Secret Chalet - Unique experience
Host Scary, Disrespectful, & Unfair
This place & this host seemed really cool at first! But it all took a turn when I discovered young fleas in the cabin, and the host didn't believe me. His vibe changed drastically, enough so that it scared my dog. He continuously gaslit me about the existence of the fleas/fleas life cycle/animals in the cabin. He claimed there had been no animals in the cabin for months, yet acknowledged the mouse turds/occasional mice (normal for a cabin in the woods, not upset about the mice)-- mice are animals and they carry fleas. He did offer we stay in another of his cabins, but he also expressed concern that it was my dog who brought the fleas (he'd been fully checked a couple days prior at the vet, we were there for an hour or two- it wasn't him), so I was worried about being blamed if there were fleas in those, too. There's NO service, I no longer felt safe alone on the property with him, so I left. He's refused a refund. The fleas and his demeanor weren't the only issues, but there's a text limit. In short, he was extremely disrespectful about the fleas. He spoke down to me, spouted off false information about fleas, told me a strange story about his dog's butthole (???), and still claims the fleas were never there. They were, it was infested. I suggest AVOIDING this listing-- the host is chill if things go normally, but if there is a problem-- he changes, and becomes disrespectful. Not worth the risk with the lack of service. I was genuinely scared until I was out of there.

Secret Chalet - Unique experience
A Magical Experience
This place is absolutely amazing! I cannot recommend it enough. Came with my wife and daughters and we had the most magical time. The Secret Chalet is truly a marvel. So well crafted and the pictures really can't do it justice with all the asymmetrical details. You have to see it in person to really appreciate it. The grounds are pristine and add to the magic. Feels like a world away. To top it all off, Joseph is a gem and super helpful. He seemed to just be there when we needed him but not when we didn't. He's also just an artist in the way he set the place up. Every little detail added to the overall artistic vibe throughout. I cannot recommend this place enough. My girls have already made me promise that we're coming back ASAP.

Ravens Nest - Beautiful view!
Magical camps by the spring
Joseph has put his heart into this place. He welcomed us warmly, helping us haul gear and then offered us a little tour of the surroundings. There's a full lockable bathroom by the spring, fed with its water. He has three unique structures as well as a couple of tent sites nearby. There are subtle ground lights along the path that leads to the bathroom and down to the parking area. He and his family were very gracious and kind, and I'd definitely recommend this place to a friend.

Ravens Nest - Beautiful view!
Glamping at Raven’s Nest for MDW
Joseph’s place was the perfect place to jumpstart our summer, it was exactly as described and our dog Leo loved running around in the grass while we cooked over the fire. When we arrived Joseph gave us a tour and helped bring our stuff up & before we left for the weekend we were able to take a peek at the other cabins that he built himself! At Raven’s Nest there’s a two futon style beds, a fridge, a deck, microwave, running water in the sink, electricity, and basic cooking supplies in the space. We brought our own foil, seasoning, food, linens etc. there’s an AC available but it wasn’t charged at the time so Joseph left a fan for us and that was perfect for our needs (the weather was great over MDW!) There’s lots to do in the area outdoors but we stopped by the farmers market on Sunday & ate at some local spots including the Do Good Spirits distillery in Roscoe & Kaatstellers’s in Livingston Manor which is only 20 min away. There’s no cell service at the trailer, but there’s Wifi. Also appreciated that there were two flush toilets (and a shower) on site. All 3 cabins were booked while we were there, and from Raven’s Nest, you do have to walk through the other sites to get to the toilet, but it wasn’t a problem, everyone who goes “glamping” is friendly & we enjoyed our short stay! There’s lots of cute knick knacks and vintage items for sale in the cabins and you can buy firewood (and other things) in the commissary on site! (Bring cash, or you can PayPal) thanks so much!!!
