and at night, temperatures go down to about 60.  You'll be breathing cool, clean, fresh mountain air all day long! Hot showers are included, and all sanitary facilities are *sterilized* between guests.  We have taken every measure to safeguard your health! We are located in the mountainous Potomac Highlands region of West Virginia. Our vision is an environmentally conscious, eco-friendly campground developed in harmony with nature. We are not only a business, but also serve as an anchor for others who want to live more simply and close to the earth. The concept of rural revitalization means reinventing rural life so that it is economically sound, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally satisfying. Ask any of our staff if you would like to learn more about this!

Ferns in the Forest

3 sites · Lodging, RVs32 acres · Farmington, PA
Learn more about this land: This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property in 2024. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to the beginning of October and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail.

Glamping on Timber Ridge

2 sites · Lodging12 acres · Seneca Rocks, WV
Our property was a small family farm for several generations. Our family purchased the property about 18 years ago. Since we are not farmers but love living here, the question became "What would be the best use for the land?" Living in a scenic area and already being in the vacation rental business on some other family property answered the question. We decided to share the beautiful view and seclusion of our area with others. Our goal was to keep the cost of building down so that we could pass on the savings to you so that you would not have to be rich to enjoy our lovely area. This inspired the idea of a glamping cabin. The cabin is actually a repurposed office building that was built about the time this property was purchased by our family. We moved it to the present location and completely remodelled it in 2018 and added the bathroom. For 4 years, guests enjoyed an off-the-grid experience. In 2023, when we began work on the glamping dome (stay tuned--coming soon!!), we decided to add electricity, running water, and a hot tub to the tiny house! We hope you enjoy the cabin (and, soon, the dome) and the stunning view from them as much as we enjoy sharing this beautiful spot with you! Note: The Charming Glamping Cabin is at a totally different property. That property also has a section that used to be farmed. Now a lot of it is forest. We purchased the property around 2000. This cabin was built approx. 10 years later. At that point, the cabin was a tiny economy cabin with a sofa bed. However, it seemed most folks preferred comfort over economy, so in 2020, we added a bump-out to the side of the cabin so there would be room for a queen bed. Guests have loved the improvement. (: Please read the individual site descriptions for more information on each of our listings.

The best camping near Blackwater Falls State Park guide

Overview

About

Elakala Falls and Lindy Point are among the headline acts at Blackwater Falls, but the real star of the show is the namesake waterfall. Hemmed in by dense forests of hemlock and red spruce, whose fallen needles give the river its famous amber tint, it’s an Insta-feed must. Outdoor adventurers don’t just come for the views, though. There are also 20 miles of hiking trails, 10 miles of cross-country ski trails, and a quarter-mile-long sled run, plus seasonal trout fishing and Pendleton Lake, where you can swim, paddle, and cruise. Campers have options, too, including fully furnished cabins, glamping sites, and a lodge.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. You can reserve one of the 65 tent and trailer campsites, along with the 39 cabins, online.
  2. Campsite reservations open 12 months in advance. There is a maximum stay of 14 days and a minimum 2-day for weekend bookings (Friday and Saturday).
  3. Campsites can book up as fast, especially on summer and holiday weekends. Book early to avoid disappointment.

When to go

Nature’s playground is open year-round at Blackwater Falls State Park. Come in spring to admire the wildflowers and see the waterfalls at their most powerful, or in fall when the hills are a rainbow of red, orange, and yellow foliage. Summer weekends draw crowds to the lake, while winter visitors can see the frozen falls and hit the slopes. The campground opens from late April through October, while primitive camping and other accommodations stay open year-round.

Know before you go

  • Boat, kayak, canoe, paddleboats, and stand-up paddleboards are available to rent at Pendleton Lake from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
