Nomadic camping
Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
The Norton Nook campsites are perfect for off-grid boondocking or pitching a tent. Small Sprinter-style vans or adventure motorcycles are welcome. We offer two campsites on 100 secluded acres with lots of privacy. Site 1: The Beaver Dam site is more open with a good breeze and a fantastic view of the active large Beaver Pond. This spot is only accessible with a Subaru, Jeep, Truck, or four-wheel drive Sprinter van. Site 2: The Woods site is just that, in the woods with lots of Pine and Aspen trees. Accessible with any vehicle. The property is located right off U-23, 7 Miles from Mackinaw City. Bring your bikes and ride from camp to Mackinaw City (7-8 miles) on the Northeastern Bike Trail. The Barbara Hoffius Nature Preserve is only a half-mile away and has great trails to the beach. These simple campsites are PACK IN PACK OUT. We don’t have any services. There is the Mackinaw Straits roadside park one mile west which has well water and a public bathroom. Table and chairs and a fire pit are provided. Feel free to scavenge for deadfall firewood. Please don’t cut any trees down for any reason. Also, check with the DNR for fire risk. Do not burn during high risk of fire. The location can't be beaten, if you want to visit the Mackinaw Area but need space from the crowds. It will not disappoint.

Site 1: Beaver Dam
Beautiful location wonderful host
Bike-packing along the North Central State trail from Gaylord to Mackinaw City & this location is the perfect peaceful oasis! Although there is no potable water or restrooms, just one mile away with a direct path from the trail is a rest area with vault toilets & a water pump. We absolutely loved our stay here. The views are beautiful & the place is so quiet & serene. We saw the beavers busy at work & an adorable turtle sunning himself in the field. Forest is beautiful & ground was perfect for our tent. Host was very responsive & hospitable. Went above & beyond for us. If you’re looking for a rustic spot with easy access from the trail the driveway literally crosses the path. So private! So lovely!

Relaxing
Beaver Dam is private, calm, and pretty. Chris was responsive when I had a little trouble finding the place. No trouble driving into the site, the road is navigable in two wheel drive. I hope to stay there again sometime.

Great spot!
GREAT site, perfect location! Just 15 minutes to the bridge and 2 minutes to a really nice state roadside park (with a beach). The site was exactly as described, a good amount of sun but also there is shade. We will be back!

Site 1: Beaver Dam
This was a wonderful secluded spot only 11 minutes from mackinaw city! We stayed at the Beaver site and had no trouble getting to it with our 4WD SUV. We came in late and left early next day so didn’t actually get to enjoy the site much, which is a shame because it was beautiful. It felt completely secluded, the view was great, and the provided seating area with netting was a plus. There was a fire ring and firewood, and the host was responsive to all our questions. Great spot on a great location assuming you’re a low maintenance camper!

Site 1: Beaver Dam
Great large secluded site close to everything. Probably 1/4 mile from the street down a mowed grass road. My two wheel drive truck had no issues getting to it even though it had rained quite a bit around the time we were there.
