This cabin is nestled on the banks of Elk Creek. The creek wraps around the entire property and is a Class 1 trout stream. The camp site is completely secluded and private. There is a tri-pod for cooking. The cabin comes equipped with 3 cots and a full futon. It sleeps up to 4 people. No linens or pillows are provided, so be sure to pack your sleeping bag. No running water or electricity as it is off grid. Site utilizes a composting toilet for sanitation purposes.The space The cabin is a simple one room log cabin with small loft area. Peaceful and well insulated. It features a great porch area with a great view of the site and the creek. A sitting area near the creek is perfect for cooking and visiting with your group. The creek is sandy and clear. Excellent for swimming! You must pack out what you pack in.
A rundown of the basics:
Accessibility: Access to the cabin is NON-MOTORIZED only. The cabin is accessible by foot or snowshoe. No motorized vehicles, of any kind, are allowed. The walk in is approximately 200-300 feet. It may be helpful to pull a sled or wagon (not provided) depending on the amount of gear you are bringing.
Accommodations: Sleeps up to 4 in the cabin but you may have tents. There is a full size mattress in the small loft area, a full size futon and 3 cots. Pillows and linens are not provided. All guests must be registered or will be asked to leave.
Bathrooms: Site utilizes a composting toilet for sanitation purposes, which is available year-round. No indoor plumbing or access to water.
Water: There is no running water or direct access to water at the cabin. Public water is available in the city of Eau Claire or the village of Elk Mound.
Cooking: Please use outdoor fire pit with tri-pod for all cooking. Cooking inside the cabin is only permitted during the winter months. Use extreme caution when cooking inside the cabin.
Electricity: There is solar power. A few lamps and a cell phone charging unit. Otherwise, no access to power.
Firewood: Dead and down wood can be collected from the surrounding forest for use in the outdoor fire ring.
Pets: No pets allowed within the cabin or on the premises.
Trash: There is no onsite dumpster for trash. You must pack out what you pack in.
Smoking: No smoking inside the cabin. If you do smoke outside, please discard butts appropriately.
Guest access: Parking will be at the designated area off County Road C.
The cabin is located approximately 200-300 feet south of the parking area. Access to the cabin is not far.
The cabin is near the Town of Union Conservancy walking and biking trails.
During the snow covered season, access to the cabin will be via snowshoes or a clearing will be made.
Be prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws at you. In the summer, that's heat, rain, bugs, etc. Even the occasional really cold summer night. In the winter, that's heavy snow, wind and extreme cold. Please review the weather reports before you come and plan accordingly.
Other things to note: Leave No Trace camping principles are strictly implied. You must pack out what you pack in.
The cabin is located in the middle of the forest. Although, the cabin is pretty tight, we do have the occasional mouse get in. Please let us know if you see signs of mice. The sooner we know about it, the sooner we can address it.
Noise: This cabin is located off a roadway and in a valley. You may hear an occasional vehicle but the site is extremely private.
Cell phone coverage is hit or miss at the cabin. Please plan accordingly.
