Situated slightly out of the way on the southern end of the park, the rustic campsites at Fort Ridgely Campground offer a little more privacy and peacefulness than the main campground.
Plus, they’re still pretty close to the creek and shady picnic area. Scenic, secluded, and still near the action? Talk about a camping win-win-win!
There is a DNR trout stream here with the most beautiful rainbow trout . Make sure you are fishing in open trout season and have your trout stamp on your fishing license . I was checked by the DNR while I was knees deep in mud along the banks of the creek :) There is a golf course here that is at risk of closing but thanks to friends of the park , it has remained open . It is operated on an honor system and no carts are allowed but it truly is a beautiful course . The Walk in camp
sites here are secluded that sit on top of a hill . Don't overpack as the incline is pretty steep ! The trails also have many inclines so if you are training for a future backpacking trip , a weekend here , hiking the trails would be beneficial .
