With some of the darkest skies in the country for unparalleled stargazing, and some of the brightest days for hiking and wildlife viewing, it’s a 24/7 paradise. Named for the prehistoric black lava rock that previously coated Black Mesa Campground’s land, it’s now a popular site for those in Oklahoma as well as nearby Colorado and New Mexico. Millions of years of history point to one thing—Black Mesa Campground is basically the most epic place ever.
Great camping near river for tents, up the hill from the river for RVs. Not highly populated. The trail to the OK high point is approximately 15 minutes away by car. It does not originate in the Park.
