Located in a small valley, guests often report wildlife - deer, quail, pheasant, meadowlarks, and more. Quiet road, bordered by farm, no neighbors for over a mile. *EV charging available at each site. Fresh water from our own well, plenty of space for pets to roam. Hosted by father & son. David is a retired farmer and drummer, Lucas is a world-traveler and songwriter. If you hear the sound of an acoustic guitar wafting through the trees, come say hi!

Overview

About

If you've got a boat, we've found your second home at Wilson State Park. With a full-service marina and nearby bait and tackle shop, all you need is that fishing pole buried deep in storage. Once you've grilled up some of that striped bass, hang out in the (deceptively named) Hell Creek Area, and make sure to stop by the scenic byway, where cliff sides and rugged shorelines will surely call your name. Don't forget to grab your bike rack too, as 25 miles of trails on the Switchgrass Bike Trail provide the perfect opportunity to snap shots of the wildlife along the creeks and rivers. With an 8,000-acre hunting area nearby, we have a feeling you won't be short on food when you come here.

Notable campgrounds

  • Hell Creek Area: Offers a mix of primitive and utility campsites with breathtaking views and access to fishing spots.
  • Otoe Area: Features modern amenities and is ideal for families looking to enjoy water activities and hiking trails.
  • Lovegrass Group Camp Area: A reservable group campsite perfect for larger gatherings, complete with shelter and nearby trails.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early, especially for peak season reservations, which can fill up quickly.
  • Keep an eye on the park's website for updates on reservation openings and lottery drawings for seasonal sites.
  • Consider visiting during the off-season for more availability and a different park experience.
  • Explore nearby camping options if your preferred campground is full, as the park offers several areas with different amenities.

When to go

The best time to visit Wilson State Park KS is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural scenery is at its most vibrant. Summer offers full access to all park activities but can be quite hot. Winters are off-season with reduced fees, but some facilities may be closed.

Know before you go

  • Check the park alerts for any closures or special regulations before your visit.
  • Remember that campfires are permitted only in designated fire rings and must be attended at all times.
