Overview

About

50,000 acres of land plus one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River plus Michigan’s raddest river and more waterfalls equals where you need to be! Heck, where we all need to be! Tahquamenon Falls State Park is a land of epic proportions. It’s namesake attraction alone resembles one of the legendary scene-scapes in the Odyssey. As you can imagine, this park is not short of ways to keep your eyes in awe and your brains stimulated. Trails on top of trails on top of trails are waiting for you. Also available is hunting, fishing, moose and wildlife viewing, and paddle sports. Never mind wondering if you’re gonna stay the night, we promise it will be worth it and with a wide variety of accommodation options, you'll feel comfortable staying however long you’d like.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Tahquamenon Falls State Park is during the summer months, from late May to early September, when the weather is warm and the park's full splendor is on display. Winter offers a stark, frozen beauty, but be prepared for cold temperatures and snow.

Know before you go

  • Ensure you have a Recreation Passport for park entry, as it's required for all visitors.
  • Check trail conditions and weather forecasts before your visit to stay safe.
  • Wear appropriate footwear for hiking, as trails can be rugged and uneven.
  • Remember to pack out all trash and leave no trace to preserve the park's natural beauty.
  • Accessibility may vary across different areas of the park, so plan accordingly.
